Trump blames Bush for 9/11... and he's right in some ways

Bush has been warned that Bin Laden was planning to attack the US

On Aug. 6, 2001, President George W. Bush received a classified review of the threats posed by Osama bin Laden and his terrorist network, Al Qaeda. That morning’s “presidential daily brief” — the top-secret document prepared by America’s intelligence agencies — featured the now-infamous heading: “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in U.S.” A few weeks later, on 9/11, Al Qaeda accomplished that goal.

In the aftermath of 9/11, Bush officials attempted to deflect criticismthat they had ignored C.I.A. warnings by saying they had not been told when and where the attack would occur. That is true, as far as it goes, but it misses the point. Throughout that summer, there were events that might have exposed the plans, had the government been on high alert. Indeed, even as the Aug. 6 brief was being prepared, Mohamed al-Kahtani, a Saudi believed to have been assigned a role in the 9/11 attacks, was stopped at an airport in Orlando, Fla., by a suspicious customs agent and sent back overseas on Aug. 4. Two weeks later, another co-conspirator, Zacarias Moussaoui, was arrested on immigration charges in Minnesota after arousing suspicions at a flight school. But the dots were not connected, and Washington did not react.

If Bush had really been so concerned about our security, he would have ordered the State Department and related agencies to check up on the activities of recent Muslim visitors from suspect Middle Eastern nations.

According to the article quoted above, the warnings actually had started coming as early as May 1st, so Bush had time to react.

Trump will send previous W supporters over to Jeb

Don't you think they are already supporting Jeb?

Prior to 9-11 anyone, President included, that would have announced a threat from Bin Laden would have been met with Chicken Little criticism. Isn’t hindsight just a wonderful thing?

Absolutely right.

"Clinton put policy into effect that prohibited law enforcement agencies from communicating with each other"

That was done by the Church Commission in the 1970s because Nixon was using CIA and FBI to spy on his political enemies.

What you are talking about is Jamie Gorelick who was asst AG under Clinton. Because of the investigation of the first WTC bombing, she was called upon to define the height of the wall between CIA and FBI, which is why she had a prominent position on the 9-11 commission.

So some GOPers did try to blame her but that never stuck primarily because most GOPers didn't blame her.

If you want more info on that, it is covered in Gorelick's Wiki page.

The House of Said was/is funding terrorist groups

Yet W let the Saudi's off the hook and went after Iraq (destabilizing the delicate balance between Shia and Sunnis in the ME).

I guess Trump’s next thing will be to claim 9-11 was an inside job and Bush knew about it.

And some of Trump’s mindless bots would bend themselves into knots to agree with him.

You’re right that Trump is a Democrat, but his disguise is lousy, and it slips at least once a week. The thing is, some of his supporters are also Democrats, so they don’t care. They have come out in support of Obamacare right on this forum, and one of them dismissed abortion as no big deal.

That’s a fair point but Trump are established his anti-Bush bona fides when he continued to point out that he was against the Iraq war.

Fallacious straw man argument.

Ignore.

Trump is a loser. His loud mouth blowhardism will lose in the long run. Man to man he couldn’t debate his way out of a paper bag. His brash manner and arrogance can only go so far. Any of the other candidates will destroy him one on one. That “I’m, I, Me, Mine” paradigm is wearing thin. He’s a bombastic blowhard. There’s absolutely no depth to the man, zilch, nil, nada. He has no humility. Sure he’s rich and he can make a deal. So? So can Kim Kardashian and Jerry Jones. So can Jay-Z and Kanye. Big Deal. Like Obama, he’s a man of the times for the times, a total nonentity meanly admired by mean people. He will never be president. He’s just a garish marketable product wrapped in glitzy tinsel.

Bush, like most people, couldn’t imagine 19 savages yelling allaku Akbar and flying occupied planes into occupied buildings.

As of 9/11, there has been no excuse.

What in the article is incorrect?

You mean we should base our response on the facts?

you are SO right. so many conservatives,, Republicans, and freepers, blather on about the importance of “personal responsibility” and “personal accountabiity.” But they don’t want ANYONE to hold George Bush accountable for ANYTHING that happened while he was president. That’s not accountability, you see, it’s saying “it’s Bush’s fault” — and NOTHING is Bush’s fault.

“To coin a phrase...he chose poorly.”

Yes. And he bears responsibility for that choice. Or should.

People are misconstruing this as W is being blamed for 9/11. He is not, but he does bear the responsibility for being so damn ineffective in the months leading up to it. He was hampered from the fallout of the 2000 election, but he was still the damn president and had a hard time acting like it.

Trump is just another liberal moron”

Facts are “liberal” or “conservative”. Facts are facts. They’re reality. It’s a fact that Bush was president when 9-11 happened. All Trump did was speak a fact.

My memory may not be correct...the Senate as I recall was 50/50, and the players were Tom Daschle and Trent Lott. Lott put together that foolish power sharing arrangement.

Dang! I was trying to think of a way to say the same thing and while my feeble brain was struggling with it you come along and state my thoughts perfectly!

And, I happen to be one that admires W’s patriotism, his decency and the fact that his wife and I went to the same high school at the same time (I didn’t know her).

All that said, W and his dad and Jeb NEVER saw a big spending government program they didn’t like. In fact, they LOVE government.....period!

That attack took awhile to plan and prepare. OBL didn’t just hatch the plan in January 2001.
