A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day 07-25-02

A Few of FR's Finest.....
......Every Day

FR is a Treasure Trove of talented, compassionate, patriotic, wonderful people who gather every day to discuss the latest news and issues;  salute
and support our military and our leaders;  tell a few jokes;  learn a new
word;  write poetry;  pray for those in need;  and congratulate those who
are deserving. Thank you, Jim Robinson, for giving us the vehicle in which
we can express ourselves.

Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.  I
can remember lurking when there were only a few regulars who posted, and now there are over 60,000 who have registered for posting privileges. The forum is read daily by tens of thousands
of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.

A Few of FR's Finest November 11, 2001

So many people have written me since my original Veteran's Day Tribute, asking how they, or a loved one, could be included in that tribute. Since I can no longer add the photos to the body of the thread, I've been including them in additional posts as I received enough to make another collage.

Still that doesn't seem to be enough. I think there's never been a better nor more appropriate time to keep the faces of our own Veterans and Active Military in front of FReepers--every day! That's why I wanted to do yet another Daily Thread .....ABOUT FReepers .....and FOR FReepers. But not only about our Military FReepers; for all FReepers! Wouldn't it be nice to get to know a few of the other FReepers as well? That's why, in addition to seeing FR's Finest Military Personnel every day, I thought it might be fun to feature a different FReeper (or FReepers) each day. If you would like to be pictured, or know someone who would, please FReepmail me and we'll turn the spotlight - on YOU - for the day!

And do let me know if you'd like your picture added to the groups of Veterans/Active Military below. I will keep this page updated, and continue to add them to the comment section of the original Veteran's Day thread as well.

The
Accidental
Tourist

He's Everywhere!   He's Everywhere!

Lowbridge

FReeper since 02-12-99

It's all Lowbridge's fault!  All of a sudden, after 911, when that photo of him standing at the top of the Trade Center first appeared, we were seeing the Tourist Guy everywhere!  Lowbridge, who is one of FR's most creative photo manipulators, began to insert Tourist Guy's photo in the most outlandish places.  Soon he created a whole web site with this accidental tourist appearing in places one could only dream about!
One look at Lowbridge' Profile Page and I knew there was no way I could summarize in just two or three paragraphs his commitment to FReeRepublic, FReeRepublic-related activities and organizations, and FREEPERS in general!  This New Yorker is almost like the Tourist Guy;  he's everywhere, he's everywhere!  I urge all of you to take a look at his profile page, check out some of his links, and also see some of the ways he's taken FReeper's heads and morphed them into movie posters and promos. Two of my personal favorites are pictured here.   Click on the thumbnails to see them full-size.
A few things about our FReeper of the Day that I'd like to point out:

Lowbridge is a big supporter and promoter of AnnaZ and Mercuria's FR radio program  UNSPUN the website He organized and hosted the FReeper Bus Trip to Albany.  He has created a parody of Democratic Underground.  He is a chapter leader of the FRee Republic Second Amendment Task Force.  Many of you met Lowbridge in Washington D.C. for the FReeper Inaugural Ball;   he attended The anti-United Nations Rally last July, and in August, he got to spend some quality time with some of his favorite people in California. I would be remiss if I didn't include a link to that thread, where such good memories were made:   California Memories

Thank you, Lowbridge!
You ARE one of FR's Finest!

Stay with this one:

21st CENTURY TEACHER APPLICANT

Let me see if I've got this right. You want me to go into that room with all those kids and fill their every waking moment with a love for learning. Not only that, I'm supposed to instill a sense of pride in their ethnicity, behaviorally modify disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse and T-shirt messages.

I am to fight the war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, check their backpacks for guns and raise their self-esteem. I'm to teach them patriotism, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, how and where to register to vote, how to balance a checkbook and how to apply for a job.

I am to check their heads occasionally for lice, maintain a safe environment, recognize signs of potential antisocial behavior, offer advice, write letters of recommendation for student employment and scholarships, encourage respect for the cultural diversity of others, and, oh yeah, always make sure that I give the girls in my class 50 percent of my attention.

I'm required by my contract to be working on my own time summer and evenings at my own expense toward advance certification and a master's degree; and after school, I am to attend committee and faculty meetings and participate in staff development training to maintain my employment status.

I am to be a paragon of virtue larger than life, such that my very presence will awe my students into being obedient and respectful of authority. I am to pledge allegiance to supporting family values, a return to the basics, and to my current administration. I am to incorporate technology into the learning, and monitor all Web sites while providing a personal relationship with each student. I am to decide who might be potentially dangerous and/or liable to commit crimes in school or who is possibly being abused, and I can be sent to jail for not mentioning these suspicions.

I am to make sure all students pass the state and federally mandated testing and all classes, whether or not they attend school on a regular basis or complete any of the work assigned. Plus, I am expected to make sure that all of the students with handicaps are guaranteed a free and equal education, regardless of their mental or physical handicap. I am to communicate frequently with each student's parent by letter, phone, newsletter and grade card.

I'm to do all of this with just a piece of chalk, a computer, a few books, a bulletin board, a 45 minute more-or-less plan time and a big smile, all on a starting salary that qualifies my family for food stamps in many states. Is that all? And you want me to do all of this and expect me

NOT TO PRAY?

Ugh - thanks for reminding me - how bad it was 20+ years ago as a teacher (from which ranks I left after only 6 years) ---- and for telling the truth about how bad it is now...... for teachers!!! Double ugh.

Indeed. Any teacher today unarnmed by prayer is in heap big trouble. No wonder the teacher shortages are what they are. Pity the poor children - because who, then, is left to venture forth into today's public school classroom????? Scarey thought.

That haddock looks good but I sure wouldn't want to have slave over a hot stove today. Over 90 degrees here. I picked up a ready roasted chicken from Costco for our dinner.....
