Georgia attorney general releases 800-plus page report detailing cheating scandal at Atlanta public schools. Teachers, school administrators and principals were directly involved with various efforts – including outright cheating and changing student answers – to increase the Atlanta school systems student performance scores. Some even held “erasure parties” on weekends to change answers. You may have heard about the "shootout" yesterday along the border between Mexico and the United States between drug runners and Texas law enforcement, but have you seen how the media is spinning this? A news report in The Monitor – seemingly written by a spokesperson for the Mexican drug-running industry – downplayed the incident and thinks six shots taken from a pistol on the Mexican side of the border is no big deal at all … especially since we’ve got assault rifles or something.

Even though the article states kids have been forced to eat the lunches provided by the government for six years, there is no information provided about the health and wellness of the kids. Where are the results from the past six years? How is the obesity rate? How about the diabetes rate?

Here is another reason public unions should not be allowed to collectively bargain with politicians running a local or state government. Union leadership – including those from law enforcement and firefighters – have sent letters out to local businesses demanding they publicly oppose the efforts of Wisconsin’s legislature and governor or face the consequences. Not only are they suggesting they publicly oppose the fiscal-sanity measures in Wisconsin, they are flat out telling them they will publicly boycott businesses who do not proactively do so.

Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee (I.) will soon send out a directive that state employees may not call into or spend any time on talk radio during state time. Chafee doesn’t think state resources should be used for “ratings driven, for-profit programming.” NPR of course, will be exempt. But is this really a problem in Rhode Island? Has there been some sort of epidemic of state workers ignoring their responsibilities and showing up on talk radio? News staff from the CBS affiliate KTVA in Anchorage inadvertently left a message on the cell phone of Joe Miller’s campaign spokesperson yesterday. Nick McDermott, the KTVA assignment editor, had just ended a phone call with Miller’s spokesperson but missed the ‘end call’ button on his iPhone.
