About 800 inmates escaped a federal prison holding Muslim extremists in northern Nigeria during a sunset attack by gunmen who are believed to be members of a radical sect, a police official said Wednesday. The attackers went cell by cell at the prison in Bauchi, breaking open locks and setting fire to part of the prison before escaping during the confusion, said Bauchi state police commissioner Danlami Yar'Adua. Four people died and six others remain in critical condition.

Department of Homeland Security is planning to take several steps to assist local law enforcement agencies in identifying terrorists and uncovering terrorist plots. For example, DHS is working with the Justice Department, the Major City Chiefs Association, and other federal agencies and local law enforcement organizations to develop a curriculum that will train police officers to identify signs of extremism. The courses will be offered online as well as at DHS' Federal Law Enforcement Training Center and regional police training centers. Meanwhile, DHS is also planning to develop case studies of terrorist plots that will help law enforcement officers learn...

Muslim Protesters Brand War Heroes 'Murderers' As Homecoming Parade Turns Violent 15th June 2010 A group of extremist Muslims prompted violent clashes at a homecoming parade for British troops today after they heckled soldiers and called them 'murderers.'[Pics in URL] Members of the Muslim Against the Crusade group clashed with far right protesters as they shouted 'murderers, murderers, murderers' and 'British troops go to hell' as members of the 1st Battalion the Royal Anglian Regiment paraded down the streets of Barking, Essex. The chants were drowned out by a large mob on the opposite side of the street who retaliated...

An official flushed a white powder from a plastic bag labeled “Anthrax” down a toilet at the Capitol while hundreds of tourists milled around nearby. Capitol Police, who heard about Saturday's incident at the Capitol Visitor Center (CVC) only later that day, said that instead of breaching security in this way, the tour guide supervisor who handled the powder should have left it alone and informed security.

If you blinked, you might have missed it. The Obama administration has unofficially rebranded "war on terror" phrase that dominated public discourse throughout the Bush administration. The replacement phrase, carefully chosen, is "CVE" -- Countering Violent Extremism. Early in the administration, the Office of Management and Budget changed the wording of the line item under which the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq were funded. They called it "Overseas Contingency Operations." That phrase was never intended to be for public consumption (and public ridicule), but burrowed bureaucrats leaked it to the press, a field day was had. Countering Violent Extremism is...

Enemy of the State - An Extremist Manifesto Notes from the Fall of the Republic "You need only reflect that one of the best ways to get yourself a reputation as a dangerous citizen these days is to go about repeating the very phrases which our founding fathers used in the struggle for independence."Charles Austin Beard, American Historian, 1874-1948   For some of us, having our beliefs called to question is an uncomfortable experience. Coming from an acquaintance, it can be unnerving; coming from a stranger, it can feel like an assault. But, really - why should any of us...

Stewart Rhodes does not seem like an extremist. He is a graduate of Yale Law School and a former U.S. Army paratrooper and congressional staffer. He is not at all secretive. In February he was sitting at a table at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) at a fancy downtown hotel in Washington, handing out fliers and selling T shirts for his organization, the Oath Keepers. Rhodes says he has 6,000 dues-paying members, active and retired police and military, who promise never to take orders to disarm U.S. citizens or herd them into concentration camps. Rhodes told a NEWSWEEK...

The chairman of the Senate Homeland Security Committee said Sunday that domestic terrorism is a real and growing danger. Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, Connecticut independent, said the political discourse in the United States turns extreme and incendiary at times, and that can lead some people to take radical actions. Federal authorities report an uptick in the activities of domestic extremist groups in the last year. Noting the recent bombings in Moscow, Mr. Lieberman said more must be done to protect trains, subways and buses in the United States. Mr. Lieberman appeared Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press." © Copyright 2010...

“Extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice! • Extremist Threat to U.S. ‘Evolving,’ Intel Leaders Say

WASHINGTON, Feb. 3, 2010 – The violent extremist threat is evolving, senior U.S. intelligence officials told the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence yesterday. Director of National Intelligence Dennis Blair and CIA Director Leon Panetta told lawmakers that al-Qaida remains at the center of the extremist threat against the United States. Meanwhile, al-Qaida, its affiliates, and other terror groups are changing as they continue to plot and attempt attacks, the intelligence officials said. “My greatest concern and what keeps me awake at night is that al-Qaida and its terrorist allies and affiliates could very well attack the United States in our...

Neapolitan is an Italian ice-cream with three flavors: chocolate, vanilla and strawberry; Janet Napolitano is the Italian-American US Homeland Security Secretary with three flavors: “the system worked,” “the system failed miserably” and another more subtle, nuanced flavor “the rules have been in place since 2006″,” i.e., “it’s Bush’s fault.” After the Nigerian “Knicker Bomber” terrorist tried to blow up a plane en route to Detroit from Amsterdam on Christmas Day, Napolitano gave us all three flavors in rapidfire succession within a few days. Shortly thereafter, law-abiding citizens were instructed to fly with their hands on their knees and nothing in...

VIDEO: Glenn Beck returned to the airwaves on Thursday after a short absence to have an emergency appendectomy. At the top of Glenn's list was the political correctness run amok in the Left's hellbent, politically correct urge to describe the Fort Hood terrorist as anything but "extremist". It's pathetic how the Left, including the president, can "jump to conclusions" about every imaginary, far-fetched possible motive, except the most obvious: He was an extremist, Muslim terrorist!

Neo-Nazis took to the streets in Arizona and Minnesota this weekend, a new boldness that officials say echoes the homegrown terrorism of the 1990s. James Verini talks to the extremists leading the charge. A year after President Obama's election, hate groups are feeling bolder than they have in over a decade, and their usually insular anger is beginning to spill into the public realm. This weekend, the National Socialist Movement, a neo-Nazi organization, held rallies in Arizona and Minnesota. Those demonstrations came on the heels of similar actions in Southern California, where epithet-spewing white supremacists were forced to disband by...

Divisive Debate by Dr. Joe Douglas As a physician I have talked with people about how they want to be treated at the end of their lives. If they knew they were dying, how much would they want done? Would they want to be at home or at a hospital or in a nursing or hospice facility? How much chemotherapy, resuscitation, diagnostic tests, feeding tubes, etc., would they want? At some point would they just want to be kept from suffering?I also want to be able to have this sort of conversation for myself. I want eventually to be allowed...

DoD Training Manual: Protests are "Low-Level Terrorism"JUNE 14, 2009 7:35PM The Department of Defense is training all of its personnel in its current Antiterrorism and Force Protection Annual Refresher Training Course that political protest is "low-level terrorism." The Training introduction reads as follows: "Anti-terrorism (AT) and Force Protection (FP) are two facets of the Department of Defense (DoD) Mission Assurance Program. It is DoD policy, as found in DoDI 2000.16, that the DoD Components and the DoD elements and personnel shall be protected from terrorist acts through a high pirority, comprehensive, AT program. Taking the pulse of extremist groupsIs domestic terrorism on the rise? Is there a trend in the recent violence? Experts on the subject disagree. By Bob Drogin June 12, 2009 Reporting from Silver Spring, Md. -- A day after an anti-Semite allegedly shot and killed a security guard at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, experts disagreed about whether it was an isolated event or the latest sign of a growing threat by domestic hate groups. The danger appeared to come from two directions: far-right fanatics who feed on domestic conspiracy theories and Muslim extremists who oppose U.S. policies...

“All I know is my gut says maybe.” - The President of the Neutral Planet from Futurama One of the most common misconceptions about Moderates is that they are neutral, appeasing, weak, indifferent, apathetic, or a host of other soft-sounding adjectives. Perhaps when one thinks of a Moderate, they immediately imagine someone who doesn’t take a stand on any issue. Perhaps they think of one more concerned about being liked than about doing what is right. Perhaps they think of one who is easily swayed by the changing winds of public opinion. If you found yourself agreeing with any of...

I just can’t help being fascinated by government and politics. Despite the many flaws inherent to any political system, I love observing how people choose their leaders, and how those leaders in turn design and promote policies and programs which, in theory, exist to promote the general welfare. It is also intriguing to watch how people react to these policies. We are all aware that public reaction to political issues is seldom pretty. No matter the policy, there is some group which takes offense. Every issue has an extreme application, and to adapt the words of Sir Isaac Newton: “for...
