“It reminded me of days in the Old West where there’d be a shooting and the whole town would go through and look,†former NYPD officer Bill Stanton tells TheWrap.
The FBI potentially dropped the ball by letting media ransack the home of the San Bernardino shooters just two days after the massacre.
“They [the FBI] totally scrubbed it from head to toe, or it’s a major **** up,†former NYPD police officer Bill Stanton told TheWrap about reporters from MSNBC, CNN and other outlets being allowed into the suspects’ home to comb through photos and documents.
Stanton, who worked for the NYPD and in private security for 25 years, said the combined strength and power of the U.S. government and law enforcement could have successfully stripped down the shooters’ home successfully in a day.
But it’s also possible the FBI erred by giving the all-clear signal to the landlord to allow media into the home too soon.
“It doesn’t make our services look efficient,†Stanton continued. “It reminded me of days in the Old West where there’d be a shooting and the whole town would go through and look.â€
On Friday, the FBI defended what looked like a chaotic and shocking scene on TV, saying the home was no longer a crime scene and its owners were free to do what they wanted with the property.
“We did a very thorough search and took our time and completed it,†she said. “There are cases where we need to preserve a location, but that’s extremely rare,†Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Los Angeles, told Reuters.
As TheWrap reported, MSNBC came under heavy fire on social media for showing unblurred images of children and other potential family and friends of the shooters who may have had nothing to do with the grisly massacre.
Another former NYPD officer, Tom Ruskin, told TheWrap that the network’s decision was “irresponsible and disgusting,†suggesting those people showed on camera could be forced into hiding as a result of their images being broadcast publicly.
“They have potentially caused innocent people, people that may not be tied to this crime, the possibility of being harmed, and they have to go into hiding,†Ruskin said.
The network expressed regret for showing the images. “We regret that we briefly showed images of photographs and identification cards that should not have been aired without review,†a spokesperson said in a statement Friday.

When you stand back and look at the big picture...you come away with a couple of observations.
The FBI look like some Banana-republic 5th-grade kids who’ve been called in to look for Mrs Mulligan’s cat. Their act, at best, simply shows that the AG doesn’t care or want effective law enforcement.
The news media stands there and pretends to be concerned...but it’s mostly all act. Some ratings bump....some glossy images....some hype....and back to a marginal news service.
Finally, you just sit and wonder what the original plan was because this appears to be some off-the-handle moment when the husband just said ‘lets go’. It’s almost like the two were hyped up or on some narcotic (like the Paris attackers).
It’s not like they have to worry about evidence being tainted at a trial. Both perps are dead.

More likely that the FBI and police got their orders from the president or ilk to allow them in to contaminate and destroy evidence so that anyone who might be involved with the two dead peeps will get to claim that evidence was ‘planted’ ‘not handled properly’ etc-

It has been reported that they had numerous visitors to the place however. Now the chances of finding fingerprints of individuals on watchlists has been greatly decreased.
For sure, do not think for a minute they were pulling all of this together on their own, and they know if they start following leads it will be a trail right back to Washington.

One ex detective said that he saw no evidence of dusting for fingerprints.
A neighbor said that they had seen 5-6 middle eastern males coming and going recently.
Those fingerprints or dna are now gone or evidence corrupted.
The problem is they tainted a scene that could lead to clues about others involved and the connections to world-wide terrorism. I think it was intentionally done.
The best prosecution process against Islamic Terrorists.
It is very, very doubtful they carried this off alone. Letting so many people walk through and ransack has destroyed any evidence that could tie others to this couple.
Think this one through. The guy made $51k per year. He had a new wife and new baby, and is living in high-tax CA. How much did the trip to Saudi Arabia cost? How much did the weapons and ammo cost?
I just don't think he has that much disposable income left after living in CA. Despite it seeming like a lot in other areas. Someone else is involved. Not for million$, but for $10-20k. A small enough amount that one, or a few locals could have provided it, but a lot more than Farook could have dug up from the couch cushions.

It doesn’t make much sense, really. FBI ‘finished’ with the crime scene after only a few hours? I seem to recall that Unibomber. After getting caught, didn’t they disassemble his mountain cabin in its entirety and transport it back for more inspection and analysis?
From what I saw of the photo collage of the place, there was too much there to just be done in a few hours. Who knows what Muslim Terrorists we won’t be able to prosecute now.
If this was really a major FBI eff-up, then we are in deep sh!t with respect to Muslim terrorists in this country. If it was a ‘higher-up’ directive, then we all know what the means, too.
