I believe Va is NOT considered a ‘Stand Your Ground state’ but maybe it depends on definitions.

Yes, I think you are right. I don't know where Guns and Ammo got their info. I am a member of the Virginia Citizens Defense League and it is my understanding from them that they are working on a bill to have provisions for Stand Your Ground (Castle Doctrine, too) that is satisfactory to them.

I’m not sure I trust this listing. Arkansas is listed as worse than Missouri, yet Arkansans do NOT have to get a sheriff’s permission to buy a handgun as you do in MO.

Good Old Florida, at number 12. We have over a million Concealed Carry Permits issued at this time. No restrictions on Evil Black Rifles. The only problem is finding a place to shoot.

Indiana is a very nice state. I live in NE Illinois (not in Chicago or Cook County, but I work there), and if I were younger (I’m 62) I’d move to Indiana and accept the longer commute to work.

The ONLY reason I am in NE Illinois is because of my job.
In 3 years, though, we’ll be out of here and back in Louisiana.

In Arizona, as far as I know, one is not required to volunteer the information to law enforcement that one is carrying concealed. This was the case when I got my CCW permit quite a few years ago, but might have changed since then.

If asked by a police officer in the course of an official interaction, though, I would answer truthfully.

The criteria used to evaluate the States as far as friendly to gun ownership are absurd.

I simply do not see their correlation.

I agree. Oklahoma at #30 is outrageous.

Thank you for the very interesting information.

One criteria/element I would like to single out as arbitrary and probably wholly fictitious is “the percentage of gun owners” in each state.

Why would a gun owner or non-gun owner for that matter, freely volunteer their weapon status in any manner?
Inch, meet mile.

It has, can, and will certainly in the future - be used against them.

Assume 99% of the law abiding citizenry is armed with multiple weapons.
What is our elected government and their appointed minions going to do?
(Or is the better question - What will an unelected UN or NGO do?)
Initiate searches in all of our homes and properties without first obtaining a court ordered warrant based on probable crimes?

Yep, OK is even ahead of Texas.

I think he is focused on Concealed Carry and Open Carry and handguns.

But if you look at the states who are the most free of government interference in their lives, this list makes no sense.

I spent 7 years in OK and loved it. Under the right circumstance would move back in a heartbeat. But Texas is home for my family. One of my ancestors was born in Texas during The Republic. More went GTT from AL during Reconstruction because they were burned out there for resisting the Carpet Bagger occupation. That left and indellible mark for 125 years. Until the 1970’s there was really no Republican Party in Texas. Now the GOP controls it, because Texas is not leftist.

Isn’t there a problem with Vermont?

There is no permit required for concealed or open carry for residents, but this translates into the fact that a Vermont resident, who concealed carries, cannot do so in any other state since he does not possess a permit. No other state has reciprocity with Vermont.

"For everybody who loves Repbulican Gov. Chris Christie, he has not even mentioned relaxing any of New Jersey’s gun laws."

He can't. The 'rats have the state Assembly and Senate. The only thing he can possibly do, which is unique among the big blue states right now, is (maybe) stop them from getting even worse. The 'rats don't have enough votes to override a veto.

Yeah, PA is a very good gun state which you would not realize since Philly is in it.

I did have a few objections to the ratings. NV for example has an unpleasant CCW course and lousy reciprocity. AL doesn’t even have non discretionary CCW, but they gave it a pass anyway (with some rationalization).

You guys ever watch the show ‘Alaska State Troopers’? I see it once in a while when I can’t sleep...its hilarious that just about everyone that gets pulled over by the cops has multiple weapons on them and/or in their vehicle...

The other nite in particular a guy was drunk (not over the limit though), riding his ATV down a highway where its not allowed and the cops pull him over - ‘you got any weapons on you’ and the guys pulls out an enormous loaded 45 magnum from his pocket...the cop eventually lets him go, with his weapon and ammo, no ticket and just tells him ‘keep off of the road on your ATV’....pretty darn funny. What would have happened in your state with the exact same scenario?

I’d fit in in Alaska I think, but I can’t take the cold.

Let me give you a rating that is even more important; its called the Roofgoat Gun Rating.

This rating is based on how often you hear men and women training with their guns. I’m not talking about redneck shooting at all hours or shooting near homes to close.

I love the sound of gunfire from a distance during the day knowing all the guys around here on their ranches/land are honing their skills.

My little girl use to go to a private christian school which is out in the country. Picked her up one late spring day and before going in the school I heard auto fire. It was far away (sound travels in the country). What was funny was one of the teachers, an older women said “sounds like an automatic” as if she said she heard an owl. No fear or terror, just an accurate observation.

I would certainly have rated them differently.

We could have made our own lists.

I think Arizona in #1 place is about right, but others could be moved about. Full disclosure: I live in Arizona.

I would rate Georgia quite a bit ahead of Florida and Alabama.

I am a native of Florida and have lived in Alabama and Georgia. It is far less trouble (and expense) to get your concealed carry in Georgia plus Florida has a really annoying 3 day wait to pick up your handgun.

I have never been denied a concealed permit in Alabama and it is inexpensive but it is totally up to the sheriff’s whim. When I got my first permit in Alabama the sheriff had been routinely denying them until the Sportsman’s Association told him they were going to get him defeated if he didn’t start issuing them. He then started issuing them.

I might mention that I do not have a Florida CCW. I believe I would easily qualify but just do not want to pay the money. I do have one for Alabama but am not sure if it would be recognized by Florida or not.

"Colorado is a Shall-Issue CCW state."

Some sheriffs exercise quite a bit of discretion concerning that. For example, have you ever seen any kind of therapist or counselor for any reason?

"There is a bill in the Colorado legislature to limit magazines to 15 rounds—among other things—so Magpul may be looking for a new home."

Other gun control bills are gone to the Governor's office for signing. He might be waiting for others before signing them all, including the bill for universal background checks amounting to forced registration of firearms. Ever been accused in writing of domestic violence?

"Denver has an assault weapons law, but otherwise citizens are unfettered."

Incorrect both ways.

"They have a Castle Doctrine law, allowing defense of home. In addition, 35 percent of residents are gun owners, placing Colorado 33rd in the nation."

Sure. A Coloradan can theoretically defend the inside of his or her dwelling. Have fun. Enjoy the cheerleading for tourism.
