  • Airbus scoffs, Boeing crows as WTO slams EU for failing to address illegal subsidies

A World Trade Organization (WTO) compliance panel ruled Thursday that the European Union has fallen dramatically short of remedying the harm to Boeing from illegal subsidies to Airbus. The decision opens a path for the U.S. to implement trade sanctions against the EU — potentially imposing billions of dollars in tariffs on its goods or services.

We just got back form a 2000 mile driving trip. We went from Snohomish Washington (1 hour north o Seattle) to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. So we covered Eastern Washington, Montana and a little bit of Idaho and Wyoming. To make it easy I kept track of the Trump/Pence signas and my wife counted the Clinton/Keine signs. She had the easier job. Final tally: Trump/Pence = 26 Clinton/Keine = 0 A total shut out for the inevitable Hillary.
  • 405 toll lanes may have been trigger for firing of WSDOT secretary Lynn Peterson

In the end, state Transportation Secretary Lynn Peterson wasn’t derailed by nearly $400 million in Highway 520 bridge overruns, or even the two-year delay in the Highway 99 tunnel, a pair of projects that she inherited. Instead, the cardinal sin that Peterson and her department committed was to infuriate suburban motorists. Senate Republicans on Friday ousted Peterson without warning, by voting not to confirm her, three years after Gov. Jay Inslee appointed her. Blame a bumpy rollout of Interstate 405 express-toll lanes, which were meant to improve traffic flows in south Snohomish and northeast King counties. Instead, they moved some...

Full title: BlahBlahBlahGate: Watch What Really Happened when We Kicked a U.S. Senate Candidate Out of Our Offices (snip) Maybe it was the part where Callahan rebuked our reporter Nigel Jaquiss for writing "blah blah blah" in his notepad while another candidate, Joe Rae Perkins, who was supposed to be talking about health care, was instead talking about eliminating the U.S. Forest Service. Maybe it was the bit where Callahan called climate change "a myth," and Jaquiss asked him, "Where are you on the Easter bunny?" Maybe it was the way our "thin-skinned liberal" editors helpfully pointed the direction in...
  • Did President Obama's mispronunciation of Oso tarnish his mudslide visit?

President Obama had plenty of heartfelt words as he spoke at the Oso firehouse after touring the mudslide debris field. But his remarks are being overshadowed because he mispronounced Oso several times. He got it right the first time he referenced the town devastated by last month's slide as he recognized family members of the victims, first responders and officials, saying he came to let the community know the entire country is thinking of them. But moments later came his big gaffe. "Because while very few Americans have ever heard of Osso [sic] before the disaster struck, we've all been...

JAY LENO: When you help your daughters with their homework, is there a subject you struggle with? PRESIDENT OBAMA: Well, the math stuff I was fine with up until 7th grade. But Malia is now a freshman in High School and I'm pretty lost. It's tough. Fortunately, they are great students on their own. And if something doesn't work I'll call over to the Department of Energy to see if they have a physicist to come over!

PHOENIX — Investigators for an Arizona sheriff’s volunteer posse have declared that President Barack Obama’s birth certificate is definitely fraudulent. Members of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s posse said in March that there was probable cause that Obama’s long-form birth certificate released by the White House in April 2011 was a computer-generated forgery.

During a news conference for the 19th annual Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation leader's summit on Sunday, the president gave birthers the answer they have been waiting for, that Obama was not born in America. The media seemingly focused on the "magic beans" statement Obama made during the speech but completely glossed over the part where the president said of his birth state of Hawaii, "Here in Asia." If Hawaii is in Asia, then the president was not born in the U.S. You win, birthers.

Today while i was at work I got a spam text message from Jiffy Lube. I was really ticked off. I called the local Jiffy Lube I go to and asked for the managers number and the hung up on me. So I called the corporate headquarters. (Heartland something in Dallas) and talked to someone in the marketing department. From her I got the number of the VP for marketing for our region. I gave him a good long earful and demanded $2 for the text messaging charges. He told me he didn't think this was spam. This is worse...

Albaugh said the health-care law passed earlier this year will add to the company's costs over the next several years. He added that the law "in 2018 could subject Boeing to a substantial tax on health-care plans exceeding a certain threshold." This is a reference to the so-called "Cadillac Health Plan" excise tax, a provision in the law that was intended to bring down overall heath-care costs by discouraging high-cost plans, and to help fund the health-care overhaul by raising money from the more well-off.

When winter storms rolled over Seattle in December, bringing snow and freezing temperatures to the city, the manager in control of the city's snowplows had no experience directing a major snow response and had put in place as his No. 2 an employee who knew even less on the subject. Together, Paul Jackson Jr. and Robert Clarke, a former crew chief, orchestrated a disjointed response to the winter weather that left major streets unplowed while Jackson, the man calling the shots, worried aloud about clearing certain streets so the mayor could drive to work, according to interviews with plow drivers...

"Nazis." Lord, can we just give this one a rest? So help me, if there's a term that's been overworked and overused in public debate of late, that's it. Worn out is what it is. The most recent example was a July 15 guest commentary in this newspaper written by Mr. Marc Brenman. Mr. Brenman is the executive director of the Washington State Human Rights Commission and he held forth for 700 or so words on how truly bad he thinks a group called The Minutemen are. Fine. That's an opinion. He's entitled to it and, most certainly, is entitled...

Republicans say a new ad is grossly misleading and the Democrats are illegally using copyrighted video. Conveniently leaving out bits of information is a well-worn tactic in political advertising, but Republicans say the latest ad in the 8th Congressional District race crosses the line.
