The Newsweek reporter who wrote an inaccurate story about President Trump's Thanksgiving Day plans has been fired. The outlet's original story claimed the president only planned on tweeting and golfing during his holiday break, neglecting to mention his trip to Afghanistan. Newsweek’s Jessica Kwong, whose Twitter handle identifies her as a political reporter "covering Trump administration and family," initially published the article Thursday morning, before the president's trip to Afghanistan was announced publicly. The story's initial headline was, “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing and more.” “Newsweek investigated the failures that led to the publication of the inaccurate report...

At 82 years old, actor Billy Dee Williams is still finding new ways to make himself the epitome of cool. In a feature profile for Esquire, the man known for playing Lando Calrissian in the Star Wars franchise – a role he’s reprising this winter for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker – talks about how he freely identifies with both he/him/himself and she/her/herself pronouns. It’s not immediately clear if Williams has a clear preference for one set of pronouns or not. VILNIUS – Public disapproval of plans to increase defense spending is affected by unresolved social problems and misconception of funds allocated to national defense, Lithuanian National Defense Minister Raimundas Karoblis says, stressing the need to increase the defense budget in response to a fundamentally changed security situation. His comment came in response to a recent public opinion poll showing that more than half of Lithuanian residents are against the political parties' agreement to gradually increase defense spending to at least 2.5 percent GDP by 2030. "We have strong public and political support to the allocation of 2 percent GDP to...

“Behold, Your King Is Coming to You” (Matthew 21:1-11) In the Holy Gospel for today, St. Matthew writes: “This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying, ‘Say to the daughter of Zion, “Behold, your king is coming to you, humble and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.”’” But this raises some questions: How does this event from Jesus’ life, riding into Jerusalem on a donkey--how does this “fulfill what was spoken by the prophet”? Or another question: What does this Palm Sunday account have to do with...

Jumpin’ ju-ju bones…. Keep in mind as you review these numbers – U.S. consumer spending accounts for two-thirds of total U.S. GDP. The sales numbers from Thanksgiving and Black Friday are exceptionally strong, showing confidence by consumers this holiday season. This is not the ‘recession’ we were promised by pundits. Continued strong wage growth amid all sectors of the U.S. workforce, particularly in non-supervisory positions, combined with low inflation and low energy costs, means consumers are spending out of ‘household cash flow’ which is considerably higher. The overwhelmingly liberal bent of Washington has right-wing politicos wondering whether they can truly get a jury of their peers and receive a fair trial in the nation’s capital. Conservatives say the answer is a resounding “no” and point to this month’s conviction of Trump confidant Roger Stone. A jury in downtown Washington, D.C., on Nov. 15 found Stone guilty on all seven charges against him, including lying to Congress, witness tampering and obstruction. “It is metaphysically impossible for a Trump associate to get a fair trial and draw a jury of their peers,” former Trump campaign adviser and staunch...

The Supreme Court on Monday is set to hear its first major Second Amendment case in nearly a decade, weighing a challenge against a regulation in New York City that prevented licensed firearm owners from taking their weapons in and out of the city. The legal battle was brought by gun rights activists after a federal appeals court upheld a city ordinance that allowed licensed residents to take their firearms outside of their homes to only seven shooting ranges within the city, thus prohibiting them from transporting the weapons to a second home or a gun range outside city limits....

Remembering Halyard Mission Veteran Major Richard L. Felman U.S.A.F. - A Tireless Warrior for the Truth Aleksandra's Note: It's been 20 years since Major Richard Felman of the U.S.A.F. left us. He was determined to repay the "debt of gratitude" to General Draza Mihailovich, his Chetniks, and the Serbian people loyal to them, and he succeeded. As the daughter of...

It all started with a handbag. Maryana Beyder’s wasn’t just any ordinary bag, though. It was a pink Hermès Kelly clutch, since discontinued by the pricey French fashion house. Beyder’s husband had gifted her the purse, worth $30,000, as a 30th birthday present. So after a waiter at a posh New Jersey country club spilled some red wine on the luxury handbag last year, the real estate agent sued for negligence, demanding that the Alpine Country Club pay her the eye-popping price of her spoiled handbag. That lawsuit had already made local headlines, but on Monday, the club in Demarest,...

BRUSSELS — NATO nations are increasing spending on defense, with nine of the alliance’s 29 members now meeting guidelines, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Friday, ahead of a summit next week where President Donald Trump is expected to urge leaders yet again to increase military expenditures. The top-tier spending club — with at least 2% of annual gross domestic allocated for defense — expanded by one country and now includes Bulgaria, according to figures released by the military alliance. EU countries and Canada have collectively boosted their defense spending every year since 2015, motivated first by Russia’s conflict with...

One of the Democrats' main talking points is always about how they plan to tax the rich so the poor "get their fair share," so the rich "pay their fair share." Everything is about "fair share." To every Democrat, that threshold looks different, but, for the most part, they agree that having any kind of wealth is a bad thing. It's why they continually advocate for redistributing the wealth. Billionaire Michael Bloomberg, however, took a very different approach to the subject. During the International Monetary Fund's 2018 Spring Meeting he actually argued that taxing the poor is a good thing. "[Some] say,...

Chimney Rock would have been such a mundane name for what many see as a magical place. There are so many “chimney rocks” in other places, including one in Colorado that became a national monument in 2012. The recent hospitalization of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg following a year of health scares has raised the prospect of a Supreme Court vacancy in an election year and a partisan battle royal that would likely surpass the impeachment fight. Liberal activists are already calling on President Trump to keep any possible Supreme Court vacancy open until after the 2020 election, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has indicated he would fill a court vacancy next year, even though he blocked former President Obama’s nominee for most of 2016 after the death of Justice Antonin Scalia. ... “If we had...

Utah is on its way to becoming the 19th state to ban the discredited practice of conversion therapy in January after state officials formed a proposal that has the support of the influential Church of a Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Republican Gov. Gary Herbert announced Tuesday night that church leaders back a regulatory rule his office helped craft after legislative efforts for a ban on the therapy failed earlier this year. The faith known widely as the Mormon church opposed a previous version of the rule because it wanted assurances that church leaders and members who are therapists would...
