Greece just threatened to seize German assets over World War II

Greece's justice minister said on Wednesday he was ready to implement a High Court ruling allowing Athens to seize German state-owned property to compensate victims of a Nazi massacre in a small Greek village.

Nikos Paraskevopoulos' comments come against a backdrop of rising tensions between Athens and Berlin as Greece's new leftist government struggles to persuade its European Union partners to renegotiate a 240 billion euro bailout package.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Tuesday accused successive German governments of using legal tricks to avoid paying reparations for the brutal Nazi occupation of Greece and said he would support efforts to push for compensation.

Speaking on Mega TV, Paraskevopoulos said a high-court ruling from 2000, which allowed the confiscation of German property to compensate relatives of some 218 Greeks killed in the village of Distomo, was still valid.

The ruling needs to be endorsed by the justice minister to be enacted, and Paraskevopoulos' predecessors have baulked at the idea, knowing it would lead to a showdown with Berlin.

Greece thinks it has leverage on Germany, to demand more money, it seems.

The Germans are beginning to tire of the ill mannered, rude, Greek pauper who is a permanent guest at their dinner table.

Germany tried to conquer Europe through two world wars. It finally succeeded.

Germany may just seize all of greece to cover their debts and appoint a governor who can get them back to work—in the labor camps. Its not nice to poke the German Tiger in the eye.

“Its not nice to poke the German Tiger in the eye.”

Hence the calls for an “EU Army” in recent days. Gotta keep those errant states that refuse the Troika in line, doncha know.

” Its not nice to poke the German Tiger in the eye.”

You mean the same German “Tiger” that after the Iraq War did nothing to help the US occupying forces except drink beer?

The Germans have the moral high ground. After all, they refused bailouts after the 2008 banking crisis. You know, the one where German, French, and British central bankers were duped by average American home buyers.

They thought subprime meant grade A. So the USA bailed them out. And the Germans act like they never heard of the Marshall plan. Your turn in der barrel Heinie,,,,

Don't buy property in Greece no matter how cheap it looks.

If you stand and ask some questions...it becomes more comical than you think.

There’s only three total properties in all of Greece....owned extensively by the German government. There’s the embassy in Athens, which I don’t think they’d be stupid enough to grab because it’ll invite lots of discussions on the protection of embassies. The second property? The Goethe Institute building (middle of Athens), modern structure, maybe worth three to five million Euro. The third building, a German archaeology training facility in Athens....older structure, and maybe worth one to two million Euro. It has a huge library and that’s probably of more value than the building itself.

But the moment you do something like this....what do you think happens? There’s roughly 500,000 Germans who vacation in Greece yearly (it used to be more). They spend tons of money on booze, food, hotels and stupid field trips to Zeus’s cave (don’t ask).

What exactly do you think the typical German guy will think when he reads these two buildings were taken over? Suddenly, 500,000 vacationing Germans will drift down to 50,000. You lose billions in simple and easy vacation revenue....off an act with no real pay-back.

Now, I come to the ‘dark shadowy’ corner of this whole thing. Somehow, I see a couple of Turks in the shadows and suggesting the Greeks go and get stupid. Pushing them along....doping them into some stupid behavior. Where would the 450,000-odd Germans go instead of Greece for a vacation? Turkey....it’s that simple. Greece may think this is the best way to proceed....but it’ll destroy their economy within one short year.

When in high school I learned that all WWII debt to the USA was forgiven. I have never understood. I still say that now is the time for the USA to call in ALL WWII debt!

I don’t support Merkel’s EU New Order in Greece anymore than I support Adolf’s New Order in Greece over 70 years ago.

Left and Right don’t matter to me when the EU is the enemy.

Go Greeks......

Hell, the Greeks still owe for the cleanup from the time they left thousands of used Trojans lying around.
