Path to certain failure: NeverTrump + NeverCruz = NeverWin = LostSCOTUS = LostFreedom = LostNation

Posted on 04/13/2016 2:36:02 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Captain obvious here again, but NeverTrump/NeverCruz is not the way. We all have our favorites, but don't lose sight of the mission.

The mission on FR is to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our POSTERITY!!

It's a lot bigger than you or me or our personal opinions or egos. It's about the very survival of our nation and the promise of freedom for future generations.

Reagan said that freedom is never more than one generation from extinction and he was 100% correct.

President Clinton or President Sanders means the end of freedom in America.

Do not let freedom expire on our watch!!

Free Republic will support our Republican nominee whoever he is against the godless Marxist/socialist Democrats in November!!

[[I think we have been asked to tone down our advocacy for Cruz.]]

I missed that- were we? Not sure why that would be if trump truly has this ‘sewed up’?

You are so right. But surely he knows the antipathy the establishment holds for him and that they will not let him have the nomination. I wish I knew the reason he is hanging in - maybe he has been promised something, if not the nomination.

Unification needs to happen now so the consensus can be used to firm up the Senate which is also in jeapordy as we speak.
A Trumpor Cruz ticket needs a working coalition in Congress from the getgo to effectively reorganize government, appoint cabinet members and purge agencies.... Build the wall.
We cannot get THERE from where we are YET.
The sooner the better. Castration of the GOPe needs to be fait accompli by convention time.

It could very well be that a better approach to this election is to identify that Republican candidate who is least objectionable to the Republicans in order to garner the majority of independents.

How do you do that while retaining the loyalty of Cruz and Trump supporters, who constitute the vast majority of Republicans who have voted in the primaries?

You can't, so forget it. I will vote for any mangy mutt the GOPe nominates, even if it's not Cruz or Trump. But don't mistake that grudging effort for an endorsement. If the GOPe cheats the voters at the convention their chosen chump will lose the general election, barring some absolutely unprecedented bungling by Hillary or Bernie.

Agreed!
On FR, the person on the other side of the fence is probably a Conservative too.

Preaching to the Choir vastly superior to yelling at the Choir.

Ted Cruz’s only path to victory involves his very public and frequently gloated about deligate thieft from other canidates. Thanks to Cruz’s unsightly public behavior there’s very little chance Trump supporters would back him after a steal at the convention. If he’d done it quietly it wouldn’t have been an issue, but Cruz is such an attention seeking idiot and he’s doomed any chance of a Cruz victory in November.

If he had any poltical sense he’d drop out now and endorse Trump to heal the rift in the party.

And you think a convention controlled by establishment RINOS under establishment RINO rules (that can be manipulated at their will) will appoint a constitutional conservative that they absolutely hate to be their establishment RINO standard bearer? Cruz should team up with Trump to ensure this can never happen.

If the number of Trump loyalist delegates plus the number of Cruz loyalist delegates is greater than 1237, then the GOPe won't control the convention.

Agree with the sentiment, but then there’s realty. And one of the candidates is not living it.

Somebody please explain to me how Cruz can win FL and/or OH. Trump thumped him by over 1,000,000 votes, 600,000 in FL and 400,000 in OH. Those were not casual toss a coin votes for Trump, those were heart and soul votes.

Nobody is talking about this, but we can expect R’s to win red states, blues to win blue states, and then it comes down to FL, OH and probably VA. It doesn’t matter how much you like Cruz or dislike Trump or vice versa, voters by over a million already rejected Cruz in those states, it wasn’t close, and the only way to get Cruz the nomination is to boot Trump who will have in the 1100 delegates.

My heart and soul tells me Cruz knows his situation, and has an opportunity to do the right thing and unify us, the only question is, is he free enough from the GoPe and his money bundlers to do it, cause after Tues he can’t reach the finish line, and will need convention deals to do it, most likely destroying the Republican party and the Republic.

Six weeks ago I would have said yes, right now I’m not seeing it.

If there was only a small difference between Trump and Cruz, I could see the argument for Cruz uniting behind Trump. But there’s a big difference between the two. Cruz wants smaller government. Trump just wants to run it, and make it great. Trump criticized Scott Walker for cutting spending. That wasn’t years ago in some off-hand remark to Howard Stern, that was 3 weeks ago. You’re not going to get smaller government with Donald Trump.

I hate illegal immigration. If I thought for a second Trump would actually start deporting all the illegals leeching off the system, maybe I’d consider him. I don’t believe him. I actually trust Cruz more. At least he voted against the Gang of 8 bill.

The last betting market odds I saw had Cruz and Trump with about equal chances to get the nomination. The bookmakers almost always have it right, and I think they have it right this time. Cruz or Trump could be the nominee.

that doesn’t make sense. you want Cruz to drop out now to bulk up trump and I say no way.

they are both going into the convention with not enough votes and Cruz has the better chance of winning it. And he is smarter and a solid conservative. Trump blows with the wind

You got that right Jim.

It's too bad this generation doesn't understand (or respect) Article II, Section I, Clause V, as past generations did. Our country wouldn't be in nearly the mess it is.
