  • With Biden Up Next to Debate, Obama’s Aides Plot Comeback

New York Times ^ | October 7, 2012 | PETER BAKER and TRIP GABRIEL
WASHINGTON — President Obama’s campaign is working feverishly to restore its momentum after a lackluster debate performance last week, an effort that began with a conference call 10 minutes before the debate even ended and led to new advertisements, a rewritten stump speech, a carefully timed leak and a reversal of months-old strategy. Perhaps most important as the president’s team struggles to put his campaign back on track is a renewed effort to win the three remaining debates, starting with Thursday’s face-off between Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Representative Paul D. Ryan. Mr. Biden began traveling to a...

The earth moved in Denver last week. A chunk of realist landscape broke through the media’s gloomy, impressionist artwork, as Mitt Romney dominated Barrack Obama in the first presidential debate. All the king’s horses and all the king’s men insist one good performance by the challenger and one off night for the president don’t really change anything. But in fact, they change everything. The race is recast for several reasons: Everything voters believe—or have endlessly heard-- about the candidates was called into question. Romney’s dismantling of the president wasn’t just a win. The 90 minute encounter reintroduced the men in...

The FBI and LAPD are investigating the suspicious white powder package that was addressed to Bristol Palin on the set of Dancing with the Stars last week. Law enforcement sources are taking the threat seriously and are looking into the possibility that the incident is connected to the white powder scare in 2010. According to reports, the package containing a white powder substance was opened on the CBS lot in West Hollywood Wednesday, addressed to Bristol Palin. An enclosed note demanded Bristol be removed from the show ... or else.

The president of Priority Chevrolet apologized Wednesday for the arrest of a customer in June whom the dealership mistakenly undercharged for an SUV and who resisted the company's efforts to get him to sign a new, costlier contract. Dennis Ellmer said he's heard from Chesapeake police that one of his managers told an officer that Danny Sawyer of Chesapeake had stolen a 2012 Chevrolet Traverse. "I owe Mr. Sawyer a big apology," said Ellmer, who manages the entire Priority Auto Group - which includes 11 dealerships in Virginia and North Carolina. He said his staff erred when they sold the...

During last week's presidential debate, realizing that he was taking a beating on the Medicare solvency issue, Barack Obama issued the following cri de coeur: "AARP thinks that the savings that we obtained from Medicare bolster the system, lengthen the Medicare trust fund by eight years." Later, after enduring several more blows to his credibility, the President went on to claim AARP agreed with him that Romney's plan would weaken Medicare. Oddly, the "senior advocacy organization" took offense at these remarks. Having provided full-throated support to the President and the Democrats on Obamacare, and resisted Medicare reform, AARP has begun...

The Gallup poll indicates that Obama held a 50%-45% advantage over Romney from September 30-October 2, the three days leading up to last Wednesday's presidential debate in Denver, Colorado. According to the survey, Romney and Obama were deadlocked at 47% each in the three days after the debate, from October 4-6.

Our Lady also warned that if Russia was not consecrated to Her Immaculate Heart as She requested, Russia would spread its errors throughout the world. Unfortunately, we are still awaiting the proper consecration of Russia, and we are witnessing the dissemination of Russia’s manifold errors, which Our Lady warned would cause "wars and persecutions against the Church. The good will be martyred, the Holy Father will have much to suffer, various nations will be annihilated." Of these prophecies, all have come to pass, at least in part, and they continue to afflict us, except the annihilation of nations, which may...

Are there People or Groups Organizing Conservative Poll Watchers Across the States? I have been considering taking the day off to help drive people to the polls and instead thought that it would be more helpful to poll watch in Leftist strongholds. If there are organizations that are doing this I would be interested in helping. Frankly, I would only want to do this with at least one other watcher, and a constantly running camera. Anyone else interested in this? Ideas?

On Friday, shares of Trina Solar closed at $4.62, down $0.18 for the day. The stock has been falling for a long time, declining more than 85% in the last three years. That’s not bad, however, considering Trina is a Chinese solar company. Rival Suntech Power has seen its shares, also listed on the Big Board, drop. They are at about 2% of their 2007 values. And Yingli Green Energy plunged 7.3% on Friday in New York, and it is now trading close to its five-year low. In last two years, shares of Chinese solar cell producers have fallen by...

<p>"A large and powerful investor in the software company that will design electronic ballots and record votes for Venezuela's new and much criticized election system is the Venezuelan government itself... Venezuela's investment in Bizta Corp., the ballot software firm, gives the government 28 percent ownership of the company it will use to help deliver voting results in future elections, including the possible recall referendum against President Hugo Chavez, according to records obtained by The Herald... Until a year ago, the Bizta Corp. was a struggling Venezuelan software company with barely a sales deal to its name, records show. Then, the Venezuelan government -- through a venture capital fund -- invested about $200,000 and bought 28 percent of it" (sic).</p>

When the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday that the unemployment rate had fallen to 7.8% in September, some observers wondered if the numbers had been "cooked" for political purposes. They can relax. Fake jobs numbers wouldn't look as bad as these. Two numbers in the BLS report attracted concern: the reported 873,000 increase in total employment, and the 0.3 percentage point reduction in the unemployment rate. These figures suggest a rapidly improving labor market, which would be very convenient for President Obama right now. However, as soon as one delves deeper into the BLS numbers, the reality of...

“The past is never dead,” William Faulkner said, “it’s not even past.” The progressives’ fury over Obama’s meltdown in last week’s debate, and their desperate efforts to get him reelected by any means possible, have to be understood in the context of the long history of the left’s attempt to impose its ideology on the United States. Though successful at capturing the universities, schools, popular culture, and most churches, the left still lusts for the presidency, where the real power lies to change America in line with their ideology. Yet for the last four decades, the left has seen what...
  • Security Team Commander Says Ambassador Stevens Wanted His Team to Stay in Libya Past August

U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens wanted a Security Support Team, made up of 16 special operations soldiers, to stay with him in Libya after their deployment was scheduled to end in August, the commander of that security team told ABC News. The embassy staff’s “first choice was for us to stay,” Lt. Col. Andrew Wood, 55, told ABC News in an interview. “That would have been the choice of the embassy people in Tripoli.” But a senior State Department official told ABC News that the embassy’s Regional Security Officer never specifically requested that the SST’s tour be extended past...

There is increasing evidence that the Obama administration has been less than forthcoming about what they knew about the security situation in Libya. According to several reports, not only did the Obama administration ignore concerns that were brought to their attention about increased terrorist activity in Libya, they reacted completely opposite of how we might expect our government to react, given the information they were given. Instead of increasing security, they decreased the number of security personnel. This, according to what Lt. Col. Andy Wood is expected to tell the House Oversight Committee. (Breitbart) Lt. Col Andy Wood will go...

Gaby Scanlon, 18, had her stomach removed in an operation believed to have saved her life. A teenage girl has undergone emergency surgery after drinking a cocktail containing liquid nitrogen. Gaby Scanlon was celebrating her 18th birthday with friends in Lancaster city centre when she had the drink at Oscars wine bar on Thursday night. Police said she had her stomach removed afterwards in an urgent operation thought to have saved her life. Miss Scanlon, from the nearby village of Heysham, had reported feeling breathless and then developed severe stomach pain after drinking the cocktail. She was taken to Lancaster...

Whose Report Will You Believe? Today's Scripture I have heard a report from the Lord… Jeremiah 49:14, AMP. Today's Word from Joel and Victoria Every day we get “reports” from the news, our experiences, our friends and family, and many other sources. We also get reports from the Word of God, which oftentimes, contradicts what others are saying. That’s when we have a choice: do we believe what we hear in the natural, or do we believe the report of the Lord? Friend, we serve a supernatural God! Just because we don’t see a way doesn’t mean that He...

Coming to Jesus "Come to Me . . ." —Matthew 11:28 Isn’t it humiliating to be told that we must come to Jesus! Think of the things about which we will not come to Jesus Christ. If you want to know how real you are, test yourself by these words— “Come to Me . . . .” In every dimension in which you are not real, you will argue or evade the issue altogether rather than come; you will go through sorrow rather than come; and you will do anything rather than come the last lap of the race...

Pray For the Salvation of America My fellow Freepers, It is a very serious time in our nation's history and our future looks very uncertain and every day the news is full of stories that cause us to fear as it looks like we are teetering towards the edge of a cliff. It is quite obvious to even the casual observer that our great country is under a tremendous spiritual assault by the forces of darkness and hell that is causing great distress to many across this land and in other free nations. This is largely our own fault as...
