PATTERNS OF THOUGHT In Italy, a country traditionally tolerant of immigrants, the public mood has shifted against them. That has prompted the government to take a harder line in a bid to stem the rise of right wing, anti-Muslim parties ahead of national elections. ROME—Every weekday afternoon, lawyer Iacopo Maria Pitorri leaves his office for a few minutes to offer legal advice to a crowd of migrants waiting for him outside Rome’s Termini Station. “My colleagues don’t want these people to come into the office so I come downstairs,” Mr. Pitorri says. Not far away, in Piazza Venezia, a...

Chaziel Sunz: They got us working for them. How they get us is they playing us emotionally… They getting anybody who basically doesn’t like Donald Trump to fight for war that is being started on American turf very, very soon. And they want us to be a part of their side. What I’m trying to get the black population to understand, and this is critical, is the movement has been compromised… BLM is not actually a black organization and never was… If you have any kind of brain you know BLM is endorsed by the Soror and Clinton family.

It is "extremely likely" that human activities are the "dominant cause" of global warming, according to the most comprehensive study ever of climate science by U.S. government researchers. The climate report, obtained by NPR, notes that the past 115 years are "the warmest in the history of modern civilization." The global average temperature has increased by about 1.8 degrees Fahrenheit over that period. Greenhouse gases from industry and agriculture are by far the biggest contributor to warming. The findings contradict statements by President Trump and many of his Cabinet members, who have openly questioned the role humans play in changing...

This morning, the GOP released the highlights of its proposed tax plan which will keep the 20% corporate tax cut as permanent and for a family of four making $59,000 they will get a $1,182 tax cut. The bill will keep a top rate of 39.6% for the highest income earners while doubling the standard deduction for middle class families. The child tax credit will expand from $1,000 to $1,600 and no changes are proposed to 401(k)’s or I.R.A.’s. The plan also aims to slash the number of individual income tax brackets while also repealing the deduction for state and...

White House chief of staff John Kelly’s interview Monday night with Laura Ingraham, in which he expressed the mundane and historically straightforward view that “the lack of an ability to compromise led to the Civil War,” has produced a spasm of simple-minded and myopic commentary. Our intellectual class, unable to think about the war between North and South in anything but the most reductive terms, has decided not only that Kelly suffers from “nostalgia” about the Confederacy, but that Ken Burns and Shelby Foote should be consigned to the dustbin of history. Specifically, Kelly has been excoriated for daring to...

One of the biggest resulting threats to cities around the world is sea-level rise, caused by the expansion of water at higher temperatures and melting ice sheets on the north and south poles. Osaka, Japan - 5.2 million people affected At the end of a month in which it has been battered by unseasonably late typhoons and relentless rain, Japan is already confronting the threat posed by climate change-induced flooding. Alexandria, Egypt - 3 million people affected On the Alexandria Corniche, waves slowly lap at a shoreline dotted with plastic chairs and umbrellas from the beachside cafes. Students perch on...

Democracy for America (DFA) denounced Virginia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ralph Northam on Thursday after Northam flip-flopped in favor of banning sanctuary cities. Ralph Northam flip-flopped this week, signaling that if elected governor he would sign legislation to ban sanctuary cities in the commonwealth of Virginia. “If that bill comes to my desk … I sure will. I’ve always been opposed to sanctuary cities. He knows that,” Northam said, speaking of his Republican opponent, Ed Gillespie. In response to Northam’s flip-flop, Democracy for America disavowed the Democratic gubernatorial candidate and pledged to stop supporting him for the remainder of the election....

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) reportedly wants to scan peoples faces more effectively as they cross the U.S. border, so it’s seeking advanced facial recognition technology. Specifically, the DHS wants the power to analyze people’s facial characteristics while they’re driving without requiring them to slow down, or get out out of the vehicle. It also wants the technological capability to do so even if the subject is looking in a different direction from the camera, or without the border-crossers having to take off any usually-obstructive accessories, like hats and sunglasses. To accomplish this once-distant technological pipe dream, the federal...

The NYPD had suspected New Jersey’s Masjid Omar Mosque, where jihadist Sayfullo Saipov reportedly worshipped, of having radical ties for over 10 years, allegedly keeping all its worshippers under watch. Moreover, the FBI, which claims it had nothing to do with monitoring the mosque, interviewed Saipov as a potential Islamic terrorist in 2015, but ultimately let him go. On Tuesday, Uzbek national Saipov killed eight people and injured at least 11 in a vehicle attack on the West Side of Manhattan on Tuesday. “The New York Police Department has secretly labeled entire mosques as terrorist organizations, a designation that allows...

The jury for the third Bunkerville Standoff trial has been chosen. Six men and six women are on the jury. The 12 jurors along with four alternates are ready for the trial with opening arguments set for Tuesday morning at 8:30 in Las Vegas. "Yes, I believe they are guilty" wrote Juror No. 66 on their questionnaire, but this juror was still on the final roster today even after Ryan Bundy read that answer directly to Judge Gloria Navarro yesterday. Navarro still insisting that there was no bias in that potential juror. This forced the defense to use one of...

President Nicolás Maduro on Thursday called for a restructuring of Venezuela’s foreign debt, blaming heightened U.S. sanctions by the Trump administration and potentially signaling a critical new phase in the country’s economic collapse. Maduro stopped short of declaring the kind of broad, messy default that analysts have feared in the oil-producing nation, and he said Venezuela would on Friday make a key $1.1 billion bond payment for its state energy firm, PDVSA.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) said Thursday on “The Laura Ingraham Show” that the House’s tax plan will deliver economic growth, although it doesn’t really constitute “a significant tax cut” as President Donald Trump said it would.

After Tuesday’s terrorist attack, the useless pols of New York quickly assembled before the cameras to recite the usual litany of politically correct talking points. Looking like a lost giraffe, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio stepped up to the microphone and said that “the last thing we should do is start casting dispersions” on Islam. That moment of illiteracy was then followed by a burst of illogic, as he argued that the proper response to Islamic terrorism in a tolerant country is even more tolerance. “Anyone who wants to come into this country should be very thoroughly vetted...

Nearly 8 years after a terrible wreck left a man unable to communicate, his power of speech has returned. George Bush was 62 when the mainstream media derailed his presidency, which resulted in him and his entire administration going off a cliff and tumbling to the ground. "For eight long years he didn't speak a word," said George's brother, Jeb Bush. Though his family continued to talk to him, they had no idea whether he understood them. That eased a few days ago, when he began responding to questions with grunts and by blinking his eyes. On a doctor's advice,...

Wait a second: isn't Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer the savviest guy in Washington, the super-smart Harvard grad, the ultimate political insider? So if anyone would know about DNC finagling in favor of Hillary Clinton, it would be her fellow New Yorker, Schumer: right? Nope! Turns out Chuck is a delicate flower, unaware of the corruption surrounding him in the DNC cesspool. Morning Joe aired today a clip from Kasie Hunt's interview of Schumer. Slumped in his chair, his voice barely above a whisper, Schumer had the chutzpah to deny any knowledge of the way the DNC rigged things for...
