The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.
Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.
The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.
The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.
Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.
It wouldn’t be inconceivable that hundreds of weapon carrying men and women could assemble at the State House of New Hampshire in Concord. It would not take much.
I can only assume that you are a complete idiot.
Well... You certainly swayed me with that argument. /sarc
Suggest you f*ck off until you realize the NRA is doing the right thing here.
I guess we’ll find out Friday.
>> “Why say anything?” <<

The NRA is responsible for every gun control bill that has passed congress in my lifetime. I don’t expect them to pass up this golden opportunity to screw us again; do you?
Every funeral, every flower, every tear shed will be televised if possible, until the last body is buried, the last pat of a shovel made over a too small grave.
There is no denying the horror or sadness of such an event, as a parent, grand parent, and great grandparent who has had a hand in the raising of all three of those generations, I fully understand the pain of little smiles which will not be under the Christmas tree this year, a pain which will never completely go away.
However, this year millions of other children will smile beneath their trees, or celebrate the holidays in other ways, and in their parent's closet, den, gun safe, car trunk, or other undisclosed location--or perhaps even over the fireplace or nest to the door will hang the very sort of firearms that those who would capitalize on the bloodshed for political purposes would ban. They may even be under that tree, wrapped in brightly colored paper and tied off with a bow.
There are tens of millions of people, if not a hundred million who own firearms in this nation, who got up and ate breakfast, took their kids to school, went to work and harmed no one.
There were still others who used those firearms to defend themselves or others from lethal threats, be those threats human or animal.
That those who appear in a moment of grief pushing legislation which has been rejected time and again in less grievous times appear at the sound of weeping reeks of the rank opportunism of those who could not get their way in any moment of clarity or sanity.
Instead, it is the very legislation they crafted, which bars those who guard our children from having the means to defend themselves and those under their care.
The same people who have thus imperiled the safety and well being of the most precious members of our society--and those entrusted with their care--now tell us all we need to further tilt the playing field in favor of the random maniac, instead of grant the teachers and supervisors in the schools the choice to arm themselves to protect those children.
I recall seeing pickups at our local High Schools, with rifle racks full in the back window of the cab, deer rifles, semi-autos, and shotguns, and no one was shot--ever. It was unthinkable that anyone would even make the attempt.
While there are sick people out there who will find a way to arm themselves, ensuring that those who would defend against them are without the means to do so has been and remains a policy which only guarantees slaughter instead of prevents it.
Further infringing on the ability of the overwhelming majority to defend their person, home, children, and community against those who would wreak evil among us is an idea which is evil in itself.

Lost Sarc tag?
If the NRA had any intention of “doing the right thing,” Larry Pratt would be at the helm, using the funds to uphold our rights, rather than the popinjays that are running that NAZI U-Boat now.
The Mayans had the ‘new era’ thing down to the day I guess.
Were that truly the case, America would have been completely disarmed by 1980, a gun free zone from coast to coast except for cops and criminals. How likely is it that Kansas would have shall issue CCW today without the NRA?
Elected officials could care less about what absolutists think, because most Americans don't either. The NRA can't afford to operate in fantasyland because doing so will only guarantee further erosion of RKBA.
Perfect? Absolutely not, but claiming they're "on the side of the government" is hardly productive. And what they might have done prior to 1970 is irrelevant, as it was a much different organization.

Correct ... not only should NRA speak on this matter, they should be utterly uncompromising on it. In fact, they should go on the offensive ... propose actually repealing any of several useless gun laws. Start with the 1990 "Gun-Free School Zones Act" (18 U.S.C. § 922(q)) ... then propose allowing and encouraging 'properly permitted' (CCW holders) teachers, administrators, or volunteers to arm themselves while on school property.
Put the gun-banning leftist bastards on the defensive for a change ...
Every blog I have commented on I have hit the grabbers hard, reminding everyone there that the staff at schools are denied by law the choice to carry a weapon which might give them a chance to stop the random maniac. In CT we saw what does not work.
I also remind them that punishing the tens of millions who did no wrong, who would have gladly put themselves in harm's way to save even one of these lives is patently wrong, especially when the very rules they made prevented that.
Maniacs and criminals don't go by the rules. We need to make sure the rules don't favor their rampages.
Wanna go over all the stuff the NRA has done right? How about all of the stuff Alan Gottlieb at SAF has done? How about CATO and Alan Gura/Robert Levy?
Maybe you would have preferred that the NRA join in the blood dance while the bodies were still cooling, I'm ok with them waiting and formulating a better response.
If they don't, don't worry... I'll be joining in with the lynch mob.
Bank on it.
Are you really too dense to see that the NRA is ready to join the ‘blood dance’ in a big way?
The NRA has been responsible for every major reduction in our gun rights in the last 70 years or so. They’re playing both ends straight into their ever expanding bank accounts. They get a bill passed, then collect big time from the fools to ‘fight’ it in the courts.
All GOA has to do is convince 4 million gun owners they have the superior approach, instead of spending half their time bitching about the NRA.
Precisely. But let's not depend on any organization to do this for us. The >Left succeeds by astroturfing the herd and making it look like they are in the majority. Seek out comment sections on newspaper opinion pieces and post just what you did.
Talking points: The staff were disarmed by one of these "reasonable" gun control laws. They were prevented from being able to respond. By Law, they were helpless, not even given the choice to be able to defend themselves or the kids.
Almost all mass murders in this country have been carried out where the victims were required by law or policy to be helpless.
In Israel, the response to the massacre of school children was to arm the staff--and they have not had such a massacre since.
Here, the response was to bar the presence of firearms and the slaughter continues. Which works?
We had an "assault weapons ban", and it made little difference except inconvenience a lot of gun owners and place them in peril of unwittingly violating the law. It didn't work, more of the same won't either.
You have a serious case of rectal-cranial inversion. I suggest you remedy that before you start calling anyone else names.
I sent this to the NRA on Monday:
Good morning ladies and gentlemen, I am one of your ILA volunteers here in Pennsylvania. I am also retired from the marketing communications field and I do stay current on a variety of issues both national and international.
Aside from the latest tragedy in Connecticut and the predictable meme we will hear from the gun-grabbers and media, one of the subtle messages that the left has successfully implanted in the narrative is that guns are used primarily for hunting and target practice. The latest carrier of this message is Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia.
The elephant in the room that no one, including the NRA, has had the courage to publically vocalize is that the Second Amendment isnt about deer hunting. Its about a free people having the tools that it needs not only for individual self-defense in the home or elsewhere, but to protect itself against a tyrannical government.
I submit that what you will see, and are seeing now, is a concerted global effort to disarm the American people. Our enemies, including China and Iran, are already calling on the liberal Marxists in our government to effect a national disarmament.
As a local spokesperson for the NRA, I would like to see the NRA get in front of this issue and provide people in the field like myself with an intelligent, coherent message that we can take to our Congressional representatives, and let them know that we will not stand by peacefully and let the federal government destroy our 2nd Amendment rights.
Approval of Congress and politicians in general is at an all-time low. We have a struggling economy with a lot of people out of work. Our nation as a whole is virtually spiritually bankrupt, as evidenced by the leaders we have chosen.
If the NRA is going to be relevant in the days to come, I suggest you begin to get a coherent plan together to change the dangerous discourse that is flooding the media and beginning to turn public opinion against gun owners.
3 round burst.
Tight group.
Center mass.
.
Good shootin’
Well, that won’t happen because I’ll never be that stupid or that wrong.
Suggest you take your own advise while you are behind.
Amen.
