A New York Times story about a “modest” global tax mentions some of those supporting the idea but forgets an important one—the United Nations.... In the past, Obama has backed international studies on the feasibility of implementing a global tax.... The idea of a global tax is being discussed at the U.N. Climate Change Conference taking place November 28-December 9 in Durban, South Africa.... ....economist Jan Tinbergen calling for “world government”....He also urged a “world police” with the ability to “subpoena nations” to appear before U.N courts.

The TSA is once again on the hot seat after a passenger was able to fly cross-country from New York to Los Angeles without a valid passport. Officials say Olajide Noibe was also carrying an expired boarding pass. When they finally took Noibe into custody, he told authorities he planned to fly back to his native Nigeria next month, only to return to the US on September 9, just two days before the 10 year anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon.

Why, the civil court system of course: Holder’s declaration came in a Thursday speech to hundreds of progressive lawyers, advocates, judges and students gathered at the American Constitution Society’s annual gala. “I know that – in distant countries, and within our own borders – there are people intent on, and actively plotting to, kill Americans,” he told his legal peers in the enthusiastic audience. “Victory and security will not come easily, and they won’t come at all if we adhere to a rigid ideology, adopt a narrow methodology, or abandon our most effective terror-fighting weapon – our Article III [civil]...

The Groupon Guide to: Shame Like all emotions, shame sneaks into the pit of your stomach when you least expect it. Sometimes, however, biological or environmental triggers may cause you to feel shame even when you've got nothing to be ashamed of. Here's a guide to feeling shame appropriately: The Situation: You've been caught cheating on an exam. Shameworthy?: No, unless the exam proctor explicitly forbade cheating by tattooing "No Cheating" on your forearm before the exam, or if the test questions were arranged to form an acrostic that spelled "DON'T CHEAT." If not, then cheating is not just allowed,...

No amount of family counseling is going to help here. A Washington State man had to be airlifted to the hospital after his daughter shot him with a hunting bow because he took away her cell phone, authorities said. The 15-year-old girl refused to let her father use the phone to call for help Wednesday evening, forcing him to crawl to a neighbor's house for help, KOMO-TV reported. When officers arrived at the house in Tahuya, Wash. - about 35 miles west of Seattle - the girl fled into the woods with the bow and 35 arrows. A SWAT team...

Hybrid gasoline-electric and all-electric cars will continue to cost more than vehicles with a conventional internal combustion engine for the foreseeable future, putting the new technology beyond the reach of many car buyers. Sales of hybrid and all-electric cars therefore may be limited to affluent buyers who can afford to make an environmental statement and the vast majority of vehicles will continue to be powered by gasoline or diesel engines. While promising, the new lithium-ion battery technology won’t significantly reduce pollution or dependence on foreign oil by 2030.

I'm probably boring you to death by going through the Cap and Trade bill with a fine tooth comb. But today, let's talk about how it would direct money to the working poor in America. On page 1193, the bill would add a section to the Social Security Act on an "Energy Refund Program." Basically, those making no more than 150% of the poverty line, would get monthly cash payments from the government to...

CLACKAMAS -- They came by ones and twos Friday, quietly slipping into the pews at New Hope Community Church. They smiled at the words honoring a man whose faith made him an inspiration and whose exploits in three wars made him a hero. And when the last mournful drone of the bagpipes faded, they said goodbye to Col. Kenneth L. Reusser of Milwaukie, the most decorated U.S. Marine Corps aviator in history. "He was the finest gentleman I've ever met," said Harley Wedel of Fairview, a fellow Korean War veteran. "I'm really going to miss him." Reusser flew an amazing...

Hotel Of Doom Hotel of Doom is a mocking name for one of the biggest and most ugliest structures in the world. The real name of that behemoth is Ryugyong Hotel which is located in Pyongyang, North Korea. This hotel is one of the best examples of awful planning. The communist regime in North Korea wanted to show the entire world that they can be equal to them in any aspect. And is there a better way to show the world how capable they are then by building a huge structure which will attract rich foreigner tourists and investors. That’s...
  • Justice Department Issues Warning Letter On Waxman-Davis Lobby Bill (Big Brother Alert)

The Department of Justice has sent a letter of concern to Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) describing the dangers of his lobby reform bill, H.R. 984. The DOJ letter notes that H.R. 984 violates the separation of powers and intrudes upon the day-to-day operations of the Executive Branch. H.R. 984 burdens “more than 8,000 executive branch employees with an onerous recordkeeping and disclosure requirement. Congress lacks constitutional authority to micromanage the affairs of the Executive branch to this extreme and unprecedented degree. … the bill raises substantial First Amendment concerns in that the disclosure process would burden the public’s right to...

TUCSON, Ariz. -- More than half of Arizona's babies were born under the state's health plan for low-income residents last year, according to statistics from the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System. The system, also known as AHCCCS, paid for 53,121 deliveries last year. That's about 52 percent of the state's 102,042 births. In 2000, AHCCCS paid for 42 percent of the state's births. AHCCCS reported paying more than $4,200 on average for each birth it covered last year _ a $223 million expenditure that also covered prenatal care for most of those babies' mothers. The increase in coverage follows...

NEW YORK (May 4) -- One-third of Americans say they have a negative view of Katie Couric , her personal popularity lagging behind rivals Charles Gibson and Brian Williams just as her evening news program trails in the ratings. The Gallup Poll survey released Thursday found that 51 percent of Americans said they had a positive view of Couric, who jumped from NBC's "Today" show to CBS last fall. The poll found Gibson and Williams essentially running neck-and-neck in terms of popularity. ABC's Gibson was viewed positively by 62 percent of TV viewers and NBC's Williams by 59 percent, but...

Death threats. Harassing phone calls. Threatening e-mails. Such was a day in the life of Drew Johnson a few weeks ago. His crime? Johnson is president of the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, a free-market think tank that broke one of the juiciest stories of 2007. A day after the Academy Awards, on Feb. 26, Johnson’s organization reported details of Al Gore’s enormous utility bill. The former vice president had consumed nearly 221,000 kilowatt hours of electricity in a single year -- more than 20 times the national average. The story skyrocketed to the top headline on the Drudge Report,...

Democrats in Congress appear to be taking full advantage of the "pay to play" system they said led to a "climate of corruption" under Republicans, an ABC News investigation has found. "Washington looks pretty much the same as it always did," said Ellen Miller of the Sunlight Foundation, despite Democratic promises of reform. Campaign finance records made public this week show Democratic congressional campaign committees taking in substantially more in contributions than their Republican counterparts. According to the records, the Democratic House and Senate committees reported $32.7 million in contributions. The Republican committees reported $22.9 million. One of the Democrats'...
