RE: Of course if a flat tax were passed, 1000s of tax attorneys, tax preparers, lobbysists, CPAs, etc. would be out of a job. No more TurboTax.

They’ll have to find another line of work. CPAs can still do their work... but NOT on taxes. They can focus on accounting for real profit and loss and the like.

RE: What is 23 percent of the amount from question #1?

Why 23%?

“I think we ought to abolish the IRS and instead move to a simple flat tax where the average American can fill out taxes on postcard,” he explained in a Fox News interview over the weekend. “Put down how much you earn, put down a deduction for charitable contributions, home mortgage and how much you owe. It ought to be a simple one-page postcard, and take the agents, the bureaucracy out of Washington and limit the power of government.” Cruz proposed a flat tax during the 2012 election, but he said he would keep a standard deduction for lower-income earners, as well as deductions for mortgage interest and charitable donations.

It's still an tax on wages and salaries which is completely unconstitutional, anti-American, anti-prosperity and downright evil. It's nobodies business how much money I earn, especially the criminal government.

That postcard is still evidence that can be used against yourself which is a violation of the 5th Amendment. You will still need a massive bureaucracy to make sure people aren't lying on that card and armed agents to go after people that do.

Scrap the evil income tax altogether and don't replace it with anything. If the government can not raise enough money with excise taxes and tariffs they can always ask for voluntary donations.

Put them on a 1 year contract to weed through the budget and find all the areas where we can cut the budget. Heck, they created the problem, what better punishment then to have them fix it.

Would be like making illegals build the border fence.

Why 23%?
Studies have shown that revenue is maximized when taxes are 23% of Gross Domestic Product. Anything higher or lower brings down monies received by the government.

Hard to make it graduated? Of course not. People with more money to spend will spend it, and the tax

will self-adjust to tax the wealthier, not at a higher rate, but at a higher dollar amount.

Poor person spends $50 on clothing and household items and pays $10 in taxes at 20%.

Rich person spends $1500 for a huge soiree for his wife’s birthday and pays $300 in taxes at 20%.

If we limit the size and scope of government, there is no way that they will need that kind of revenue.

But we can’t fix everything at once, I guess.

Oh shut up! Obama has already rendered that argument moot.

Obama has rendered just about the entire Constitution and Bill of Rights moot. Do we just scrap all of it or just the parts you do like?

There’s always going to be tax work for CPAs, regardless of the kind of tax. But then, it’s not our business to pay for Full Employment for CPAs!

I think the IRS will probably also have to continue to exist, but once taxes are no longer down to the individual personal income level, it cannot possibly be as intrusive as it is now.

I appreciate the sentiment of abolishing the IRS but I’ll settle for a nominal flat tax and a 97 percent reduction in IRS staff.

Juan Williams, chief ObamaBot at Fox, sneered at the Sen. Cruz clip yesterday, saying that abolishing the IRS “could never happen.” Wanna bet, Juan?

Some people thought the Berlin Wall was permanent and that the USSR could never crumble. Never say “never.” We do not control events. History is His story.

A good CPA can do a great job on reducing costs [auditing] or identifying problem spots in production-of-product/service, or on ensuring that the banks etc aren't screwing you over.

So a good CPA shouldn't want for work (so long as there are companies doing business).

Ted Cruz: ‘Abolish the IRS’

I admire you Ted and I sincerely wish you success, but the truth is that I believe we'll all be long gone far before the IRS is.

Blah, blah, blah...!

I'm sick and tired of seeing our own attacked on this board. First, it was Sarah Palin. Now's it's Ted Cruz. Stop trying to stab him in the back, and step up and fight alongside him.

Or, would rather have a President Christie inaugurated in January 2017?

No, but we need to right the ship and Ted Cruz is the only Conservative I see on the horizon with a spine of steel and who is not willing to capitulate or seek to curry the love of the corrupt MSM.

Although I am not convinced the NBC argument carries any weight: nonetheless, if my house is on fire and burning to the ground I'll take the trustworthy and competent fireman with a hose regardless of whether he is a card carrying member of firefighter’s union.

One step at a time. Save the Republic first and then we'll look at purity.

Sheesh! The Republic is being torn asunder by the Muslim and his Marxists and we have people here seeking only an immaculate Republican!

*Slaps forehead in profound disbelief*

I understand the thought - but here’s the problem. America should be governed by an American. If Republicans nominate someone born outside of America - it could be a very long time before we seen an ‘American’ American president.

Opening the door for Cruz opens the door for lots of other people.
