The Donald Kneels to Political Correctness on Transgender Issues
PJ Media ^ | April 21, 2015 | Tyler O'Neil

Posted on 04/21/2016 7:13:56 PM PDT by Kaslin

On Thursday, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump took the liberal stance on transgender restroom access. Media outlets can call it "moderate" all they want, but it is inescapable that Trump defended biological men using women's restrooms. The Donald is not exactly hesitant to offend people, and transgressing political correctness has been one of the centerpieces of his campaign. He even declared in the past that he would protect Christians and social conservatives, but this acceptance of "transgender rights" may be a sign that he has started pandering to the "center" for the general election.

Conservatives have long warned that Trump is unpredictable, that he would make a horrible Republican standard bearer because he does not represent the classical issues of that party. Now it seems The Donald might be proving them right -- after most of the socially conservative voters in the South already backed the real estate tycoon.

Trump attacked the North Carolina law which reserved multiple-person restrooms in schools and government facilities to only those people of the appropriate biological sex. This law was intended to protect the privacy of girls and boys, men and women, but many companies attacked it as discriminatory. Rather than defending the law -- as those who find The Donald a champion of conservative or politically incorrect values might expect -- Trump trashed it.

"North Carolina did something that was very strong and they're paying a big price and there's a lot of problems," said Trump, who would have left things as they were. "There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate, there has been so little trouble."

This stance sounds moderate -- Trump is arguing that there should be no restrictions -- but in reality, it is a complete surrender to a small, vocal minority. If public restrooms must be one way or the other, why side with the infinitesimal minority of people who identify with the sex opposite the one they were born with, rather than the millions of men and women who are comfortable with their birth sex?

Why can we not have more single-serve, unisex restrooms, to avoid the issue entirely? Trump attacked the idea of separate transgender restrooms as a waste of money -- he's right -- but he did not address this solution, which many restaurants have already adopted.

In matter of fact, Trump is incorrect that there has been "so little trouble." Women who claim to have been abused as children are now vehemently opposing the opening of girls' and women's restrooms to biological men. When the New York Times attacked Americans concerned about this issue as effectively insane, controlled by "transgender bathroom hysteria," these disenfranchised people took to Twitter to express their outrage. Regardless of what Trump or the New York Times says, many Americans are concerned about this, and it's not just because of "transphobia."

Nevertheless, The Donald was quite explicit in his support for transgender access. He said that if Caitlyn Jenner (born Bruce Jenner) walked into Trump Tower, The Donald would let her use the restroom of her choice.

If @Caitlyn_Jenner walked into Trump Tower, what bathroom would @RealDonaldTrump suggest she use? #TrumpTODAY https://t.co/E6jLyif6ls

— TODAY (@TODAYshow) April 21, 2016

The Federalist's Ben Domenech once explained why social conservatives in the South might back Donald Trump. Domenech said these voters "have no illusions about [Trump's] unbelief. The difference is that while they believe Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio would be one more round of good soldiers for their cause, they think Donald Trump would be a tank."

But when it comes to actually fighting for conservative values, Trump ends up on the other side. Indeed, in a classic battle involving political correctness, he falls neatly in line. The Donald might not be a tank, but rather a Trojan horse.

Geez, it was a Matt "Liar" Lauer Trump trap.

Lauer "trapped" Trump into revealing what he really thinks?

As far as I know, there is no relationship between pedophiles and transsexuals. And pedophiles can be male or female.

You are using an extremely case to rule out special situations.

If we go down that path, you should never let your daughter or wife out of the house. After all, it’s possible she could be attacked at the mall.

Keep in mind he still thinks like a CEO and he does have major investments in NC and other places where this issue is being played out.

I wonder if privately he really feels that way given his kids and grandkids?

My view is that he should give bland answers and try to avoid some of the Social Issues at all costs, stay on main message.

You are being silly again. Trump did not throw a “fire bomb” nor was he insulting to anyone in his off the cuff comment. If Hillary or the Democrats win because we can’t get our act together on our side, then the future you are fearing will become reality. Trump is the presumptive nominee warts and all. Cruz is only helping the Democrats by not accepting this reality and encouraging others to keep fighting each other. It is simplistic because the message is simple. 20% more people have already participated in the primary process on the Republican side. If we unite we win; if we divide we fail. The cost of failure would be devastating beyond even your imagination.

That there are exactly two sexes and that they aren’t determined by how you feel when you wake up in the morning.
..........................................................
That I will agree with. HOWEVER, it appears the Supreme Court doesn’t hold that scientific principle as valid and have ruled otherwise.
There are issues to be dealt with which are more pressing at this time in order to save America. Our economy, our open borders, our defense, deserve our IMMEDIATE attention. Social battles MUST be put on the back burner at this time. The ONLY one who has the knowledge and innate tools to solve these problems is Donald Trump! FACT! Deal with it!

We already have an idiot in the White House who never even ran a lemonade stand. Cruz is no better!

Have you ever been in a public male restroom where there's a female cleaning the toilets while man are using the urinal?

I see it occasionally in the U.S., but I believe it's fairly common in other cultures.

The idea is not to eliminate male and female differences but to leave some room for some exceptions -- and not to notice so much.

I used to live in Japan, one of the most civil countries in the world. And on Japanese TV there are several transvestites and/or transsexuals who are celebrities in that country. They appear as singers, comedians, or TV personalities. And people think nothing of it. The rules of society are not meant to be so rigid.

And let's even leave a little wiggle room for consistent conservatives to be a bit weird and to sin on occasion.

No, I don’t urinate while women mop the floor next to me, nor do I expect women to tinkle while a male janitor changes their toilet paper out.

If that is your expectation, then why even have separate toilets at all?

If personal rights during our daily activities are to be put on the backburner, as you suggest, why did Trump pull them out to the front burner and excoriate conservatives over them?

Spin yourself to death over an issue that is far less important than saving our economy, building jobs, paying our bills with OUR money instead of borrowed money, rebuilding our armed forces, and STOPPING the war on our SOVEREIGNTY!
I do not care what you hold as most important.

I wasn’t stating that yesterday’s comments were a firebomb, I was stating that that he has thrown many firebombs over the last few months.

Point being that if Trump expects my support, he should at a minimum stop insulting me. I believe in inalienable rights and certain principles that I am not going to wave in order to make Trump more palatable. I will vote for Trump over Hillary, but I’m not about to sell my soul to do it.

I can vote for him and be less than happy with him at the same time. I don’t feel obliged to give my fidelity and devotion to any candidate. I will vote to get results, when the candidate fails to support the ideology outlined in our founding documents I will attack them for it.

I expect Trump to be the nominee. If elected, I expect Trump to renege on many of the positions that his supporters are counting on. The facts in evidence suggest that will be the case. A large number of people will then feel like chumps. I will not be one of them.

Reread my post, you obviously didn't understand it.

Whether a man entering a girls restroom is transsexual or a pedophile doesn't matter, as long as the pedophile says that they are a transsexual they are both equally protected. There is no other requirement.

Under the human rights statutes being enforced in states such as Illinois, there is absolutely no legal method by which you can remove any man from a woman's restroom, locker room, shower, dressing room, etc. based solely on his being a male, as long as he says the magic words, “Today I'm identifying as a woman”.

There is also the matter of transsexuals who have not anatomically altered themselves. Should they have a legally protected right to nude up in front of women and girls?

You state that this is a “special situation”. I concur, there are not very many transsexuals and if they are discrete, they can get by without causing waves. However, once provided the right to not be discrete, it is no longer a non-issue.

and you are dishonest. The laws on exposing yourself, voyeurism, etc still exist and apply.

So perverts do not have and have not had a free pass to ply their sickness.

A nothing burger hoping to swing Indiana as part of #neverTrump but its failing. Cruz had to deceptively add to what Trump said.

It is interesting then that you choose to put your faith in a man who makes misleading statements on a daily basis and who has a long history of reneging on his word. Nearly everyone on this forum has views that are very close to Cruz's stated positions. The problem is that his actions have spoken louder than his words and have alienated most of us. Nearly 9 out of 10 of us no longer trust Cruz. Are the “chumps” those of us who refuse to accept lies over and over again or are the true believers the “chumps”.

Trump is a successful businessman. Before I was hired by a fire department I came from a small business background. The people that I knew who were successful small businessmen kept their word. The reason they were successful is that people trusted them and chose to continue to do business with them. Businessmen tend to be much more honest than lawyers and politicians. Lawyers and politicians have a reputation for saying anything to win. Ted Cruz has more than lived up to this reputation during this election season.

You might want to carefully reconsider who is more likely to renege on his word if elected.

How would prevent a voyeur from hanging out in the ladies room, dressing room, locker room, etc., when he replies with, “it’s OK, I’m transsexual.”?

How has it worked since the beginning of time? People who cross dressed and convincingly looked like the opposite sex were discrete and got away with it without causing a ruckus. It fell into the arena of what you don’t know won’t hurt you.

With the new round of transsexual rights assertions, the historical limits have been removed. The societal pressure to be discrete is forcibly suppressed. That is what the NC law was reacting to.

Again, I'm not sure where the presumption comes from that I think Cruz (or any other person) is a perfect candidate and that Trump stands out as the worst.

Before any of this started I had a list of positives and negatives on every candidate in the Republican field, Cruz being no exception.

What astounds me about most Trump support is that it comes off as blind loyalty, with very malleable personal convictions that can change daily in order to align behind the candidate. He is thought of as a champion and any negative brought against him is treated as heresy, and every perceived challenger is evil incarnate.

If someone says, "Trump is a pompous, arrogant guy, but I think he's pragmatically the best choice." Then I'm all ears. I know that the person is at least not blind to reality. In general I put my trust in ideology, not politicians (and everyone in public office is a politician). People always disappoint.

Your response sounds logical. Thanks.

As I said, I'm certainly not in favor of perverts wearing a dress so they can spy on women in the bathroom.

So, the NC state law was a response to a city ordinance essentially saying "no holds barred?" I guess I understand now.

I still think the state law, while no doubt well intended, opens up a whole new can of worms. No pun intended.

I believe it was a mistake by Trump. But not one that would my mind. Unlike the GOP who the power to affect change, has no power to change.

Thank you for the conversation.

The birth certificate was likely not the way to go. However, enforcement essentially rests on self-incrimination, which puts the onus back on transsexuals to simply be discrete.

If a person who looks like a woman uses the ladies room, no one gives a hoot, but keep the junk to yourself. Likewise if a creeper walks into the ladies locker room at the gym (with or without a skirt), he can still be tossed out without the tosser being charged as a human rights violator.

Get over it.

We get a wall, we get a loud and proud STOP to the “fundamental transformation of our population”, we get a HALT to “refugee policy” filled with ISIS type infiltration, we get a FORCE, finally, in the drivers seat economically, with trade deals that make America Great Again, we get an all American MAN, at last, who doesn’t dig the Cruz BS, legalese-speak, and endless needle threading on every jot and tiddle of all the above.

Socially, we get a conservative Supreme Court as opposed to Cruz taste in liberals like John Roberts.

Cruz is busTED on Supreme Court picks, pathway to legalization, the North American Union, and is a collapse on Trade, with the TPA crap that TRUMP deplores on every front.

Cruz is toasTED.

That's not true in many states now, Illinois for instance. When transsexuals are specifically protected by law then the burden is on the individual, business, state to prove that an individual is not a transsexual. As transsexual identification is completely up to each individual, it is impossible to prove someone is not, who states that they are. It is like trying to prove that a person doesn't like ice cream.

That is like saying that people who voice a need for things are no longer to be charged with their theft, but that you still have laws against theft, so its not a problem.

You would do well to read my other posts.
