IMVHO, the biggest reason I see to avoid engagement is that we do not have serious people in charge. We cannot ask lives to be risked with leaders like this. Case in point:
“With Charlie, we weren’t for a massacre, but it is true that we weren’t too sorry,” said Kader Benamou, who was browsing at an Islamic bookshop opposite the Grand Mosque.”
It does not seem to me that he actually changed his position at all. He did NOT say that birthright citizenship was not in the 14th Amendment. He said that the POLICY no longer makes sense. He then went on to offer two ways of making the LAW conform with what he thinks makes sense for POLICY - a Constitutional Amendment or a law by Congress clarifying what is meant by “jurisdiction”. It is not inconsistent to say yeah the law says this, it doesn’t make sense, here is how I would change it. Here’s the video link for full context. Totally disagree with your premise.
Nobody “took offense” to their actions. They are upset because they irreparably damaged the site. They didn’t come across as “careless and crass”, they were. Idiots.
It was a crazy night! I think the biggest problem is Cobb and Fulton closing schools early. All the paniced working parents flooded the roads and there was gridlock. Had there been no school, I think yesterday afternoon would have been very different. Have loved hearing the stories of neighbors helping neighbors and people pulling together to make the best of things.
Totally agree with you about the reassurance Mullen should have had before going. As I was writing my first response I was thinking that what it truly betrayed was his total lack of confidence in the President.
I don’t think it takes anything away from the fact that Mullen totally exacerbated the situation and raised the stress level. It really is unconscionable we’re in this situation.
I agree. I think to say that Obama had him fly there to deliver this message is hyperbole. He was answering a question to him in a forum setting and, IMO, answered it honestly.
I called too. NOTE: Before calling, you should know and note that Chambliss is also an original sponsor to cut, cap and balance, SB 1340. This originated in the Senate and the House just voted on it.
Told him that somehow Washington was going to have to make due with the $4.2 T that we sent them last year. Another thread said that on FOX this morning the Sen admitted that the balance was done due to tax increases and budgetary gimmickry. The other thread was a write up from the CATO Institute on this. It said there were net $1T tax increases. Phone answerer said there were no tax increases. Told her she needed to check this and his appearance on Fox this morning. Also told her there weren’t real cuts, it was restraint in rate of growth. The people of GA are awake and they are not going to stand for this.
Will let you know if I hear anything via email from the Sen.
