Yesterday, I was pretty excited about today’s scheduled House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing, “EPA Priorities and Practices,” at which the former EPA regional administrator Al Armendariz was supposed to appear to explain his unique philosophy of enforcement. But then, all of my hopes were dashed — dashed! — when Energy & Commerce made this announcement late last night: WASHINGTON, DC – With less than 24 hours until he was scheduled to testify in front of the Energy and Power Subcommittee, former Regional Administrator for EPA Region 6 Al Armendariz has notified the committee that he will not appear at...

Republicans on Tuesday boycotted a Democratic-led subcommittee hearing on Arizona’s controversial immigration bill. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas), the ranking member of the subcommittee, called the hearing “election-year theater.” He said it would do nothing to further attempts at reforming the country’s immigration system. “This is not an attempt at having a sincere hearing on the merits," Cornyn said in a statement. "Unfortunately, the Democrat majority seems to have embraced President Obama's ‘mañana’ approach to immigration reform.” Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) also said the hearing was “strictly political theater” aimed at garnering publicity and trying to influence Wednesday’s oral arguments before...

I like shooting skeet, 5-stand, and sporting clays. Unfortunately, my hearing is deteriorating, especially in my left ear. I can now barely hear women and small children. My wife is encouraging me to get hearing aids so I can better understand her instructions. I am now using foam inserts and cheap noise canceling headphones when I shoot. I wonder if shooting is going to make my hearing even worse. I would hate to give it up. If anybody has any experience on the topic, I would like to 'hear' about it.

Politics January 25, 2012 'I'm The Chairman!' Waxman Gets Chewed Out During Keystone Hearing Fire it up 80 Share “Are you calling the Koch brothers during the recess?” Angered by Waxman’s political posturing, Whitfield took a shot at the Obama Administration and Solyndra. “If you want to talk about that, let’s talk about the millions of dollars the Obama administration gave companies like Solyndra and people like George Kaiser and other campaign bundlers,” Whitfield fumed. “Why are you interrupting members and then you take unlimited time for yourself?” Waxman responded. “I’m the chairman! And I’m telling you right now we’re...

White House to testify at hearing on ‘home-grown’ militantsSaturday 3rd December 2011 | Muharram 7, 1433 WASHINGTON: The Obama administration has signaled it will cooperate with a controversial congressional inquiry into alleged threats posed by “home-grown” Islamic militants that critics have branded a “witch hunt.” The House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security said on its website that the White House would supply two official witnesses for the December 7 hearing on “The threat to military communities inside the United States.” The committee, chaired by Republican Representative Peter King, had led controversial hearings earlier this year on alleged domestic Islamic...

Obama Ballot Challenge Director Pamela Barnett briefly spoke with Dr. Orly Taitz, Esq. after Taitz's hearing to decide whether or not the court will let her see any original records that may be on file in Hawaii for Barack Obama. Eligibility activist Miki Booth and some Tea Party supporter were able to attend the hearing. In short, the judge continued the hearing because a clerk of the court refused a Fedex package from Orly Taitz to the court and did not file other documents with the docket that were submitted. Essentially there is illegal sabotage being committed by clerks and...

One should always understand that we are all different so that it is impossible to suggest a single form of treatment that will work in every case and for every person. However, there is a very simple technique that has often shown to be effective in many cases of tinnitus (ringing in the ears.) Any person who is afflicted by this very unpleasant condition would do well to at least give this simple technique a try. To perform this technique, put the palms of your hands over your ears. The fingers are on the back of the head. The middle...

It’s a sound proposal, but you might not know that listening to some of the arguments against it. They may sound plausible, but they don’t stand up to scrutiny. WE NEED A HOUSING PLAN, NOT MORE FISCAL STIMULUS The premise of this argument is probably true: recent evidence suggests that high debt is holding back consumer demand. Recent research shows that government spending on infrastructure or other investments raises demand even in an economy beset by over-indebted consumers. THE COST PER JOB IS TOO HIGH Martin Feldstein, the Harvard economist...each job produced by the plan would cost about $200,000. This...

GOP Rep. Steve King (R-IA) - a stalwart opponent of illegal alien amnesty, came out with a strong response to Barack Obama's "Uncle Omar" - the 20-year fugitive from justice busted for DUI in Massachussetts 2 weeks ago, who was then summarily released by ICE a few days ago. This follows the outrage of Obama's Aunt Zeituni mooching off welfare and public housing for years in Boston, before being outed - and then getting asylum in an unprecedented closed immigration hearing. As Judiciary Chariman Lamar Smith said Friday, "It appears there is a double standard — one for President Obama’s...

Neuroscientists at the University of California, Berkeley, are offering hope to the 10 percent of the population who suffer from tinnitus – a constant, often high-pitched ringing or buzzing in the ears that can be annoying and even maddening, and has no cure. Their new findings, published online last week in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, suggest several new approaches to treatment, including retraining the brain, and new avenues for developing drugs to suppress the ringing. "This work is the most clearheaded documentation to this point of what's actually happening in the brain's cortex in ways...

It is estimated that only 20 percent of people who could benefit from hearing instruments seek help, many often waiting up to ten years from the time they could benefit from hearing amplification. Among those who try hearing instruments for the first time, acceptance can be slow and rejection rates high. Now, a new advanced technology hearing device from Oticon, Inc. shows the potential to deliver immediate benefits and motivate immediate acceptance by people new to hearing amplification. Results of a multi-center international study with first-time users conducted by researchers at Towson University in Baltimore, MD and Horzentrum in Oldenburg,...

Melbourne researchers have invented a small, smart, self-managed hearing aid that outperforms most conventional hearing aids for less than half the price. It uses technology first developed for Australia’s bionic ear, and is so simple to set up that most users can buy one over the internet and fit it themselves. That brings the cost down to between $1,000 and $1500, or less than $3000 (Aus) for a pair. The user can then easily fine-tune it and even switch the settings to suit the home, work, or the pub. The new technology was launched in Melbourne today by the inventor...
