Do you keep your receipts?

Does anyone here keep their grocery receipts from a long time? I'm curious to know if anyone has seen obvious cases of inflation at the grocery store.

Pelosi is connected with Starkist. She owns it or some such thing. I don't buy starkist no matter how much on sale it is.

About 4 years ago, a can of tuna got smaller. The prices have gone up too. I think they used to be 6 ounce cans and now they are 5 ounce cans.

My cat, after several near-death situations has become very selective and will eat only a seafood mix canned cat food, the price of which just keeps climbing. It comes in 5.5oz cans which costs more than a 5oz can of tuna.

So, to save on her food expense I am mixing the cheaper tuna with the cat food on a one to one ratio, which still gives her the nutrition which she needs but I realize a small savings and every little bit helps. I usually wait for a sale and then buy them by the case.

I think milk was usually about three times the cost of gasoline. In 1970 gas was .36/gal and milk 1.15

Milk was 66 cents per half gallon in 1970. See census pdf link. Gas was 28 cents/gallon. Federal taxes and inflation have jacked up gasoline prices. Price controls on milk have distorted those prices.

No but I know how the prices are going up. Some things are going up faster than others. As it is I don’t shop without coupons on coupon doubling days, for the last five years or so.

Yeah, they are 2.09 where I shop. With specials and double coupons I could get them for about a buck apiece. Hasn’t happened in a long time.

I stocked up on rice over a years ago, they had coupons that when doubled made a certain size box of theirs free. Pretty well set with rice.

A silver dime is worth just shy of 3 bucks right now. roughly. That might get you around one pound of grapes I think. Or two hershey chocolate bars.

My earliest memory is of buying a one pint milk carton for four pennies at the school lunch room.

Grocery receipts - not exactly. But I see them in my Check Register as we use our Bank Debit/Credit Card and Food Prices have went through the dam roof. But that started when Dubya decided to turn our food -- Corn and Sugar -- into fuel. But 'under Barry' (and Under Him we are) it's increased exponentially.

But I DO keep all other 'Bills', like Utilities and Cable-Internet (I have Yearly Folders that go back years). And THOSE have fricken sky rocketed thanks to Barry. My Gas and Electric Bill is like playing Roulette or Lotto, I never know what numbers will pop up.
(and I have to have Cable for TV and Internet so I'm stuck with Comcast)

The only Bill I actually kind of, sort of, 'enjoy' paying is the County Sewer (aka: Public Works) bill. That's only $19.00+/- a month and used to be $16.00+/- a couple-three years ago, so that's not too bad.

Around here (central PA), Walmart is considerably cheaper for almost every grocery item than the others - Giant, Weis, etc.

Working at a gas station after WW-II, I was washing windows, checking oil, and pumping gas at 25 cents a gallon.

Go back a little further in time, to the period between the mexican american war and the spanish american war...I believe a man earned a dollar a week and paid 10bucks for a horse...and 40bucks for a saddle. Between your hat, boots, horse, spurs, saddle, and tack, you had more than a years wages tied up.
