What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

They like Trump's message: Say what you want to say, piss on the media (because they are whores and they deserve it) talk about getting back to manufacturing things in THIS country, get AMERICAN CITIZENS back to work, STOP the suicidal demographic transformation of this country through legal and illegal immigration, protect borders, language and culture.

I agree with all of these things, but I think many see the candidate as flawed. His favorite book is NOT the Bible. He was for gun control before he was against it. He's done things and said differently. His statements on PP, and his propensity to be a "Republican" version of Obama with executive orders (although I wouyld be fine with him EO-ing all of O's EOs null and void) His twitter account...

what I don't understand is what you are saying. If the alternative is Cruz, why are some of these Trump supporters (most of who liked Cruz before) behaving in a particular manner? It's not just the insults, which I don't mind. It is the intellectual inconsistency.

I hate saying this, but it is the level of "worship" liberal losers had for the kenyan back in 2008.

I respect that you differ in your opinion on the best candidate from me. Attacking people in a personal way for their beliefs is not a way to win them over. That goes for both sides.

In my case I did not like Cruz’s support of TPA, the Corker amendment, but most of all his selling out tea Party and conservative primary opponents in the 2014 primaries to get McConnell’s okay to run for President. I just cannot come to trust him. For me, backing Trump requires a great leap of faith and a risk but I personally believe he is worth the risk. In my heart I cannot trust Cruz any more than I could Rubio after the Gang of Eight.

“For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. “

Another one of these whiny posts.

What happened is that Trump early on took the issues that people here have been screaming for candidates to fearlessly champion without backing off at the first swipe from the left.

Trump took the heat and the attacks for that, and he didn’t back down.

He thus put those issues as the central themes of the campaign, and not what’s under Hillary’s pantsuit.

And thus HE GOT THE SUPPORT.

Cruz spent the entire summer and up until December in single digits and avoiding any attempt at getting into the fight. He hid behind Trump and let him do the heavy lifting.

So you know what? Trump got the gold, while you post yet another one of these goofy appeals to vote for Ted just because he checks off some boxes on a piece of paper and not because he earned it.

This isn’t conservative affirmative action.

He had his chance, he did not lead, and now Trump is

I will bet that 98% of your responses will be three single syllabic responses, slightly beyond grunts and farts (how could distinguish between the two?). This is not of the FreeRepublic of old, that is gone forever. This is the first election of the Idiocracy Era and both sides are in full cry. This is exactly what the media has tried to fashion.

May the media go to hell, and those of you idiots you follow them blindly, may you follow.

That’s a far preferable, and sensical response than that offered by GG2.

Occasional bouts of madness are required, sooner or later the pendulum will swing and we’ll be back to the banality of the “All Your Base” days.

What has happened to principled conservative Ted Cruz? Cruz standing with Barack Obama & Goldman Sachs to enable Obama’s secret trade agenda? Carnac Cruz smearing his opponent about what MAY be in his taxes? Occupy Ted standing with Bill Ayers and the violent communists who attacked conservatives in Chicago?

FR conservatives didn’t leave Ted Cruz. Climbing careerist Ted Cruz left us.

You're entitled to your opinion.

If you can judge a man by his friends, Cruz is a GOP Conservative, just like Lindsey Graham, Jeb Bush, Carly Fiorina and Mitt Romney.

Sorry, if that's being a Conservative, then I guess I'm not.

I loathe Trump but I’ll vote for him for the following reasons; Dole, Bush I, McCain, Bush II and Romney. Someone has to throw a cherry bomb into the GOP-e’s punchbowl and I don’t see a better way than to elect the Horse’s Ass Trump and let him destroy as much of the unresponsive republican party establishment as possible. Cruz is a good man and if there is ever a responsive party behind him, I’ll be happy to vote for him.

What you are saying would be true if that were all we knew about Ted Cruz. He does have decent conservative creds. But he lies every time he speaks on national TV. He runs a dishonest campaign. He is Christian-creepy, not Christian good. (He affects the cadence and speech of a phony televangelist and he claims Gd gives himself victory in primaries, which is like saying Gd doesn’t care for your opponents.)

Especially his LIES. They are as provable as Hillary’s. Where have YOU been that you don’t see his fall from grace?

I’ve been here since August of 2000. Got to say that I agree with Katwoman. Lot of Freepers have lost their minds.
