One judge lied for her, had sex with her and shared painkillers with her. Another sent her to prison Wednesday. Knox County Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz ordered Deena Castleman, 37, to serve six years for a slew of convictions, including aggravated burglary, theft, DUI and possession of prescription painkillers. Castleman racked up all those charges while engaged in a relationship with former Criminal Court Judge Richard Baumgartner that included sex and both pill-procuring for him and pill-using with him, according to portions of a Tennessee Bureau of Investigation probe made public earlier this month. At least one of...

Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama agreed Monday to limit a divisive roll call for president, giving delegates a brief but historic choice between a black man and white woman. The deal would allow some states to cast votes for both Obama and Clinton... ...both senators have an incentive to help make peace between their opposing sides — Obama so he'll have their backing in November and Clinton so she'll be well positioned for a future run. ..."There's a moment that you want to enjoy your bitterness," [Townsend] said. ...they were still struggling to solve the mechanics of honoring Clinton...
  • General CCW application question

Here is a question relating to CCW applications: For those states that require fingerprinting, are sets taken and compared to a database then discarded, or are they added to a database? Local leo's have not been able to answer this, saying htey really weren't sure. I have heard both, but have not found a definitive answer, and would appreciate links to official sources. Of course, the question of whether records are destroyed just because it is the law is another one altogether... Thank you,

This is a very interesting read. Eugene Volokh's take on when free speech becomes "crime-facilitating" Sorry it is pdf and a long read, but very interesting to those concerned with freedom of speech issues, especially as related to the dissemination of information.

October 31, 1517 Was it a cold dreary day in late October When Luther strode the steps up to the door? Or did the day burn bright and clear Perhaps the first of many more? For with a paper and a pen He bound the lies that bound our hope, And a hammer and a nail again Did set men free with every stroke. I wonder if he thought as he walked home - While others gathered 'round to see - Of the fires that soon would come Before the end of tyranny. TR '96

  • Looking for good second amendment posters (especially for women)

Hey all, after searching for a bit - I thought I ought to ask if anyone knows where I can find the poster that gives a woman a choice between a set of keys held between her knuckles or a handgun - asking her which she would prefer. While I'm at it, any links to similar catching flyers might be nice as well Thank you,

A contemporary economic view of the causes of the American revolution - contra many posited reasons in academia. Gentz does not address issues of religious nature (other than a briefly disparaging comment), but does provide a very good analysis of why the American colonists went to war. As Adams says in the introduction: The essential difference between these two great events, in their rise, their progress, and their termination, is here shewn in various lights, one of which alone is sufficient for an honest man. A modern philosopher may contend that the sheriff, who executes a criminal, and the highwayman, ...

Suppose 'someone we know' were stopped in a routine traffic stop and during the course of the stop asked if he had any weapons in the car. Being a normally co-operative citizen, suppose this person says yes, allows the officer in question to take his weapon from its legally stored carrying place, and to run a stolen weapons check upon said handgun. Now suppose that though the check comes back clean, some other citizen with a police band scanner calls the police station to say that he has heard them discussing a handgun on the radio and that he thinks ...

If a king should fall under such contempt or envy, that he could not keep his subjects in their duty, but by oppression and ill-usage, and by rendering them poor and miserable, it were certainly better for him to quit his kingdom, than to retain it by such methods, as makes him while he keeps the name of authority, lose the majesty due to it... Court to review some no-warrant searches WASHINGTON (AP) - The Supreme Court Monday agreed to decide whether police without a warrant can stop and search someone for a gun based on an anonymous tip accurately describing the person's location and clothing. The justices said they will hear Florida prosecutors' argument that such a tip provides enough ''reasonable suspicion'' to justify a warrantless search. The case involves a juvenile identified in court papers as ''J.L.'' who was stopped and frisked by a Miami police officer in 1995. Police had received an anonymous tip that three young blacks were standing in front ...

USA WEEKEND's Third Annual America's Poll Our exclusive July Fourth poll finds Americans ready to trade some cherished freedoms for greater safety for themselves -- and their children. Just two MONTHS after the Columbine High School massacre in Colorado, horrific gun crimes by the young have reached such runaway proportions it's become hard to keep track. Would Americans accept new restrictions on guns and Hollywood -- and surrender some freedoms -- to prevent another Columbine? That's what a USA WEEKEND poll has found. Key findings 52% say the right to bear arms should be modified or eliminated. 89% believe ...
