Straightforward mathematical path to elimination for Cruz v Trump

Posted on 04/07/2016 4:33:06 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Edited on 04/07/2016 4:48:52 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

According to Politico's delegate counter (http://www.politico.com/2016-election/results/delegate-count-tracker) there are 882 delegates left.

If this s true, here is the delegate math to elimination:

Cruz currently has 517 delegates so he needs to win 720 more (81.6%) of the remaining delegates to reach the 1237 magic number. So Cruz can only afford to lose a maximum of 162 delegates or he is mathematically eliminated.

Trump currently has 743 delegates so he needs to win 494 more (56%) of the remaining delegates to reach the 1237 magic number. So Trump can afford to lose up to 388 delegates without being mathematically eliminated.

Fact Cruz has lost delegates at a much higher rate than Trump throughout this primary.

It appears to me that Cruz is more than twice as likely as Trump to be mathematically eliminated.

“Trump hasn’t bought any delegates.”

Then he will lose on the 2nd ballot.

“Cutesy games will hand the thing to Hillary on a velvet pillow...”

Hillary will not be on the ballot in Nov.

My predication here for all to see, again, is that Trump will go over the top by June 8

Thanks for your reply.. I am no expert on the rules, and i understand how you can read 40-e to not allow for further nominations, but also I could see an argument on the other side because it does not expressly prohibit nominations before the subsequent roll calls either.

I guess Ryan himself would be the ultimate arbiter if additional 2nd ballot nominations are prohibited or not..

40-e "(e) If no candidate shall have received such majority, the chairman of the convention shall direct the roll of the states be called again and shall repeat the calling of the roll until a candidate shall have received a majority of the votes entitled to be cast in the convention. "

Please correct me where I'm wrong and I will recalculate.

Not wrong - but that won't stop Cruz from continuing to be the GOPe cat's paw and staying in for his own personal vendetta which will end up with Hillary in the WH.

That’s an interesting thought. Intriguing. With both Cruz and Kasich taking Soros money, I doubt Kasich would have the guts to go against Soros and side with Trump. I wish I were wrong, but I doubt it.

Cruz paid off Walker’s $750,000 campaign debt to gain his endorsement.

Then you are game challenged. This is the way it was designed to work. Trump the master games man should have known this. So how do you feel about the disaffected voters in winner take all states?

Ah, knew I hit a nerve. True, the race is not over yet and I agree with your statement, but to call us “Trump chumps” is pretty weak.

Trump chumps is tame compared to the names flung at the Cruz supporters. But I can call you a Hillary/GOPe supporter if you would prefer.

How many years are you willing to live under the rule of the left while you struggle to take control of the levers of power in the GOP?

You don't get it. The GOPe is the left. Lindsey Graham is Hillary Clinton. Trump has shown a way to beat the left, but for some reason you don't like it. I suppose you might believe the fabricated polls showing Hillary beating Trump.

Then again, how well do you think a chump nominee foisted on us by party insiders will do? I predict a massive Hillary landslide if there's a contested convention no matter who they nominate.

Most voters have entirely forgotten the sleazy world of insider politics you seem to have intimate knowledge of even exists. Dumbass rubes that they are they actually think that primary voters should choose the nominee. When they learn otherwise they will not be happy and your "soothing" turd sandwich will not be devoured with enthusiasm.

It's Trump or Hillary. Choose.

because it does not expressly prohibit nominations before the subsequent roll calls either.

The convention is run based on a combination of Roberts Rules of Order and the Rules of the House of Representatives. Normally in a rules based organization, you must have a rule to allow a specific action, not a rule to prohibit an action. Just from a practical standpoint, consider how many rules you would need to prohibit all possible actions. You could not find enough paper to print it.

Questions on parliamentary procedure are usually referred to a parliamentarian and if his ruling is not accepted, it goes to a vote of membership. Rarely is the parliamentarian questioned simply because they are so well versed in such matters.

It is unfortunate but nevertheless true that most individuals in media, especially blogs are either not well versed in the topic they are discussing or have an agenda to push. Ratings and clicks depend on keeping the pot stirred. Conspiracy theories are fun to discuss but seldom pan out.

The one thing that everyone in DC fears is being exposed for all the money they are paid under the table to vote for special interest groups pet projects. Look at Hastert. He was a high school wrestling coach/teacher before being elected. He was caught paying off those he molested as a pedophile and just one guy got some 1.7 million. There were more. Now, where do these elected clowns get millions in the bank on a retired teacher’s salary plus theirs? it doesn’t add up. Kasich filed taxes on 5-6 million last year. This should piss everyone off to vote for Trump to expose this crap. These jerks are all on the grease and that is why they do not work for us or for what is best for America. Cruz will do zip as he is on the grease. I am not talking about wildroot cream oil.

Choosing Trump is choosing Hilary. Trump will never, ever win a general election. You are all living in a fantasy world.

And there is nothing at all that is preventing the voters from choosing a nominee. All they have to do is provide one candidate with a majority of the delegates.

That this has not happened in this case is a testimony to just how bad a candidate Trump is.

That’s what it all boils down to.

There is the threat of Hillary/Bernie, or...

There is also the threat of the RNC/GOPe shoving Ted aside and installing one of their own.

Romney, Ryan, Kasick, Rubio... we just don’t know what will take place at the convention in this atmosphere.

Seeking an open convention, is tantamount to handing the nation’s future over to people who have openly expressed a desire to see Hillary elected rather than Trump.

How any good Conservative can support the goal of an open convention, knowing what we know, is beyond me.

I am left thinking that folks who want an open convention can only be RNC/GOPe fellow travelers.

I hate to say it because I once held some folks in high esteem that now are openly fronting for exactly what the RNC/GOPe has been wanting for months.
