A group of friends were fishing off Cape May, New Jersey, this weekend when a Great White Shark started circling their 35-foot boat, eventually lunging forward to rip a basket of fish right off the side. Rather than lose their minds with horror at the sight of a chomping, many-toothed sea creature — which, at 16 feet long, was nearly half the size of their ride — some of the humans leaned over the water for a better look. "Come back," sighed Steven Clark, the foolhardy dude who shot the video below. "Steven, don't, don't, don't — what are you...

Sada newspaper said the unnamed Saudi managed to identify his brother’s Yemeni killer and locate his whereabouts in Qatar, where he had got the citizenship. “He travelled to Qatar after getting information on where his brother’s killer lives…he went straight to that man and killed him,” the paper said. A co-worker of mine is preparing himself for a trip to Tokyo to meet his fiance's parents. He is now studying the rudiments of their language. For most westerners Japanese is not a simple language to learn, unless you are using it on a regular basis. My friend has learned there are many ways to say Thanks in Japanese. You have to remember that this is a society that still gives great focus on the status of an individual, and that individual's relationship to or with the person speaking. Most times, the worst one can do is to speak in...

Welcome to the FR weekly Thread Thread. With a thank you to meowmeow for the suggestion on the catchy name. As I mentioned to some, I'm really a pre-novice seamstress. I'm even hesitant to use the word seamstress. But, with the little guy growing out of clothes SO quickly I figured I'd put some effort into making some of his play clothes. And with 2 years of being a stay at home mom, after 15 years as a professional civil engineer, my brain is in need of some exercise. So I thought I'd start out by posting a couple of...

Few onlookers would mistake a Maserati for a Muni -- and, for those experiencing difficulty making the distinction, here's a primer. When a hulking Muni bus parks itself over a mechanics' pit, much-needed maintenance ensues. When a minuscule Maserati attempts to do the same, it finds itself in need of maintenance of a different sort. SF Weekly obtained the above photo of the late May mishap. Bus operators on the scene at the Potrero Muni yard joke that the Maserati driver must have been hit with a sudden and overwhelming desire to work for Muni. That's one explanation for abruptly...

I've been dabbling in sewing off and on (mostly off) for a number of years. Mostly what I would call simple things like panel curtains, dog beds, etc. With a 2 year old outgrowing clothes so quickly I thought I might try my hand at making some simple items for him. We have weekly gardening threads and semi-weekly recipe threads. I was wondering if anyone might be interested in a weekly (or semi-weekly) sewing thread?

I'll try to make this as short as possible, because I never know when a page is going to load. As you may recall, I started having connection issues about three and a half months ago. After eliminating every other issue I wound up getting another (rebuilt) computer. Late last month the same issue began showing up so I returned the computer to the repair shop at which I bought it. They hooked it up to their connection and announced that there was nothing wrong with it. As recently as last Sunday this thing was working like a top. Now...
