Obama and Romney: Character Shows
The American Thinker ^ | 7-9-12 | Karin McQuillan

Posted on 07/09/2012 6:19:23 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Character is consistent. Voters say moral character is one of the most important things they look for in choosing the president. The character of a public figure can be hard to discern amidst a fog of self-advertising, hype, and the distorting effects of TV.

~snip~

An unusual personal story gives us insight into Mitt Romney. It is 1996. Mitt Romney is the head of Bain Capital in Boston. One of his employees comes to him, utterly distraught. His 14-year-old daughter snuck out of the house to go to a rave in New York and has been missing for three days. One of her teen friends said he gave her ecstasy and that he last saw her partying under a bridge.

Did Romney offer sympathy and hope? Write a check for a private detective? Wait for the government to solve it? No -- he took responsibility. He took action. He shut down the firm and brought all the employees to New York. For 48 hours, they scoured the streets, going everywhere, asking teenagers if they'd seen the missing girl. Romney called on business associates to send more people to help until they numbered 200. He printed 300,000 fliers and got Duane Reade, one of Bain's success stories, to put fliers in every shopper's bag in their 52 stores. Romney set up a hotline. A broken-off phone call was traced; the girl was discovered in the basement of a house in New Jersey and reunited with her family.

~snip~

Romney shows the missing girl's photo to a teenage girl on the street. She says to him, "No, I haven't seen her, but you're not the first person who came up and asked if I'd seen her. I wish my parents cared enough about me, to do something like this for me."

Go back to the religion forum where you belong and we are not allowed to comment.

(Ah...one who thinks he can control who posts where...usurping the host of this forum)

The spirit of Nauvoo censorship (of the Expositor) still resides in the allies of Mormons.

Jim, since Greyfoxx pinged you to his post to me, I will ping you to my response. Also, since Greyfoxx39 is also signed up at TBL, and can search by members, and their posts, if he was being honest about me, he would have seen that most of my posts are about kittens and identifying insects..sheesh. I have never defamed anyone on either site.

There was your first mistake. You didn't drink any of Darksheare's coffee, did you?

Go back to the religion forum where you belong and we are not allowed to comment.

Note, too the pure secular worldview reflected here...where religion is neatly compartmentalized...and all I suppose, are to check their faith at whatever "religion" boundaries are being imposed/enforced by this self-appointed gatekeeper...

Sorry, to disappoint you, EPU..."religion" isn't so readily hermetically sealed!

Your comments were agreeing with Altura, and complaining about FR here.

I sure don't come here to see a bunch of cut and paste screeds, or "historical facts about the Prophets" of blah, blah, blah.

It's irritating to have to scroll down through ad nauseum same old, same old postings from the same people. It's like Graffiti, IMHO, It detracts from the threads. I find it visually offensive.

I find YOUR comments "visually offensive".

I made it plain at TBL that I signed up ONLY to claim my name, and have not posted since but with the vitriol that is posted about JR and FR there daily, I find it dishonorable for TBL posters to be over here preaching to FReepers about anything.

"Be offended" all you like. Just expect that when you do post here bitching about FReepers, you will get called on it.

Why is it we always come down to a crappy choice between two screwballs? Been like this since ‘88. Romney will give us most of the Obama plan, with the GOPe brand burned into the hide.

It is the Mitt haters who predict that Romney will pursue an ideological agenda if elected President.

Rather it's the melodramatic little nancys who claim that mitt's gay, anti-gun agenda isn't ideological. Some of these rump-rangers are actually so Stalinist as to make lists and post them on forums where their fellow mittbot losers hang out.

At this point I would hate to see either Scott Walker, or St. Peter, nominated. The harpies on FR would rip them apart!

That is why we got stuck with Romney. But, hopefully, many have learned the lesson that we don't need a perfect Presidential nominee just one that is conservative.

But can you say that we would for sure be looking more likely to win the election in November if one of them was our candidate now?

"For sure"????

How does anybody figure that?

I do know this: I could look folks in the eye and tell them why I was voting FOR any of those three men. I cannot think of a single reason to vote FOR Romney.

....all the time congratulating themselves on being "Oh, so civil and tolerant, not like TOS" and shutting down threads to avoid discussion that doesn't suit.

Let 'em have their fun, but call them out when they try to show their superiority on FR.

I actually don’t know what TOS is but I suspect it doesn’t mean Star Trek “The Old Series”.

I don't really understand the anti religion threads here - and islam isn't a religion BTW; It's a form of fascism so it's fair game.

I don't hold anything against Mormons or mitt for being one. As a matter of fact I was going to say something in defense of mitt for making the effort on behalf of the young girl. Maybe I still will. It would be the second time I defended something mitt did on FR. But something about Rogue Yam's comments makes me want to point and laugh - they're like a mini-train wreck at a petting zoo - I get distracted.

Thanks, altura. I’m making a list and checking it twice, just like Santa, of the screen names of all the people whose hatred of Romney is clouding their vision. Obviously, YOU are not on that list. For that I am ever grateful.

Please add me to your list.

I'm Catholic, and I remember the BS about the Pope running the country if JFK became President.

Now the Mormon bishops will be running the country if Romney becomes President.

I despise Romney, but at least he's not a Moslem Communist foreign agent.

So, seriously, what is the alternative?

There has never been a successful third party run for the presidency. Sitting this one out helps Obama.

Unfortunately Romney was organized and well funded. While we argued over who was the most conservative, he rallied all the R’s who tend towards the mushie middle, beating the conservative-flavors-of-the-month one by one. He had his act together, we did not.

So we are left with the choice between a Marxist and a Statist. I, too, would love a viable third option, but there isn’t one. This is an election about putting the one into office who will do the least damage. With a conservative congress we can keep Romney in check. Obummer has shown that he is willing to rule by fiat and has the support of the lame stream media to help him get away with it.
