Alternatives to donor based, ie, freepathon business model?

I've checked with an ad agency. We can probably raise the funds we need to operate FR at our current level and at the current market price for online advertising if we run a banner ad at the top of every page and at least one rectangular ad in the above the fold body of the page and a couple rectangular ads in the sidebar. If that doesn't generate enough revenue, we can also run pop ups or pop unders and we can even run audio and video ads if need be. But of course, if we go full bore commercial, we'd have to insure strict copyright compliance with very brief excerpting of all articles to avoid lawsuits. And the agency would require that we install a filter to censor out any bad or unacceptable words in our posts.

Or, of course, there's always the membership model. We could setup a members only system where paying members get full access and non-paying members get throttled back, etc.

I don't like either of the above models and think we'd soon lose a lot of our readers and participants. Of course that may happen anyway if we can't fund it and if we cannot get our equipment problem under control, or if my refusal to vote for or support an abortionist/homosexualist/statist who has plans to install ObamaCare, er, I mean RomneyCare into all 50 states runs everyone off.

The donation model has served us very well since 1997 when we first started using it. It's very clean, uncomplicated and we attract participants who perhaps can't afford membership dues but do want to join the discussion and join our rallies, protests, prayer sessions, etc. And the advertising model would probably bring in the revenue, but it comes with strings attached.

I'm sure there are other ways and ways to combine features of various models, sell books, cds, gear, etc, offer no ads for paid subscribers, etc, even ISP services, but all of these also complicate matters.

I'm an old dog and I like to avoid new tricks, new complications, additional overhead, additional accounting, additional rules and regulations, etc, wherever possible. I like to stick to simplicity and with what works.

Thank you all very much for your continuing participation and support.

Outlaw Woman, please STOP. By posting that crap, you’re turning into a nasty, bitter poster.

You have been had! Read the posting! FR is not a “Mormon-hating-Obama-loving forum” by any stretch! Furthermore, NO Member of Jim’s FReepathon has ever been for Romney. Not since ‘08 when he was a candidate. This is nothing new for any of us! None of us are voting for Romney. Think about it. Who wins no matter which pro-abortion, big government liar wins the election, provided Romney is the nominee?

Anyone can post anything on any site and claim anything. They can alter e-mail and FReep mail if they’re so inclined.

It was a low blow to post that crap to try to impune and smear any of us on Jim’s Team. I was surprised and sad to see you post that.

I’d have no problem with ads such as that.

Actually, I am praying for that. It would be a miracle.

"Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.

AMEN!

You made an accusation. A NASTY one. Prove it! YOU said. YOU need to prove you aren’t lying.

"Why would a conservative, activist site back a liberal?"

Because we want to get rid of an out-and-out communist who wants to sell our children into slavery. It isn't complicated.

You're looking at this election and only seeing two doors, when there are three. Jim's way is the third door. That was also the door the Framers chose.

The answer isn't to succumb to a less virulent strain of the same disease you're sworn to eliminate. The answer is to eliminate the disease in every form, no matter what it takes.

This is spelled out clearly in the Declaration of Independence. Read it sometime. You might just get a clue as to where Jim Rob is coming from.

So are you saying that the quote is indeed from ‘your team’? Because the poster only said someone ‘helping’. In any case it’s out there. Can’t help what is said by someone.

You’re more savvy about searching. Just run a search.

btw...I don’t lie dear.

OW smeared our team and I’m ripping mad. These people work themselves to death, including you, and she posts anonymous tripe. I believe it to be a lie and there WERE no emails, only someones fevered imagination

I concur. I know I've never written that I am voting for that abortionist liar, because I'm not. That much is not even a consideration. I have written replies to others that I understand their concern for SCOTUS, but that's their business, not mine, and I do not deal in e-mail.

Oops, you missed the opportunity to make that argument you called those who don't pay "free riders". Not the first one, but you jumped on the bandwagon showing your true colors as did others.

Conscience still bothering you, I see.

It's pretty clear per your earlier posts that you've never donated, and that you insist that JR provide a forum for you to dump on his most deeply held convictions, just because you feel entitled to do so.

And you want that concession extended to you, gratis, as well.

It's also apparent that you still haven't read Jim's Mission Statement, as I suggested. If you had, and if your reading comprehension is adequate to the task, you wouldn't still be talking like a liberal.

The bad thing about ads is they also come with a measure of lost control. As it is, we can bash liberals to our hearts content. Ads could change that.

All depends on who the advertisers are. If they're in accord with the stated aims and purposes of this website, I don't see why they'd try to water down the editorial content of the site.

Now, I don't know if one can cherry pick advertisers like that, but I don't see why you couldn't. As long as you're not contracted with some ad aggregator, you should certainly have a say in who advertises on your site.

Apparently she has no idea on the validity of what was said. She simply reposted trashy gossip and called it truth. Anyone want to take bets on where it came from?

Too many twits are jumping on Romney's bandwagon. I'm not certain that we'd be allowed the freedom that we now enjoy.

First of all, WE don’t know anyone who talks (posts) like that idiot poster who wrote that screed.

OW was had. “WOOT WOOT” A very immature, bitter weenie wrote that.

Produce the originals, if there is such a thing. You made the accusation, now PROVE it.

You know the drill, Outlaw Woman. That's not an unreasonable request, and is certainly mandated, given the target.
