After weeks of speculation that John Boehner won't a third term as House speaker following the November elections, the betting on Capitol Hill is now that the Ohio Republican will seek to retain the speaker's gavel after all.
One source close to Boehner who requested anonymity told Newsmax, "I'm told that Boehner gave an unequivocal commitment to remain where he is. So the races are for No. 2 and No. 3 now, for the next two years." The source referred to the current contests for majority leader and majority whip, to be decided by House Republicans June 19.
It is precisely this upheaval in the House Republican hierarchy, sparked by the resignation Wednesday of Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia as majority leader, that has reportedly convinced Boehner to run again for speaker, the same source said.
"I think he will run again," said veteran GOP consultant Chip Saltsman, former top aide to Rep. Chuck Fleischmann of Tennessee and manager of Mike Huckabees 2008 presidential campaign, "because he knows how important the continuity of the [Republican] conference is, as the new leadership team has its chance."
Boehner is also reportedly now convinced Republicans will win a majority in the Senate this year, permitting Congress to pass legislation that the President Barack Obama must veto.
With the Republican-run House often passing measures only to have them buried in the other chamber by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Boehner and his colleagues have been made to appear in the press as trying to govern with one half of one of the three branches of government.

NO ... NO ... A THOUSAND TIMES NO !!!
John Boehner has got to be the worst, most ineffective Speaker of the House in modern history. A total disaster. If he’s planning to run again, he’d better be prepared for a whale of a fight because we WILL be turning up the heat on members of Congress to elect a stronger, more conservative alternative... Someone with a little more fire in the belly who isn’t afraid to stand up to Obama, Reid, and the Dems.
If you have a GOP Representative make it known to him that your support depends on his support for Boehner. Make Boehner radio-active.
I don’t know. But Gizzi tends to be a pretty good reporter.
I don’t think we can stop him unless Pelosi is the Speaker. Republican members of the House are toothless little tigers when it comes to standing up for the Constitution, but they are roaring lions against conservatives. Unfortunately, the American people are not conservative.
That’s a very good strategy!
Been there done that, he's still for Boehner.
Even that hapless old dupe, Bob Michel, was more effective than Boehner and he was Minority Leader.
Naturally, now maybe a few will symbolically vote for Mickey Mouse or someone else not even in house again.
Talk radio model: "We don't need leaders, we just need complainers"

What a crock of BS! Boehner would only use the fact that Obama CAN veto legislation as an excuse to NOT pass anything! These worthless GOP establishment hacks ALWAYS make excuses for not standing up to the left-wing statists!
Bingo. Boehner would have been happy turning the reins over to a Speaker Cantor. But now that the whole thing is up in the air then he'll hang on to the job rather than chance a Tea Partier getting it.
Allen West for Speaker.
I know. Keep it up, though. The more they hear it the more they will be likely to respond to it - sort of like banging pots with ladles.
Late last night, I was driving home from my part time job, listening to a tape delay of Mark Levin’s show.
He was commenting on the apparent ascension of Kevin McCarthy to become Majority Leader. He said that members of Congress would be reluctant to challenge an alternative to McCarthy for fear that they may end up on the losing side and not get good committee assignements.
I think we could say the same thing about Boehner - based on two ifs (a) the GOP retains control and (b) Boehner actually wants the job. Any GOP member of Congress who ends up supporting the wrong side could easily be punsihed by receiving lesser committee assignment.
Rightly or wrongly, getting good committee assignments is a big deal to most members of Congress.
this upheaval is good.
I recall he got one vote for that, quite an uprising.

And hence the reason why approval ratings for Congress continue to plunge and are languishing at the bottom the toilet. The disconnect has never been greater between the American people and our elected “leaders” in Washington D.C. and we are SICK TO DEATH of them trying to maintain the status quo! I certainly hope the more conservative members of Congress aren’t concerning themselves with committee assignments or they too will eventually be subject to pink slips come election time!
