Path to certain failure: NeverTrump + NeverCruz = NeverWin = LostSCOTUS = LostFreedom = LostNation

Posted on 04/13/2016 2:36:02 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

Captain obvious here again, but NeverTrump/NeverCruz is not the way. We all have our favorites, but don't lose sight of the mission.

The mission on FR is to secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our POSTERITY!!

It's a lot bigger than you or me or our personal opinions or egos. It's about the very survival of our nation and the promise of freedom for future generations.

Reagan said that freedom is never more than one generation from extinction and he was 100% correct.

President Clinton or President Sanders means the end of freedom in America.

Do not let freedom expire on our watch!!

Free Republic will support our Republican nominee whoever he is against the godless Marxist/socialist Democrats in November!!

Whatever you think about Trump OR Cruz, you've got to admit that both have played their hand with extreme skill to get to this point.

I liken a contested convention to walking into a trap set by the jigsaw killer. Is the killer Cruz or the GOPe? That remains to be seen.

I know we may never see eye to eye on this point but I totally disagree that Cruz can’t get to 1237 and win it.

Just as JimRob said, that's an absolute delusional fantasy.

Furthermore, even if it did happen, that would be a slap in the face to the vast majority of GOP voters, who have shown the most enthusiasm and have showed up in the greatest numbers.

It's just ludicrous to think that Cruz could be a better choice than Trump.

Maybe disenfranchising the largest bloc of voters has worked in the past, but in this modern information age, that's just not going to happen.

Cruz supporters need to set down the crack pipe and deal with reality. This notion of Cruz cobbling together some group of delegates to win on the 2nd ballot, or even later, would hopelessly splinter the party.

The only sane thing to do will be to give the frontrunner the nomination, because he will have earned it, in the face of non-stop demonization by the GOPe, by getting the voters enthusiastic and turning them out in numbers far exceeding the second place candidate.

Let's not forget that the only thing that has blunted Trump's march to the nominatoin is the relentless smear campaign which has been conducted by the Left/Media/GOPe, and of course, the "me too" Cruz campaign.

JimRob is right: Ted Cruz is a traitor to the grass roots anti-establishment voters. He doesn't deserve the nomination, and he won't get it.

I predict that by the end of April, this reality will have gotten through the thick skulls of even the most die-hard Cruz fanboys.

It's time for Ted Cruz's supporters to wake up...

Amen.

I prefer Cruz, but I can totally live with and vote for Trump. He’s not my cup of tea, but he is far superior to the RINO we would have otherwise had shoved down our throats.

I hope my brethren on the other side can operate similarly.

> It does not matter what we think, I think we have been asked to tone down our advocacy for Cruz.

I don’t read it this way. If what everyone here did were to advocate their choice, then it would not be necessary to verbally assault each other. I much prefer the comments here that spell out why someone thinks their choice is right to lead the US, first in defeating the establishment from both the Right AND Left fields, and then in guiding policy to put the US back on track to growth, prosperity and security. But unfortunately what I read here most is why the other candidate and his supporters sucks eggs. Support your candidate. But unite behind the singular goal of blocking the establishment. #NeverE

I also say let it play out. But not past the point where the establishment can regain their grip. We have almost stopped GOPe. It is with our grasp. I hope more than anything we don’t all spoil the willingness to finish it. The GOPe is giddy about the prospect that the voters will not unite, and they will exploit any crack in unity they can. My guiding principle is that the RNC will gladly lose to the Left field and will do anything, especially lose, to keep Trump or Cruz from the nomination.

Because he has no path to winning honorably via we the voters. He’s hanging in there hoping the GOP establishment will anoint him at the convention over the guy who won the lion’s share of the votes, the lion’s share of the states and the lion’s share of the delegates. That’s no way to win, bro.

Are you saying that it's dishonorable for Cruz to work to win as many delegates as he can through traditional and legal methods at district & state caucuses?

Are you saying that it's dishonable for him to stay in because he can't win 1237 delegates before the first ballot?

Are you saying that it's dishonorable for him to force a contested convention by denying Trump 1237 delegates on the first ballot?

How will the GOPe annoint Cruz when Trump and Cruz control the vast majority of delegates? It's our elected delegates who will decide the nominee not the small fraction of GOPe delegates.

I don't understand what you think is dishonorable.

"he’d be splitting the party and destroying the nation for no reason whatsoever other than personal pride and ego"

Or Cruz could still be championing conservatism.

Let's say your original observation of Trump is correct: He's a populist.

When Trump shows up with a plurality of the vote, and Cruz is a strong second, Cruz could merely ask Trump:

"What's it worth to you today to have a coronation rather than a fight?"

And the answer is some agreement by Trump to Cruz for actions on behalf of conservatism. Some Supreme Court picks, pre-announced, for example.

It is not necessarily for ill that Cruz fights on, in my opinion.

Unfortunately, Cruz is still hysterically smearing Trump as violent. It really seems he does not want the support of Trumpers.

I disagree that Cruz could beat Hillary in the election, simply because if he could gather votes the way he will need to he would be ahead of Trump now. For some reason Cruz has a theoretical support that does not translate to votes.

If Cruz could get to 1237 he “might” be more electable than Trump, but the fact is he cannot.

If Cruz ends up being the nominee by some miracle of a brokered convention even many of those that would have voted for him in other circumstances will not because they will feel he did not win it honestly- whether it is all “by the rules” or not.

A brokered convention at this point will have a scorched earth effect. If Cruz emerges as the nominee he will be damaged goods at that point. If there is a brokered convention and Trump ends up being the nominee it will have a negative impact on him as well so there will be no true “winner” from that scenario.

This is why I say Cruz and his supporters need to be realistic about what they are fighting for at this point. It is short sighted for them to have the goal of a brokered convention. If they look long and hard at what the result of a brokered convention would really be, they would not want one.

At this point Cruz could still bow out gracefully and live to fight another day- another run at President would be realistic for him. If he fights to the bitter end I think he will lose more support than he would gain, which could very well end his political career.

Delegate = StrawMan = Govt Agent

Your vote means NOTHING unless Trump = 1237

StrawMan Govt Agent appoints NeverTrump & NeverCruz by fake rule number 76.8

Cruz voters might take Jim’s advice to NeverHillary

I believe Jim is simply saying that it is dishonorable to allow the establishment to win.

“And the answer is some agreement by Trump to Cruz for actions on behalf of conservatism. Some Supreme Court picks, pre-announced, for example.”

I like that. If Trump ends up the nominee, I’m going to have to think long and hard about whether to pull the Trump lever in November. If Trump pre-announced the Scalia replacement prior to the election, then I would feel much better about voting for him.

I don’t see that that is happening. I see Cruz fighting for delegates to force a contested convention, which is no different from what Reagan did.

No, I am not comparing Cruz to Reagan. I’m comparing strategies.

You’ll support someone who becomes the nominee dishonorably?

Because in #31 you say Cruz cannot get there honorably.

You might be right about scorched earth if Cruz wins. In 1952, Eisenhower had less delegates than Robert Taft at the convention, but the convention nominated Eisenhower. I’m sure the Taft people weren’t happy about it, but I don’t think they refused to support Eisenhower.

This year, I think the chances of Trump supporting Cruz if Cruz wins are zero. But why should I support Trump? About the only thing I agree him on is... well, nothing. I don’t believe him for a second on illegal immigration.

I’d love it if Cruz is the nominee, but there is no way he will be.

Well, there are a few people around here who keep quoting a comment from you where you said Cruz is a traitor. So it's good to get some clarification about that. Because when I hear you say "traitor," I think John McCain, John Kerry, etc.

But how exactly can he be?

So now you're saying he can't be the nominee. But if he is, you'll support him?

That is either not well thought out or it's dishonest.

I'm willing to believe it's the first, but you can't do both. You're not Bernie Sanders. LOL.
