The Neverending Story
An ongoing debate on Scripture, Tradition, History and Interpretation.

Statesmen may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free constitution is pure virtue. - John Adams

(Reggie) Is prostrating yourself at a persons feet, a statues feet, anythings feet, "kneeling" to you?

(AC) No - when do Catholics prostrate ourselves at a person's feet, a statue's feet or anything's feet? Sources please.

On September 23, at the end of the Mass on the Square of the Motherland in Astana, Kazakhstan, the Holy Father prayed the Angelus with the people gathered there. He made an appeal for a non-violent solution to the terrorist attack on the USA and invoked the protection of Mary for the entire nation of Kazakhstan. He noted that the Astana Cathedral which can be seen from the Square is dedicated to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and said that: "At this moment I wish to go on spiritual pilgrimage to your national Marian shrine near Oziornoe where you, dear Brothers and Sisters, venerate the Blessed Virgin under the title of Queen of Peace. Prostrate at her feet, I pray for the entire nation of Kazakhstan." To Mary he entrusted "all of you: Christians and non-Christians, believers and non-believers," and the countries bordering Kazakhstan. He gave a special greeting to all those present of Kazakh origin and said: "May the Blessed Virgin Mary take you and your families under her mantle."

Wherefore, all of us without exception prostrate at the feet of your Holiness, professing again and again our love and obedience to the Holy See, and in a most special way to your Holiness, most humbly ask pardon for any pain we may have caused your fatherly heart

This prayer asks Mary to bestow gifts on you. How can this not be asking for more that for Mary to pray for you. Your silence is speaking volumes. The "love" answer doesn't float Robby.

How about if he said LoveS, Becky?

Thank God it was something to put in the family scrapebook and laugh about later. I hope the insurance problems have been worked out as well.

Thanks Robby. I have decided to not sweat the insurance, I'll let God sort all of that out. As far as I am concerned God gave us that van unexpectedly, we got some good usage out of it while we had it and He has now taken it away unexpectedly. If He wants us to have another vehicle He will have to provide it because I don't have the cash to buy one and I am not going into debt for another car. I have only 8 more payments on the car I use for driving to work, once those are done, I am done. I will start making car payments to myself for future purchases.

Again, I appreciate your prayers for my family.

-Kevin

"Glory of Israel"? "Tower of David" (what does that even mean?) "Ark of the covenant"?

I don't think so.

The creaters of the Mary God must realize that Jesus, the Son of God, has many grand titles in the bible and didn't want Her to miss out on any of them.

A young woman would bear a son (Isaiah 7:14).

Angelo, you must have forgotten your Catholic training. If the Bible you use, (in this case, the RSV apparently), look at another version. All the older versions, Vulgate, DR, and even the NAB, use the word "virgin". Throw out the RSV in this instance and use the other versions for your argument. It makes little difference which is the more accurate, what is important is what you want to hear. That is why so many will use the DR only for the magic words; "full of Grace", and then return to their regular Bible.

(I have been in and out for the last week and it isn't easy to keep up. I may be replying to posts that are several days old).

Reggie seemed to be saying the opposite, that some misguided Catholics worship Mary in spite of the Catholic teaching.

Of course, it means nothing to you that I didn't "seem" to say that or anything close to that. Your world of "invention" results in statements such as this and, to you, it is perfectly normal. It isn't an outright lie, it is just your interpretation of what it "seemed" I was saying.

For the record, I was speaking of birth control. It requires a fertile imagination to make birth control "seem" the same as Mary Worship.

Your knee jerk reaction "The Catholic Church Teaches..." is nothing but hollow talk. What Catholics do is what is important, not what you say they should do. Your cavalier "they aren't Catholic" attitude is also hollow baloney. You had better hang onto the "CINO's", without them you would have no church you hypocrite.

If nothing else SD is a model of inconsistency. Is there a prize for that?

I posted this:

"You have found, quite simply, the most profoundly important, and most perfect work concerning devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary -- Saint Louis Marie de Montfort’s True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We present the work here in its entirety. It is the surest and most complete work on devotion to Our Blessed Mother, and the clearest road map ever written on how to live your life in Christ. Pope John Paul II has called it the most important book he has ever read, and it is what has made him such a Marian Pope, effecting every decision that effects us as Catholics.

I assume the Pope has read the Bible and, if this is true, it is not the most important book he has ever read??

SD responded with: (Or could it be that the Bible is not in the same class as other books written by man alone?)

Later he responds to JHavard with:

"Duh, yeah. And the Pope thinks the Bible is the greatest book we have, too. Jeepers Creepers! Give us a little credit, will ya?"

Is it just possible that SD goes into mode while he is on automatic pilot?

Translation: "Once the teaching against divorce and re-marriage became inconvenient for me, I found it expedient to go elsewhere. Now I am constrained to slam Catholicism to justify myself."

Yo hypocrite. While you're cowering in the corner with your laptop here's some food for thought. I left before I was ever married you dunce. Don't they teach anything besides arrogance in that religious organization?

The fight between the Jews and the Arabs was caused by the immigration of Jews after WWI, during the nazi persecution of the 30's and and WWII. It was this that led the Arabs to refuse to go along with the UN plan for a partition of the Palestinian mandate into Jewish and Palestinian territories. The Arabs in the area that the UN assigned to the Jews refused to be a minority in a Jewish state. Hence they invited the surrounding Arabs states to invade and overwhelm the Jews. But the Jews already had a strong militia system and were able to defeat the invading Arab armies. So the Jews own what they own by right of conquest.

Having said that, much of the problems of the Israelis is their population problem. As they have a European birthrate, their population increase now depends entirely on immigration. Meanwhile the Arab population is burgeoning. The avaerage Jewish woman has fewer than 2 children; the average Palestinian, more than twice that. By 2050 the Jews were be outnumbered even with the pre-1967 boundaries.

or that people in Ancient Rome spoke Latin?

Rome Italy may have spoken latin, but, Latin was not the dominant language empire wide. Greek was the dominant language. Interesting isn't it - That even Paul's letter to the Church in Rome was written in Greek to ensure they'd understand it...
