Most Americans are not THAT demanding of a strict definition of conservatism
But as a private citizen it's always been his stuff on the table. As President, it will be our stuff he's bartering to make the deal work.
He does not argue from an academic philosophic perspective; but it is from the same identification of who is who, and who is for who, that the academic philosophers, who are Conservative, also reflect.
That is the point in realizing that Cruz & Trump neatly complement each other. (See Support For Trump & Cruz.)
Man, I forgot how t’do the dozens ... gimmee a little time ....
I’m all for debate on the merits, as well as making “realpolitik” observations and predictions, such as SCOTUS will continue to evade certain issues, and stick its beak in where it has no power but has an itch. My remark was on the fact that the labels “conservative” and “liberal” generate more heat than light.
“If he builds the wall and closes the immigration door to muslims ... he will have accomplished more than any president since Kennedy”
And if he gets elected and just reverts back the same NYC liberal he always was?
IF
Trump’s hoi polloi supporters are being played for suckers, but they’re either too stubborn or too dim to perceive it.
There is absolutely no definition of conservative that fits Trump, there just isn’t.
There is nothing conservative about him.
Anyone who thinks an immoral foul-mouthed buffoon who holds his own in a perv-off with Howard Stern and marries a porn star is going to resurrect a Norman Rockwell America is off their rocker.
What marks Conservatives out, across the generations,
and whatever the environment they operate in,
is an attitude of mind rather than an adherence to dogma.
And that disposition
- skeptical, cautious, pragmatic, sensitive to the local and the particular
- has been politically successful because it has been in tune with human nature.

You don't say nice things and usually your fighting 'style' looks really stupid .... but you will not be taken down easily
That's a lie. This keeps getting posted. How about changing to championing Cruz's positions? Can't do it can you.
Let's investigate: Cruz wants the Romney plan of self deportation (that's GOPe speak for ain't gonna do it). Not only that, Cruz only wants to deport criminals (that's GOPe speak for slow down and we might get rid of a few).
But what's worse, is Cruz - try denying it - will not deport the deadbeat illegals living off welfare, public housing, food stamps etc in the sanctuary cities.
Why? Oh why are you being a nitpicking shill for Cruz against Trump when Cruz's plan is pure GOPe and so pathetic.
I do not disagree. What I am seeing/reading this election cycle has little truth in advertising... It like this nation is plagued with vertigo because everything sits on shifting sand.
I guess some folks don’t want a hypocritical globalist who fleeces the flock on a piety platform.
I don’t imagine myself to be in some sort of martial arts movie, so I don’t care what my “fighting style” is. The irreducible truth is that Trump was a lifelong NYC Democrat until his miraculous conversion of 2015. He’s a false “profit.”
Bingo!
I’ve never seen that, but I’ve printed it out ... thanx
I view Trump as America’s FIRST CEO.
Running multiple companies is really hard.
I have problems just handling two plus my real job.
There have been LOTS of CEO’s who are hard to deal with, Steve Jobs is the most well known.
Andy Grove was the BEST CEO Intel ever had and was hard as nails.
Henry Ford by himself, changed America by automating assembly plants.
I really don’t care if Trump kisses babies or not.
Close the borders, pay the bills, invest in those things which make financial sense.
He is also a builder--an inherently Conservative motivating factor. You build on a foundation. The foundation of American Conservative politics are the principles that are sacred at Free Republic. There is a common motivation, here, to build on a foundation. The problem is simply to adjust each others' focus to understand how to work better together.
One can not discover the breadth of the conservative spectrum looking through a soda straw
What I am concerned about is what he’s going to do this the capitalist system. He’s basically an economic control freak. He believes in regulation, subsidies, and government spending. He has no use for competitive markets. To him economics is simply a game of who can do a better job of market manipulation.
