LA HABRA -- Antiwar protesters burned and ripped up flags, flowers and patriotic signs at a Sept. 11 memorial that residents erected on a fence along Whittier Boulevard days after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and have maintained ever since.

However, although officers witnessed the vandalism Saturday afternoon, police did not arrest three people seen damaging the display because they were "exercising the same freedom of speech that the people who put up the flags were,' La Habra Police Capt. John Rees said Monday.

"For this to be vandalism, there had to be an ill-will intent,' he said.

Only real question is, what has the local police done to prevent criminal mischief to a memorial?

Isn't this the same RV America that typically flies a 50 ft American flag,...(or larger)?

Imagine what would be said if this had happened to a Jewish Synagogue or Islamic Center in Wilshire/Santa Monica.

I totally agree with you about humor and conservatives needing it to enjoy life. (we don't wring our hands like the other side to revel in our own misery.)

My main point in writing you (and A CA Guy) about not trying to be funny is that is that this "Joe Hadenuf" is being a complete prick! Holy Cow I wouldn't normally say that, but I can't believe how he hatefully attacks a number of people on here diplomatically trying to agree with him.

However, this situation mentioned in this article makes me sick. And the police in that town are cowards. If I lived anywhere near there, I would ship cans of yellow paint to the cowardly bastards, advising them that yellow-bellied cowards need to repaint their squad cars accordingly. And in the box, with each can, a list of the 3000 names that died on 9-11 AND the name of each CMOH recepient. Damn those cowardly cops to hell. Screw the city and the attorneys. Principle must take a stand or we are no better than mexico.

I'd like to think its more, what the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV, refers to as Paranoid Schizophrenia, but yeah, at least on some base level they understand that the majority would look at this as a negative and you could say they have a guilty conscience.

I don't think Joe is a bad guy, he is just taking offense of anybody noticing the place is becoming over-run with illegals. I wouldn't like to hear that about my home either, but in his case it is true.
He can live in a very nice house just north of there, but very quickly south the place turns into a version of Mexico.

Report from La Habra

I was just up there Trace was being interview by MSNBC there was about thirty people (all pro American) there

After the interview, people were still standing around talking when this really nutty liberal women wearing pink chiffon shows up and goes up to Tracy and tells her “I guess you didn’t like my sign I glued on yours”

Then nutty liberal women in pink started arguing with the crowd spouting your typical liberal stuff in an incoherent manner “ America’s all about greed., “all you people just want to do stab people with your gun”(Her quote) and how sad we were and she had the right to free speech when put her anti war poster over our stuff

The crowd was angry but was trying to reason with nutty liberal women in pink that the display was on private property and that we had a right to post our opinion in our property and she had a right to post her opinion on her property

The crowd also informed her it was a 911 memorial and not a pro war display nutty liberal women in pink didn’t seem to understand the difference

Then nutty liberal women in pink let it slip out that she had been one of the one to destroy the display and had burned two of the flags

Tracy (the 911 display lady) was getting very hot with nutty liberal women in pink

Then nutty liberal women in pink started poking an pushing people to make her point... at this point the cops show up

Nutty liberal women in pink admit to the cops she had been one of the one to destroy the display and had burned the flags so the cops take away

A bout that time more news crews show up (local ABC & FOX)

So if you see a great big one arm guy in a blue shirt on TV than me Tophat

PS The local Starbuck up the street was giving out free coffee to any one comming in an saying "God bless America" .. so good for Starbuck

I know La Habra intimately. Also am quite familiar with their cops.
They are mostly great at giving traffic tickets.

I doubt a cop really witnessed this as the story reported.
We have such a big issue around any fire in this state that the burning of a flag alone would have gotten the cop involved there.

That part of the article did not seem typical for a La Habra cop.

I've met and talked with a few of the cops at the La Habra Corn festival and various places out that way I eat at. They are mostly regular people and conservative. At a minimum they would take names if witnesses by them.

You are mistaking Humboldt State U (but not the outlying areas) LA and SF for all of the state. The inland counties, farm country and Orange and San Diego counties are VERY conservative. The LA & SF loons get all the national attention.

Thank you. I emailed Tracey and offered any help that they need. I flew a flag continuously from 9-11-01 to 9-11-02 and then took it down at sundown on the one-year anniversary. I offered that flag to them. I hope they accept it.
