A longtime top aide to Gov. Deval Patrick was busted on drunken driving charges over the weekend and has been put on unpaid leave, the Herald has learned. Ron Bell, the governor’s $97,000-a-year community affairs director, was arrested at 3:30 a.m. Saturday in Brookline after being stopped for alleged erratic driving, police said. Police said Bell, 48, was swerving and nearly hit a median strip on Boylston Street before he was pulled over. A man accused of battery on a law-enforcement officer and indecent exposure appeared in court this morning at the Orange County Jail. While the offenses call for bail totaling $1,600, Manuel Temich Velasquez, 22, has an immigration hold on him and will not be released unless U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement releases the hold, according to jail spokesman Allen Moore.

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOX) -Charges are pending against an illegal alien driver who police say struck and killed a pedestrian on the Poplar Street Bridge early Sunday morning. FRAMINGHAM — A Framingham man illegally in the country from Kenya was drunk when he nearly ran his sport utility vehicle into a police car Wednesday night on Waverly Street, police said. After the near crash, Onyango Obama, 67, told Officer Val Krishtal that Krishtal should have yielded to his Mitsubishi SUV, according to a report filed yesterday in Framingham District Court. A man charged with four counts of intoxication manslaughter is an illegal alien who only a few weeks ago was arrested on another alcohol-related charge, officials say. Roberto Castillo, 19, remained in the Washington County jail this morning under $2 million bond after authorities say he slammed into another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 36 South and FM 109 about 1:30 a.m. Sunday.
