RUSH: To the audio sound bites! This morning on CBS This Morning, I have a portion here of National Correspondent Dean Reynolds' report on a panel of undecided Ohio voters who watched last night's debate and what they got from it.
Now, you can't see it, obviously. This is radio. But Norah O'Donnell's face in this sound bite is priceless. These people cannot believe what they are hearing. What we have here is an undecided Ohio voter on this panel, Norah O'Donnell and the cohost Charlie Rose. And they start off here with Dean Reynolds, who is a CBS correspondent in Ohio.
REYNOLDS: When it was all over, they were asked who won. The president got two votes. Governor Romney got six. All had made up their minds, at least for now.
Was this the deciding factor?
MAN: I mean, something can change tomorrow that --
REYNOLDS: After all, they still have two weeks to really truly decide. Dean Reynolds, Steubenville, Ohio.
O'DONNELL: Well, look there, guys. It looks like Romney won in Dean Reynolds' focus group.
ROSE: And this was from Ohio! Steubenville, Ohio! (pause) Interesting.
RUSH: They were shocked. You shoulda seen their faces. They could not believe it. And Dean Reynolds says, "Well, there's still time, still time for them to make up their minds! There's still time for them to really, truly change their minds." So six out of eight. The Luntz focus group was much the same. There were basically 27 people there, and 25 of them thought that Obama won the debate. But they're all voting for Romney.
Do you know why? Because foreign policy doesn't matter to 'em. They all agreed with Romney's point that foreign policy's wonderful but it's worthless without a strong America at home. A strong American economy is what enables foreign policy and a great defense posture. We don't have a strong economy at home, and all those people in the Luntz group in Ft. Lauderdale on debate points, it was Obama hands down.
It was Obama won, but it didn't matter.
That's why I say the substance of this debate, which is foreign policy, was the least important of all three of these debates. There was a CNN focus group after the debate. The CNN focus group was identical. Well, it was close to identical to the Luntz group. The one thing noteworthy about the CNN focus group was that they were unhappy when Romney pivoted back to foreign policy from a discussion of the economy.
They wanted to hear more on the economy. The CNN focus group also thought Romney won this thing. Not won it, but was better of the two. That's really the point. Obama won the debate but that didn't matter. Romney was far more preferable as a president to all of these focus groups. And the media? Richard Cohen here in the Washington Post is very grumpy.
"Both candidates lied. Obama might have been the more egregious of the two." USA Today, Melanie Eversley: "Horses, Bayonets and Boredom Characterize Debate," and the headline here is just the beginning of a less-than-joyous review by the media. This was not the knockout that they were hoping for. Let me tell you something: The world media was hoping for blood in the water -- Romney blood in the water -- and they didn't get it.
They are depressed today.
They can't say the Mittmentum was reversed, not legitimately.
They're not even trying to. From The Politico, Glenn Thrush. I mean, these guys are part of the Obama reelection campaign organization, and the headline of The Politico piece by Glenn Thrush here: "Mitt Romney: I Come in Peace." On page two is it printed out: "Romney was at his most effective when calmly articulating his economic case and calling out the president for failing to articulate a detailed vision for his second term."
Romney "showed an easy mastery" of foreign policy details.
That's what I figured the agenda was. You almost could say it's rope-a-dope, but what Romney did last night made me think of something. Do you remember back during one of the debates with Bush in 2000? After one of the debates with Bush or a foreign policy appearance, they had to call Condoleezza Rice out to assure everybody that George W. Bush knew where India was, that he knew what the subcontinent was. Do you remember that? I do. I was thinking about it last night.
I remember Condi Rice coming out and saying, "Of course the governor is acutely aware of the problems of the subcontinent!" The "subcontinent" is India, for all intents and purposes. It was a question about whether Bush knew his geography. Romney last night was showing everybody that he knows his stuff, that he is profoundly informed, and that he is highly intelligent. Remember all the criticisms of Bush and the Republicans that they're stupid, don't know anything.
Romney just blew all of those criticisms that still persist out of the water, I thought.
I thought that was the secret to the strategy.

Wow. Is it me, or does O’Donnell’s expression there make her look a little bit like DWS?
So, after the election will she have to go back ‘fluffing’ on Porno Sets?
It’s very simple - Mitt has a plan, and an intelligent approach. Hussein, if he has a plan, it is just four more years of his marxist crap. We can’t afford four more years!
Democrats pretty much count on the Republicans picking someone who knows foreign policy but clueless on the economy (ie McCain, HW Bush) or someone who understands the economy but perceived to be clueless on foreign policy (ie, W Bush, Palin). Romney is not going to invent new words or botch up old ones. He’s not going to make it easy for them to discredit him as some dumb bumpkin.
She looks like she has a bad tummy ache.
Obama hasn’t yet detailed a vision for his FIRST TERM!! It was like so: run out onstage to applause and women fainting, raising his arms messiah style, hollering “hopey-changey! hopey-changey!!”, receiving adoration, then running quickly offstate. No vetting from much of anywhere, then more accolades, appearing in front of Greek columns, then on Immaculation Day, flubbing his oath of office, getting a re-do, all washed by the tears of Oprah, who, incidentally, hasn’t been a fixture in the White House after all. (Michelle, evidently, very hypocritically does not like fat people.)
It must be a real buzz-kill for Norah and Charlie to gather a group of undecideds in an important key state so they can swing it to Rhobama, be convinced their child prodigy has won all the marbles, the audience somewhat agrees with them, and then admits they’ve come down with ‘stage three’ Mittmentum.
OMG, it’s contagious...
Norah and Charlie face each other with jaws on the floor speechless.
Alas, there will be no joy in Mudville this day.
Allow me the petty satisfaction of a low blow, by saying that if Moochelle doesn’t like fat people, she must really hate herself with that wide load she hauls around.
Heads up!! He just released it this morning:
“Hussein, if he has a plan,”
What? You didn’t hear that BO appeared at his first rally this morning with a 20-page booklet containing his until-now-secret plan? The ink was still wet on it, but no one at the rally could read, so it didn’t really matter.
3 3/4 years LATE and 16 TRILLION DOLLARS SHORT!
Romney should have stood up and bitch slapped Barack when he started being a wise ass about aircraft carriers and submarines.
The funny part was Barry was making no sense(, or point!) when babbling on about it.
Maybe it is just me, but after four years of this punk and 3 debates with Romney, I just cannot see this “I ain’t made up my mind crap.” Sorry, I just don’t buy it. Seems more like, hey talk to me and make me famous for 30 seconds. Mom, mom, look I am on TV! If you still need something in the last 2 weeks to get your mind made up, maybe they should just stay home. They will get in the booth and flip a coin in the end. Sorry, they just need to get an education and find out what has happened to this nation in the past four years. Either you are FOR socialism or AGAINST it. Comes down to that in the end.
With her looks it would have the opposite effect.
And that my friend spells "Obamaesia"
At the end of Morning Joe, Mika had a little 6-7 yr. old girl up there nd asked her who she was going to vote for and the little girl said “ROMNEY” and the Leftist Audience BOO-ed a little girl!! EVen stupid Joe said “REALLY, you’re BOO-ing a little girl”? OMG!
Has Oprah endorsed Romney/Ryan yet?
Yeah, yeah, I get it -- he went to Yale.
Thanks for all the kind words for conservatives living west of the Nyacks. Give my regards to the scholars down at the Fulton Fish Market.
Too bad we couldn't all get into Johns Hopkins or Middlebury, what eh? Tennis, anyone?
Well, not so much around the eyes and cheekbones ..... but the mouth, and the jawline, hmmm, yes, I see ..... yes, yes, I see what you mean!
No, it absolutely is not just you! Call the ****ing question! I'm early-voting tomorrow, I've had enough of this.
I live in Texas, so what we need to have happen here is for Romney to carry the state by about 0.0024%, and all the overage going to the third-party Conservative candidate -- a Mitt-Minder of what's going to happen if he doesn't do the right thing on chain immigration and "amnesty" plans that will put 70/30-Democrat bloc-voting Mexicans in Texican polling booths.
It isn't the "Hispanic" thing -- Central Americans and South Americans split their votes and give Republicans and conservatives a shot. It's the damn Mexicans and their "nosotros militantes trabajadores vayamos con lo PRI, vayamos con Pedro!!" b.s. .... saw it 30 years ago, and the social scientists warn us that these guys bloc-vote habitually, generation after generation.
That's what "Landslide Lyndon" Johnson knew back in 1953 when he fought President Eisenhower on repatriation of the wartime braceros -- he wanted them in the voting booth! And as soon as he became President, he walked through the Immigration Dynamite Bill of 1965 that has been the source of a ton of social disruption ever since.
He knew that if he could get 100 Mexicans in, he could get 100,000 and then 1,000,000 and then 10,000,000, and guarantee a Democratic lock on the White House for 200 years, with Texas and California locked-up Democrat.
I think you’re on solid ground there.
Unfortunately, that’s their emphasis, and it’s not working.
You nailed it!
I almost didn’t recognize Nora. Probably hadn’t seen her since the glory days of Monica when she was, IMO, quite beautiful. Granted, 16 years is 16 years, but that is not a beautiful woman. Not ugly like DSW, but no longer a beauty. Maybe the inside and outside have become one.
Hope is not an action plan, and those who used to have jobs have had enough 'change'.
So far, Oprah has been strangely, and uncharacteristically QUIET!! - Of course, color is the only thing to Oprah; but, I suppose even Oprah doesn’t like being used and “skunked”. - In 2008, a lot of American women lived by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of Oprah; now, it’s “who’s Oprah?” and Hussein and Michelle have moved on.
The one on the left is a drinker. You can see it in her face.
Thanks for the comeback.
Mayhap she’ll endorse Romney Real Soon Now?
