  • FBI goes back to 9mm with Glock

The Federal Bureau of Investigation awarded Glock an $85 million contract to produce 9mm handguns for the better part of a decade, according to the notice published Wednesday. The contract marks a milestone in the history of FBI weapons as the agency famously ditched 9mm in the mid-1980s for a larger .40-caliber handgun. The return comes after 30 years of ballistic improvements to 9mm ammunition. The contract covers five items that include a compact pistol, a full-size pistol, an inert training pistol, a Simunition training pistol, and replacement parts, according to the solicitation. Specifications in the solicitation suggest Glock...

Sometimes, it’s simply more cost-effective for companies to settle a civil lawsuit with a payoff than it is to pay the crushing legal costs of defending yourself in court. It’s sad that being in the right is utterly irrelevant, but that’s simply the way our sue-happy civil court system in this Republic is regretfully designed to operate. We’re seeing that play out in California right now, as Glock is settling a case with a former LAPD officer who sued Glock for a negligent discharge shooting that left him paralyzed. Attorneys for a gun manufacturer and a retired LAPD officer...

The recent horrific shooting in Kansas has drawn national attention.  On the facebook page of the dead suspect ( I will not mention his name here) was this picture of a Glock pistol.  It is a bit unusual. If you look closely, and enlarge the picture, you can almost read the entire serial number.  The serial number on the slide and the barrel appear to match, but they seem to be mismatched to the frame.  The frame seems to be a generation 3; the serial number on the slide and barrel, a generation 1.  You can see the accessory...

This past week the Naval Special Warfare Command made a decision to pick up the Glock 19 as the SEALs new sidearm. They will slowly begin to phase out the Sig P226, and replace those with the Glock 19. There is nothing wrong with the Sig P226. It has served the Teams for many years and is a proven reliable system. However, as firearms evolve the military needs to keep pace. In this case the move to the Glock 19 makes sense. The Glock 19 has a lot to offer in a compact package, and is by far the most...

The gun, with one round in the chamber and 10 in the magazine, was found by a traveler last week on the back of a toilet seat beyond Transportation Security Administration checkpoints, according to a Denver police report. It was later returned to the agent, who was traveling on Southwest Airlines from Denver to Houston. The DEA has stayed mum on the gun, declining to confirm the agency's ties to the...

Ever wonder what it looks like when you fire a gun underwater? Firearm enthusiast Andrew Tuohy of VuurwapenBlog recently decided to find out. Taking his .40 Glock 22 into his swimming pool, he captured some high speed videos of himself firing a round using an ordinary Pentax Optio WG-2 waterproof compact camera (which has a 120fps movie recording mode). The photograph above is a still taken from one of the videos.
