Hillary's 'History' Not America's History to be sure. Senator says best seller, big crowds at signings reflect political malaise
By TERESA K. WEAVER Atlanta Journal-Constitution Staff Writer
JUSTIN SULLIVAN / Getty Images U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) smiles as she signs copies of her memoir, 'Living History' at 'A Clean Well-Lighted Place For Books' bookstore in San Francisco.
MEET THE AUTHOR Hillary Rodham Clinton will sign "Living History" at 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday at Barnes & Noble, Buckhead. 2900 Peachtree Road, 404-261-7747. (There's a limit of two books per customer for signing. She will not personalize any books or sign any other memorabilia. And no photos.) More Books
U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's juggernaut of a memoir, "Living History," sold a million copies in its first month in stores and continues to sell at a clip of about 50,000 books a week. By September, Clinton will have covered her nearly unprecedented advance of $8.1 million and will begin receiving royalties -- a little over $4 per book sold.
When Simon & Schuster paid that advance for the former first lady's memoir, it seemed like a risky gamble. Political memoirs -- even critically acclaimed ones -- are not typically moneymakers. For some perspective, consider that Clinton's sales have already nearly doubled those of "Barbara Bush: A Memoir" (1994) and more than tripled the sales of Nancy Reagan's memoir, "My Turn" (1991).
"Living History" has far outpaced U.S. Sen. John McCain's memoir "Faith of My Fathers" (1999) and is closing in quickly on "My American Journey" by Gen. Colin Powell, which has 1.6 million hardback copies in print after eight years. Like the secretary of state's book, Clinton's has fueled speculation of a presidential run, either in 2004 or 2008. Former President Bill Clinton's wife insists that's "not in the cards," but she does see something positively political in the crowds of up to 2,000 people who have given her rock-star receptions at book-signings across the country.

I stopped by Hillary's book signing today at lunch. I couldn't get out of work today but Freepers need support! And yes, I have a job, thank you. (a driver told us to get one!) I work just down the street so I decided to take a friend from work who is "The Tominator" on Slate, (not all Slate posters are Lib's!) He jibes the Lib's there and has lots of fun poking the bear. We went to Moe's across the street for some of my favorite - Mexican food. You know, the place where they named a dish "The other Lewinski." We watched the show while we ate. As we were driving up we saw the crowd that had been building up since last night. I couldn't help noticing that 95% of them were women. Some obiously the Femi-Nazi variety. There were at least a couple of hundred in a line that went for a couple of blocks. At the intersection of Peachtree Rd. and Peachtree Dr we crossed the street. Cops were everywhere blocking parking at the Publix center where B&N is located. When we crossed the street, the media was interviewing the Freepers and had their cameras set up a while. I took some pictures with my digital camera and I would love to post them but I don't have a site where I can put them. Somebody please freepmail me with and place where I can stuff them fro all to see. It looked like a lot of fun and I didn't see any animosity toward the Freepers. To the contrary, there were more than a few honks and thumbs-up's from drivers.

Couldn't make it iether. First day of school here in Atlanta!
Heard a report on the radio that it was a mob scene for Hillary and about 10 protestors showed up. At least they gave both sides a soundbite. Did any of you Freepers talk to WGST?
To: Republican Red
I haven't seen anything from the media yet.
I didn't participate as much as I wanted to, but I do have seven pictures.
When we first drove by the crowd was hugh. Just during the time we ate lunch, it dwindled down to maybe a hundred max. She must have signed them with her own personal rubber stamp. There was a whole circus atmosphere there. If Hillary gets the impression that everybody around there are supporters, she is saddly (?) mistaken. again
Best wishes in your school. I hope it's a good year for you.

She's probably got her fair share of femi-nazi types at these gatherings, but my sneaking suspicion is, by and large (no pun intended), most of the women going ga ga over her are the same type that think Oprah is some sort of god/spiritual guru. Ignorant women who vote are going to be the death of this country.

Yeah, one of the local Freepers was on WGST this morning around 7:50 am talking about the protest. I can't remember who it was exactly.

I was interviewed by WSB this AM at 7:50, and we talked to a pile of media folks, including WGST. Kimmer even stopped by to say "hi" so us and give a "Semper Fi".
