Democrats said that when Democrat Bill Clinton was president, [A] Republicans blocked many nominees without resorting to a filibuster by invoking a rule that let one senator put an indefinite hold on nominations. They noted that [B] the Senate has confirmed all but three of Mr. Bush's 119 judicial nominees.

I bet that "A" & "B" is not true or is a distortion. Does anyone have the scoop on these statements ?

Fine. Let them filibuster. Just make them do it 24/7. This filibuster "lite" that the GOP is letting the dems get away with isn't working. Nobody is noticing. I want to see bobby byrd reading from the frickin' phone book!

Many Senate Democrats wanted to filibuster against Mr. Sutton, too, Mr. Daschle said, "but we want to be selective. ... I don't want to abuse the practice of filibusters."

Daschle means, we're only going to filibuster people like Hispanics and women, because we would have a harder time opposing their appointment to the Supreme Court.

President Bush is way ahead of the democrats. He will flood them with nominees. If they confirm no one, they will be in big trouble in the 2004 elections for irresponsible obstructionism. If they confirm only white males on the idea that women and hispanics would be tough to oppose for the US Supreme Court, that looks terrible too. If they confirm some, while obstructing others who have equally good or better credentials, they also take a hit. Consider the 2004 elections: Bush and the Senate Republicans go into it with strong national security credentials, advocacy of tax cuts, reform of social security, all winners. Democrats go in having obstructed all of them, and no other issue to offer.

Ok a statement I heard was that they were afraid that Justice Owen would base decisions on her opinions and not Law?

Does that not contridict the opposition of the Estrada nomination, because they want to know what his opinion on things are and he says he won't give them because he bases his decision on law and precident..

The DemocRATS are talking out of both sides of thier mouths...

It's past time to begin playing hardball. Bush needs to make several recess-appointments the next time congress goes out of town. This should be enough to get the Senate to outlaw fillibusters on judicial appointments.

"Her record on the Texas Supreme Court is one of activism and hostility to civil rights," said Sen. Edward Kennedy, Duh-Mass.

The problem with this whole picture is the politicization (word?) of the judiciary. Our Founding Fathers warned us. The Democrats are openly opposing judges simply because they don't agree with their views. They offer no support for their charge of activism because they can find no justification for saying these judges haven't applied the law--as is their job.

In the case mentioned above, Justice Owen correctly applied the appropriate statutes and settled the dispute. That's her job. The Democrats are taking her ruling to say that she is for one side or against the other. If that were true of ANY judge, they should be taken out back and hanged!

If a judge is anti-homeless, anti-homosexual, anti-tax cut, pro-business, anti-America... what does it matter? As long as they apply the law. Show me a case where a judge legislates from the bench or does not apply law and precedent to their decisions and I'll say you've found an unqualified judge.

I'm thinking a good ole' fashioned fillibuster would be a grand idea. No breaks. No time-outs. No senatorial pampering. Just let the dems talk on and on and on. The more the talk the crazier they sound.

Moreover, Republicans, show some hard core muscle. Bring in popcorn, sodas, snacks, and chew and smack your lips loudly, this ought to be one of the best big time shows ever presented by a troupe of hapless braying stubborn jackasses who still haven't gotten the message that President Bush Rocks!!
