Anyone else spending Christmas Eve alone?
The bizarro world of brother skooz | 12/24/2014 | Skooz

Hello all. Sitting here at home and wondering if anyone else out there is spending this evening alone.

On this night of all nights when families gather and friends share gifts and time, some of us are, for various reasons, spending Christmas Eve solo.

Not necessarily a bad thing - alone doesn't always mean lonely. But, it does mean alone.

Check in if that includes any of you, my fellow Freepers.

I am of the asocial type. But my son still tolerates me. We are sitting here watching Netflix, he is playing some video game, and I am reading this thread...

And from my perspective, I am pretty content. No stress of people coming over or having to go somewhere and fail socially.

Currently sipping one of these. Best hot chocolate ever:

Slow Cooker Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate

Prep time
5 mins
Cook time
2 hours
Total time
2 hours 5 mins
Serves: 8

Ingredients

2 cups semi sweet OR milk chocolate chips (milk chocolate chips will yield a much richer flavor

½ cup caramels, unwrapped
4 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
½ teaspoon fine sea salt (for regular non-salted caramel hot chocolate, leave this out)
optional: whipping cream, caramel sauce (like caramel ice cream topping)

Instructions

Add chocolate chips, caramels, milk, heavy cream, and vanilla to the slow cooker. Cover and cook on low for 2 hours.

Stir the hot chocolate. If the chocolate chips or caramels are not completely melted, cover and allow to cook for 20-30 minutes longer. When ready to serve, stir in the sea salt. Serve hot with whipped cream and additional caramel sauce if desired.

No, there are no humans and has not been for some time, but there are several cats which are wonderful company and as someone mentioned, they are very good listeners! I never had children, but the cats are the next best thing.

No tree or decorations. Some of the cats would have a field day!

He is 30-ish. Loves hunting haji. I think he may stay for a long time. Plus, he got a HALO assignment. His dream. He is the elite.

It can’t get better in civilian life as far as he is concerned. They don’t let you jump out of airplanes and blow things up :-)

Thank you deeply for the prayers!

I understand. Alone tonight but will have my daughter, her husband, 2 grandchildren plus one of my great granddaughters here tomorrow. Have the Christmas music channel on tv. Love listening to oldies but have heard a few new ones, too. Merry Christmas, everyone.

I love it!

Excellent! So happy for you!

Merry Christmas, Sarge!

Yeah, that’s a lot of exclamation marks, but they’re ok if you really mean them.

Should really use the term asocial - antisocial probably isn’t what you are.

Just remember your best Friend Jesus is with you at all times. Ask the Holy Spirit to direct your thoughts. I’m glad there is a “Free Republic” with Freeper Friends to dialogue with, too.

Merry Christmas to you. I am not alone, but have spent many holidays alone. My husband had hip replacement surgery on Monday. Got him home today, and he’s asleep, and I’m on the computer. The kids will come for dinner and gift exchanging on Saturday.

Had some quiet time this afternoon, and had the idea that counting my blessings would be a good exercise. And it was.

Find some beauty and joy, and savor it. Merry Christmas.

My cat is extremely friendly. She likes to sit on my knee and purr while I’m using the computer. She can also be very assertive, which I understand is a trait among calico cats.

I wish I were alone. Rather, my lazy step-daughter just sits there on her cell phone and computer at the same time, not helping (she got up at 3:30pm). Wife watches tv and does very little. meanwhile , I have cooked shrimp, scallops, fresh rolls, steak, crab cakes, stuffed flounder and longneck clams.
Enjoy being alone. You don’t even want to guess the crap they are watching, ugh.

Just reading through and wasn’t going to post until I came to yours. I lost my wife a nearly 3 1/2 years ago. Being alone on Christmas Eve isn’t the problem. It’s the ebb and flow of loneliness all the rest of the time that gets me.

On my way to church in about 5 minutes.

The dogs are sleeping in the living room, I have a cat on my lap as I try to type, and I feel the spirit and soul of my late wife beside me. Alone? Not ever...I also have the Lord with me always. Merry Christmas
