No matter what happens, even surrounding his personal life or his pet cause global warming, former Vice President Al Gore just isn't going away. During an Aug. 10 conference call, Gore launched into a critique of the media's recent coverage of ClimateGate, specifically blogs, talk radio and "biased right-wing media." "Well I believe Mark Twain often gets the credit for the saying ... that a lie runs around the world before the truth gets its boots on," Gore said. "Now I'm not sure that's the real reason for it, but there is a sad but undeniable truth that those who...

  • 'Climategate' was 'a game-changer' in science reporting, say climatologists

Science has been changed forever by the so-called "climategate" saga, leading researchers have said ahead of publication of an inquiry into the affair – and mostly it has been changed for the better. This Wednesday sees the publication of the Muir Russell report into the conduct of scientists from the University of East Anglia's Climatic Research Unit (CRU), whose emails caused a furore in November after they were hacked into and published online. Critics say the emails reveal evasion of freedom of information law, secret deals done during the writing of reports for the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change...
  • Seniors abandoning AARP for conservative counterpart

Apparently feeling betrayed by the AARP's relentless cheer-leading for ObamaCare, seniors are voting with their feet--and their wallets. More than 150,000 people have canceled their memberships since July. The group dismisses the losses and claims to be gaining even more members and membership renewals. But as I noted earlier today, only 16% of seniors think they will be better off with ObamaCare. This makes the AARP's posturing and questionable math difficult to believe. Seniors are flocking by the thousands to a group called the American Seniors Association (ASA). It is a conservative version of the AARP that actually represents seniors,...

Founded in 1958, the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has been the primary organization representing individuals over the age of 50. According to AARP, the group has a membership of 40 million and is listed as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization. The AARP includes a Public Policy Institute which promotes legislation related to those over 50 years of age. AARP's Mission Statement reads the group's goal is "to enhance the quality of life for all as we age, leading positive social change and delivering value to members through information, advocacy and service." The AARP has come under criticism in the...

THE “war” between science and religion is notable for the amount of civil disobedience on both sides. Most scientists and most religious believers refuse to be drafted into the fight. Whether out of a live-and-let-live philosophy, or a belief that religion and science are actually compatible, or a heartfelt indifference to the question, they’re choosing to sit this one out. Still, the war continues, and it’s not just a sideshow. There are intensely motivated and vocal people on both sides making serious and conflicting claims. There are atheists who go beyond declaring personal disbelief in God and insist that any...

According to CBS News, AARP doesn't care that they have lost 60,000 members since July 1: "AARP says for a group with 40 million members that adds hundreds of thousands each month, losing 60 thousand is just a drop in the bucket."Now you understand why they were so rude at the Dallas health care forum. Now you can understand why they left the meeting in a huff when their own members began to question them about their support of the Obama/Democrat health care plan. THEY TAKE THEIR MEMBERS FOR GRANTED! Because so few know that there is an option outside...

Update: May 26 2009 The daily image update has been temporarily suspended because of large areas of missing data in the past week. NSIDC currently gets its data from the SSM/I sensor on the DMSP F13 satellite, which is nearing the end of its operational life and experiencing intermittent problems. NSIDC has been working on a transition to a newer sensor on the F17 satellite for several months. At this time, we have more than a year of data from F17, which we are using to intercalibrate with F13 data. The F17 data are not yet available for near-real-time updates....

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has released the first gender- and age-specific recommendations for aspirin therapy in patients at risk of cardiovascular disease. Drawing on data from recent studies, the new recommendations conclude that aspirin therapy reduces the risk of heart attack and ischemic stroke in appropriate male candidates, while it cuts the risk of ischemic stroke in female candidates. Both groups are at risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Daily aspirin therapy therefore should be encouraged in women aged 55–79 years and men aged 45–79 years who have few risks of aspirin-related adverse events and who have potentially large benefits...

"As a". I have noticed that many people when speaking or writing start their sentence with "As a". Followed by an array of PC protected classes such as, "as a women, or "as a person of color" or "as a single mother",etc. Most of the time after "As a" comes "I was offended by". The jest of their point is always the same, (I don't like what your saying, their will be no debate, shut up!) and they do it alot & get away with it. I'm sick of the "As a's". Am I wrong?

In the small town of Paron, you have a lot of upset people. Many say the decision to close the middle and high schools was a poor one because they say it was made without the voice of the people it is going to affect. “That's why this state's got to get vouchers so the parents can say 'Here's my money, I'm going here,'" says Dan Carlson. Carlson says he moved his family from Benton to the Paron area because he was looking to put his kids in a school with smaller class sizes. Carlson says, “We can come out...

Prospects are fading for a rewrite of the nation's endangered species protection law this year as key senators hesitate to move anything that would have to be meshed with legislation written last fall by Rep. Richard Pombo, R-Tracy. Some senators have expressed concern that any bill they pass, even if it gains bipartisan consensus, would still have to be blended with Pombo's aggressive rewrite. And Pombo's bill goes way too far in easing environmental protection, according to many critics. For example, Sen. Lincoln Chafee, R-R.I., the chairman of a key subcommittee, has said he fears any Senate bill might be...
