For two thousand years, he has been worshiped and adored. Multitudes look to him each day. And yet nobody really knows the face of Jesus. That has not stopped humanity's imagination, or its yearning to draw Jesus as close as possible. So when this Christmas season brought a torrent of debate over whether Jesus was a white man, it struck a sacred nerve.
"That statement carries a whole lot of baggage," said Rockwell Dillaman, pastor of the Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh. "Political baggage, spiritual baggage, emotional baggage. Especially in a culture like ours where the relations of white people to other ethnicities has often been marked by injustice and distrust."
Why should we even care what Jesus looked like? If his message is God and love, isn't his race irrelevant? Some say God wanted it that way, since there are no references to Jesus' earthly appearance in the Bible. #But the debate was a reminder of just how difficult it is for anyone to transcend race even a historical figure widely considered to be beyond human.
"I find it fascinating that that's what people really want to know what race was Jesus. That says a lot about us, about Americans today," said Edward Blum, co-author of "The Color of Christ: The Son of God and the Saga of Race in America..."

where did you get the moon pic and the Peru pic?
Don’t blame me...that was what they came up with a few years back.
I thought it was insulting, myself.
That dude looked like a mouth breathing cave man.
[I’m sure some agenda was afoot]
The Mary I saw looked like Donna Reed.
Not very likely.
Or A GEICO commercial.
;]
No he looked just like Jeffrey Hunter, or was it Max Von Sydow? No, he looked just like Jim Caviezel. As far as what race he was, well since he was also God, his race was the Human Race.
How weird is it that I thought it dove-tailed with *this* thread?
[I’m getting entirely too free form for my own good]
Merry Christmas!
Those pics look like pancakes with eggs on top.
Judah was the son of Jacob who was the son of Issac who was the son of David who was the son of Abraham if I am reading Matthew 1 correctly.
TEDDY NEELY.
/ends dispute forver
;]
How would it dove-tail?
(I gotta hear this explanation!)
Like...
“I just keep posting the obvious that wasn’t created by nature.”
Divine conception versus natural genetics.
I totally blipped out the ‘moon’ bit.
[seriously..you do not want to delve further into how my mind ‘works’ with ‘association’...it’s dark in there and spiders abound]
;D
That image always give me goosebumps.
Thank you. I read the Luke 3 and it appears to be the lineage of Joseph as well. I have never read in the bible any lineage of the women. It is always father to son.
Humanly speaking, as has already been pointed out, the Bible says He is of the lineage of David. Both the lineage of Mary and even Joseph’s (His stepfather) traces back to David - of the tribe of Judah.
He is as Jewish as one can get, in human terms. Of course in Heavenly terms He is God in the flesh (that happened to be Jewish flesh).
Yup, love that photo, where is his horned helmet, and huge sledge hammer? He looks like a son of Odin. Heeey, wait a minute............. A blonde Mary too? A Viking maiden? Their ships did sail into the Mediterranean, maybe far earlier than we thought. :o)
Same here, especially after seeing the "Shroud of Turin" documentary where they put a 3-D face to the imprint. It made me cry.
I believe that deep down in the human heart there is a recognition of the physical Jesus, The Messiah, the Son of God.
He would look more like His mother.
