Obama: I'd fix HealthCare.gov myself, "but I don't write code"
CBS News ^ | November 8, 2013 | Lindsey Boerma

Posted on 11/08/2013 12:51:16 PM PST by Zakeet

President Obama wanted to go in himself and fix glitches that have plagued HealthCare.gov since its rollout last month, he told a crowd Friday at the Port of New Orleans, "but," he added, "I don't write code."

The president couldn't ignore altogether lingering dissatisfaction with the botched health insurance exchanges, despite that the crux of the speech was intended to move back on the offensive with other aspects of his second-term agenda - specifically, job growth through investments in infrastructure and increasing U.S. exports.

>> but," he added, "I don't write code."

Of course not ... that would require that ability to engage in logical thought, and reason from cause to effect, and take responsibility for actions.

Barry Benghazi is only good for making empty promises and blaming others.

“Hello World” reqires the ability to follow instructions and work within the rules of the system.

Barry the Unconstitutional can’t manage that ...

If he wrote a program it would immediately go into our checking accounts and siphon off all our funds and use them for brand new 0bamaphones for the ‘poor’.

The next day the media would be all happy, with “masterpiece of programming. Hidden talent. Who knew the pres was a real good programmer? Elegant code. Not only a great president, but a great programmer.”

I am no expert but don't you use a programing language now days and not do coding the old fashion way?

In the olden days, we still used programming languages. Today, with web design, much of the actual coding can be graphical in nature. For example, creating forms can be a matter of dragging and dropping "fields" onto a screen. You can even tie forms to database calls for simple things, avoiding the need to write SQL.

While you can create basic forms like that, there should be programming calls for security, and certainly any "processing" that occurs. I would venture to guess that the SQL generated should be much more sophisticated and optimzed. Plus, there's also a need to load balance certain parts of the program across servers, to keep the site from crashing.

Don't you program it then compile it to machine language so it will work faster?

For simple websites, you may not require a compiler to translate program code into machine code. You simply "publish" your web pages to a web server. A program like this undoubtedly has a number of programs on the back-end however, communicating with other databases, computing metrics, etc. It's very likely those programs have to be compiled.

But as we used to say in school, "just because the program compiled, doesn't mean it works!"

Of course, all of that is theoretical. Who knows what the actual design of this site is supposed to do?

He doesn’t know how to run a printing press either, but he still prints money and refills EBT accounts. Pretty good phone salesman too. He also says “he’s real good at killing people”.

“Hello, World” would probably give him fits, not necessarily because the code is too difficult, but because he would have to deign to acknowledge the world around him.

LOL!

When he learned to code, he wrote "Hello, Obama." programs.
