Congress' Top Republicans Praise Obama on Syria

WASHINGTON — Leading congressional Republicans praised President Barack Obama's decision to seek lawmakers' approval before punishing Syria for a chemical attack. But it was far from clear whether they would support such a strike in a region rife with warfare and the specter of retaliation.

"I do believe (Syria) should not have impunity," for the Aug. 21 attack near Damascus, Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said by telephone. "But we need to understand what the whole scope of consequences is. What the president may perceive as limited...won't stop there."

The moment an American cruise missile hits Syrian territory will be the moment American democracy ceases to exist.

Ninety-one percent of Americans oppose attacking Syria.

Since it would be unconstitutional for Obama to strike Syria without Congressional approval, if he does so he will be a dictator and we will be living in a dictatorship.

Yet, at the same time, if Congress DOES vote to support Obama, it will have defied the overwhelming will of the people it’s vowed to represent.

Therefore, a strike on Syria even WITH Congressional approval will still mean America is a dictatorship ruled by Obama, with the added horror that Congress has joined Obama in his dictatorial rule. It will be the end of representative democracy in this county.

Then Obama uses the war vote to demagogue the House into raising the debt ceiling because they voted “for a war that they don’t want to pay for”...

Reading this now, I want to laugh, then I realize it's probably exactly how it will play out. May I add that it will end with the Republicans losing the House in 2014?

Better to tell the president what to do before he does it, than to praise him afterwards.

At least one conservative politician did tell Zero to get his act together and get an approval from Congress if he wants to go to war.

Poor Obama, ever since that speech 2008 I think she lives rent-free in his head.

American foreign policy should not be determined by public opinion polls.
Elections have consequences.

I don’t have a problem with Reps getting what they want. Obama should have obtained Congressional approval before threatening military action. I wish Congress would go after Obama for exceeding his authority in other areas. It is time to rein in the power of the Executive branch.

The idea here by Obama is to get the ignorant ruling class republicans to sign on to this debacle.

Strongly disagree. The idea now is to extract the President from the ledge that he crawled out onto.

Even now, Harry and Nancy are crafting a resolution that allows him to retreat back from the ledge.

And they will welcome Republican support in this regard -- as should we all.

Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt’s military — even as Cairo’s security forces massacre anti-government activists.

[by “anti-government activists” is meant church-burning jihadists]

So if 90% of dems vote for military action against Syria how many stupid Repubs would have to vote with them for it to pass?

Isn’t it amazing how quick some people are to believe what the LameStream Media reports???

The LSM wants the Assclown to succeed—if not in fact, then in perception. So the LSM will paint Obama to look good NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS.

Therefore, they will make it APPEAR that Obama is being praised by bipartisan majorities even if he isn’t being praised.

And some conservatives here on FR swallow it, hook line and sinker.

The media is happy when we are unhappy.
