What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

One big thing that has changed at FR is that we now use paragraph breaks, even for vanities.

Politicians throw money at problems as a bandaid effect in order to keep the problem alive for their reelection.

I have also supported Cruz but I agree with your assessment and will have no problem supporting Trump I’m just shocked at the bitter hatred between the two camps on FR.

I have always seen Dims as angry, bitter and vitriolic, lately I’d have to say that about many on FR.

This kind of garbage is frequently zotted as “flamebait.”
There's tons of this type of post supporting Trump and it is allowed.

“We conservatives are a minority in the Republican Party.”

Resting on laurels by many since Reagan days. Taking things for granted.

Guess what. Conservatism is not widely understood, since few bother to educate, persuade, convince, sell, illustrate with examples.

Including the current candidates.

I’d be willing to bet Trump reaches across the isle the first day he is in office. After all, he’s been greasing their filthy little hands for 30 years. Good luck in your asylum.

LOL....”dozens”? There were often 30 or more at a clip on that horrid bugzapper thread and some people got zapped who not only weren’t even ON that thread, but hadn’t posted to FR in a week or many weeks.

This is where the rubber hits the road. This is where you see who the real conservatives are. None of the people you listed have ever impressed me. They are just opportunists.

Please tell me what you prefer:

Hillary vs. Trump

Hillary vs. Cruz

I favor the opponent of Hillary without any qualification. Those of you playing those silly games that end up help Hillary may you sent upon by a pox that will leave you in writhing in pain and despair.

“Trump and Cruz have completely different political philosophies.”

We likely disagree about Trump and Cruz’s political philosophies. I personally don’t think Ted Cruz believes much of anything, besides whatever helps him to forward his career in government. That’s just my observation, having watched him during this election.

Trump, on the other hand, appears to me to be the practical sort, who’s bent on implementing the solutions to our nation’s most existential problems that most Americans agree with. He’s been proposing some of those solutions since the 1980s. Some, more recently, but I must say that I find it hard to criticize any of them.

Trump is credible on these things because he came out with his proposals when it was politically unpopular and dangerous to do so. Ted echoed with similar policies only after Trump had cleared the way. In my view, only one of those men showed real courage and leadership when it mattered.

I don't know anyone who is actually "in favor" of Trump; well, maybe HD27. Rather, it seems many Trump supporters might secretly believe he is actually a buffoon, but are primarily motivated by their hatred for the uni-party and what they have done to the country.

What rock are you living under?

#487 oh you know it. Chuckles Schumer and little Dicky Turbin will be wanting Trump to be “malleable”. Might even remind him of a few dirty tricks they helped push thru for him...
