The petition reads:
Recent comments by Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) involving Senator Strom Thurmond's 1948 presidential candidacy supporting segregation have created a controversy that may force the Senator to step aside as leader of the Senate Republicans. This petition asks that the same standards be applied to Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) ,who is the current President pro tempore of the US Senate, and demands that he resign from any leadership post in the 108th Congress for saying the following racist comments on National television 21 months ago. "My old mom told me, 'Robert, you can't go to heaven if you hate anybody.' We practice that," the senator recalled. "There are white niggers. I've seen a lot of white niggers in my time-I'm going to use that word."
America does not need to have a Senator like Robert Byrd as a leader in the US Senate or even as the Ranking member of a committee.

Exactly. If these people were truly offended enough at Byrds comments to sign a petition, they should have done so at the time he made them.

Bringing it up to point out the total hyopocrisy of Democrats and liberals is fine and totally appropriate.
But I'm not going to sign petition, that is several months late and for this transparent purpose.

As much as I hate that pussy Lott and would love to see his dishrag ass replaced, I think a stroke of genius would be to have the Republicans vote him out of leadership, plus censure all racist comment....only don't mention Lotts name alone, just that the Republicans will vote to to Censor all racist comments. Then on the day of the censure vote, mention Lotts name then Byrds name and his comments and then Kerrys name and his comments; stating that intolerance of anyones race or ethnicity through comments or even off color jokes will not be tolerated. Put it up for a full Senate vote and trap the Democraps. They won't vote against their own, then you expose the true party of bigots and humiliate them for all to see!
