Rachel Rose Hartman, a White House reporter for Yahoo! News, couldnt possibly have missed the birther story. It was unavoidable, after all, for an unhealthy chunk of the presidents first term.
Yet: In her story yesterday on Obamas Africa trip, Hartman managed to say that he wont be stopping in the country of his birth. From the context of the story, its clear she was referring to Kenya.
The Erik Wemple Blog has a number of questions for Yahoo! Newsers:
1) How on earth?
2) Did someone forget that the president of the United States needs to be born in the United States (or fulfill other constitutional requirements)?*
Updated (4:50 p.m.): A parenthetical was added to the post to fully account for the ways to qualify for presidential eligibility.

I am of the opinion that when the truth comes out we will find his official name is Soetero and Obama, his fathers name, was never on a birth certificate because there was never a marriage. He assumed the name Obama for political purposes..
The rules don’t apply to Barry.
Mistake — or admission?
If so it was a stupid mistake. Reporters should know not to rely on any information that comes from Obama.
I learned recently that my 2nd cousin’s dad worked in the Czechoslovak embassy in Kenya at the time, which was doing the KGB’s work in the country then (KGB itself was stretched thin and delegated such jobs, as they delegated the attempt on John Paul II’s life to the Bulgarians). His dad, now retired in Ottawa (that’s in Canada), recalls a minor sensation around that time period, when an American girl, thought to be a tourist, and who spoke broken Russian, gave birth to a mulatto boy at a Nairobi hospital. That’s all the old man’ll say.
Obama birthplace mistake: Yahoo! News declines comment
Uh, oh!
Thanks, guys. Pardon me while I laugh.
You don't know any more than anyone else does, except for obama and his inner circle.
You, Steyn or anyone else can't back up their opinion with factual documentation that we all can agree on.
The circumstantial evidence, side stories, comments from those with no stake in his game, the fake documentation, etc. all point to something different than the "official" obamabio.
That's what I see and that tells me much more about this bizarre situation than the books Ayers likely wrote about the fictional "obama" a bunch of US voted for and a few declared our POTUS.
It's really quite remarkable and I marvel at what has been accomplished. Sheer mastery on many levels. No wonder he's so arrogant.
Thanks for the pings.
The truth will out....
Along with the videos, too, unfortunately. I wish my toilet seat was scrubbed that clean as that man's past is from the internet.
I delivered 67 babies in Brooklyn in 6 weeks in 1974, and I don’t remember anything about any of them except the breeches, which were very exciting.
Just told the truth and got caught!
Believe him. The birther movement started on FR because of a FR experience in Kenya at the time. Very similar to what he said No reason to lie in 2005-6.
Nairobi makes more sense (to me) than Mombasa.
Nairobi makes more sense (to me) than Mombasa.
This is a little bit offtopic, but really linked.
Does anyone on FR, currently, have a rough working knowledge of Norwegian/European free-speech rules and regulations?
And it makes for a really snarky reference...
Obie Wan Nairobi from the Half Dark Side
May the farce be with you...
Before independence Mombasa shared two geopolitical existences. it was inside a separate colony, and it also served as capital of the Kenya colony. That’s caused an immense amount of difficulty to folks trying to work their way through the kenya morass. Hope that clarifies things for you.
They have none ~ they have speech restrictions and they have libel and slander laws which are administered by the courts.
