Hey, I need unity here.
You people who are watching need to get your stories straight.
Is it a brilliant apology, answering all concerns and completely disarming the enemy?
Or is it some limp blathering by a gifted limp blatherer?

I'm in the "heart of Dixie" also and I've NEVER been a racist. So shut the hell up about what you "know" about the south! You don't know anything about me or my family. We do fine without some "leader" coming in and trying to start a race war (Jesse Jackson, Maxine Waters, Al Sharpton, et al, came into our state and used the James Byrd dragging death to elect RATS). We ALL get along just fine without being told how to treat our neighbors, friends and customers!

You think a BET interview will make everything OK? Not a
chance in hell. Not with Lott doing the selling.

"I think Trent fell on a sward for the party." Interesting...we'll have to wait and see.

Knowing the principal character involved, I know which ones I tend towards believing...

Does Rove like Lott?
To: altura
I think the heckling by the guy who said he was Shapron's lackey near the end made Lott look better.
To: sinkspur
Nope... but he should step down because he has continued to exercise bad judgement. Hmmm... let's see:
Exhibit A - This last faux pas (and just weeks after the big election). DUH!!!
Exhibit B - The power sharing deal. Man what a dump idea?
Exhibit C - Letting Clinton skate. He had no spine... dumb move. The dems already hate pubbies and those pubbies that are actually conservative couldn't stand Lott after that.
Is that enough?

"I swear they are going to roll him. "
Not if we stay on him constantly. Since he has already been elected Majority Leader of the incoming Congress can Repubicans challnge his position ?

Major sucking up to the very people who are asking for his head. I am NOT happy about this. My sentiments exactly. That whole press conference was an embarrassment. I could barely stand to listen.

Sheets *was* Majority Leader in the Senate Yes, and there's a good reason he no longer holds that office.
and is constantly gushingly referred to as "The Conscience of the Senate."
Liberal bias is a given. No point in dwelling on it.
Sheets was also President Pro Tempore of the Senate for the past year and a half.
As I understand it, this title traditionally goes to the longest serving member of the majority party, and is politically insignificant unless the Pres, VP, and Speaker of the House die simultaneously.

As much as I'd like to see Lott replaced as Majority Leader, the controversy over this statement shouldn't be the thing that ousts him.
All due respect, but this smacks too much of the old liberal shibboleth that "Clinton's enemies couldn't get him on Whitewater, so they're trying to bust him on Monica". People on FR, if not elsewhere, understood that Monica, Whitewater, Waco, etc. were simply different facets of the consequences of having a horror that was a sociopathic President. It never should have surprised anyone that with lying about real estate deals comes lying about adultery.
Likewise, only naive ones would think that lousy, quisling-like "leadership" of the GOP caucus and putting your foot in your mouth big time aren't just different sides of the same counterfeit coin.
To: jbind
"You can be sure Rove wrote his speech." I do believe you are right, friend. And, a good speech it was.
To: Nita Nuprez
Speaker... Majority Leader... whatever. I'm so mad at him right now I could chew nails.
To: xlib
What about KKK Byrd? He is called the "conscience of the senate" for crying out loud!!! What a damn joke!

"why isn't THURMOND HIMSELF being raked over the coals...???"Because they're after the president...already demanding that President Bush come out with a statement as to why it "took him so long" to respond to Lott's comments at Thurmond's party.
To: Darlin'
Since he has already been elected Majority Leader of the incoming Congress can Repubicans challnge his position ? Of course.
Caucus. Vote. Move on.
It's that simple.
To: All
The man should have been ousted just for wearing the "roomy in the butt" jeans and that stupid cowboy hat with the feather at Bush's ranch.
He looked like a drag queen's vision of John Wayne.

So shut the hell up about what you "know" about the south! Sorry, I've never claimed to "know" anything about the South. My post was a direct copy and paste from Andrew Sullivan, who was himself quoting from a liberal blogger. But if Trent is genuinely "good friends" with a vocal, committed segregationist you can bet your ass I'm going to continue to tell my Senators to NOT support him as Majority Leader. Whether or not he remains a Senator is up to you folks in Mississippi.
