What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

Some people are easily fooled. And one that comes to their position not by reason cannot be reasoned with. Ever heard you can’t argue with crazy? Or if you wrestle with someone in the mud you get mud on you too. I think the debates proved that.

We had a great opportunity to get a great conservative in office—Hillary is seriously flawed. Instead a circus act rides in to town and steals the show with 40% of the vote. Sad thing is I think I now know who the left is making fun of when they laugh at us. Yes the left have the moonbats and we do too :-(

I try to be intellectually consistent rather then ruled by emotionalism.

I don't always succeed but I try.

I spend more time reading FR than posting. And now I know why.

I know why too.

Even though you posted a long rant about what was wrong with FR, a lot of people gave you thoughtful and well expressed answers about this election cycle, the candidates, etc.

Your response was to go through the thread insulting and name calling a majority of the posters.

I see why you identify with Ted ;)

Have you noticed that your hero Trump lately has said he is a "unifier" who wants to bring the party together, and that would include the "establishment" or "GOPe," some of whom he has mentioned by name (Ryan, McConnell)? Do you think that your hero Trump, if he should get the nomination and go on toward the general--do you think he would entirely "self-fund" or do you think he would accept money from the "GOPe" and the "donor class"?

The point is, both Trump and Cruz realize they would need to try to unify the party in order to have a shot at winning in November. So don't think your guy Trump is so "anti-establishment" that he won't accept allies from the "GOPe." In fact, he already has.

“. . ..never has run anything....never been in a management position. . .”

Seriously?

Have you never read Cruz’s bio? Please do. If you don’t like him, by all means vote for Trump. If you want experience and someone who has proven he’ll fight for conservatism, well . . .

As near as I can tell, from what shows up in the "conservative" media, those conservative positions would be:

1) Immigration: Open borders are good. Cheap labor increases business profits.

2) Trade: Unlimited free trade is good. American businesses can buy from foreign companies, or set up their own manufacturing operations overseas and increase business profits.

3) Foreign policy: America need to be involved in conflicts all over the world. Businesses can make a lot of money with all that the government spends on blowing stuff up.

And, of course, probably half or more of people who consider themselves to be conservative disagree with those positions on immigration, trade and foreign policy. But that is what the GOP has backed over the years.

Actually, what many who call themselves conservatives and agree with those positions actually are, they're globalists when it comes to immigration, trade and foreign policy, but not many like that accurate label.

But it's pretty silly for the argument to go on and on about what candidate is and isn't conservative when the critical issues just don't fit neatly into those categories.

False. CRUZ: Well, let’s be clear. First of all, the protesters were in the wrong. When you come up and — and you use violence, you engage in violence, you threaten violence, and when you try to shut — shut down and shout down speech, that — that’s not what the First Amendment allows. The First Amendment gives every one of us the right to speak, but not to disrupt others.

I agree. I’ve been a Freeper for 18 years. I started under a different screen name. I don’t recognize this place any more. Free Republic, you had a good run while you lasted. Now, you’re apparently being inundated like the rest of the country by people who have forgotten from whence they come. Very sad.
