So it looks like the anti-war Marine is running for NM's 3rd congressional district.

Richard Strandlof said he survived the 9/11 attacks on the Pentagon. He said he survived again when a roadside bomb went off in Iraq killing four fellow Marines. He'd point to his head and tell people he had a metal plate, collateral damage from the explosion.Crowds ate up his story. He canvassed Colorado appearing at the sides of politicians. Inspiring and seemingly authentic, he spoke on behalf of veterans at the state Capitol....

Greatest VIDEO EVEH. You’ll notice one of the Lieutenant Colonel’s supporters has a banner across his chest that says “Three Tours - Iraq” - that man is an escaped mental patient and, until yesterday, a powerhouse in the IVAW and Vote Vets, yet he’s never served a day in the Marines, as he has claimed:

A series of Iraq war protests culminated with the arrest of 15 people on disorderly conduct charges at the gates of Hofstra University. Most of those arrested were from out of state and from New York City, police said Thursday morning. The largest crowd, about 350 people, carrying signs and shouting slogans, gathered outside the gates at 5:30 p.m. and remained for hours. Smaller groups gathered earlier on campus, in downtown Hempstead and at the Hempstead train station. About 7:30 p.m. a scrum broke out between protesters and mounted police outside the gates when police refused to allow anti-war veterans...

Sen. John McCain gets a D when it comes to veterans issues, according to a new congressional report card released Tuesday by Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America. Sen. Barack Obama fares better - he earned a B. The New York-based national veterans advocacy group graded every member of Congress on how he or she voted on major issues affecting 1.7 million vets from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (May 31) - An Iraq war veteran could lose his honorable discharge status after being photographed wearing fatigues at an anti-war protest. Marine Cpl. Adam Kokesh and other veterans marked the fourth anniversary of the war in Iraq in April by wearing their uniforms - with military insignia removed - and roaming around the nation's capital on a mock patrol. After Kokesh was identified in a photo cutline [sic] in The Washington Post, a superior officer sent him a letter saying he might have violated a rule prohibiting troops from wearing uniforms without authorization. Kokesh, a member...

A certain amount of celebrity glow has long been a part of both political parties’ gatherings. But thanks in part to the youthful charisma of Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive nominee, the Democratic convention, which begins on Monday in Denver, is shaping up as an unlikely hot spot for the music world, with multiplatinum rappers, indie-rock scenesters, D.J.’s and Jennifer Lopez arriving by the van- and private planeload to perform, rally or schmooze with the political elite. “It’s the Sundance Film Festival for politicos,” said Laura Dawn, the cultural director of MoveOn.org, who also happens to sing with Moby... A kick butt response to Philadelphia's Northeast Time's love note to IVAW:The July 24 cover story A battle cry to end the war by staff writer Jon Campisi is a flattering account of the anti-war group Iraq Veterans Against the War, which lacked a great deal of critical information needed for the Northeast Times readers to reach an informed opinion of the group, its origin, efforts and goals. Though Campisi noted that the Iraq Veterans Against the War were formed under the patronage of the Veterans For Peace, unexamined is who are the Veterans For Peace (VFP). The leadership of...

For those who haven’t heard, IVAW will be presenting materials from their Winter Soldier investigation to the Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) next Thursday (May 15). I’ve created another petition asking the CPC to verfiy any info that IVAW brings to them. This petition reads about the same as the petition that was circulated for the Senate Armed Services Committee. The CPC is more of an ad-hoc group than any sort of official committee, but since we’ve been out in front of IVAW on this, we should probably stay there. Please circulate this petition among your mailing lists. I’ll be doing...

An organization calling itself Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) convened a conference in Silver Spring, Maryland, entitled Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan — Eyewitness Accounts of the Occupations, this month. Modeling itself on the 1971 Winter Soldier Investigation (WSI), which provided the text for John Kerry’s infamous testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee later that year, the event claimed to “feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in [the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan], giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.†But in the immortal words of Yogi...

Tonight on The Front Line, we’ll be talking to “Thus Spake Ortner,” a well-known military blogger from The Sniper who, together with Jonn from This Ain’t Hell, live-blogged the Winter Soldier II hearings last week. TSO will be on to tell us all about how much of a circus it really was. So much for freedom of speech. Tune in tonight at 9 pm EST, and feel free to call the show and weigh in with your opinion at 646-915-9926 or 866-697-8111 (the toll free number)!

DC Moonbat Convergence March 19th, 2008 Another day, another protest. Today is ANSWER’s “Day of Action”. Since the Iraq War started five years ago today, all of the organizations that have sprung up to cash in on the war decided to have an eight-ring circus in downtown Washington DC, because as one IVAW member told me, the war is about money - apparently for the moonbats, too. My coverage was abruptly ended when I was ID’d as “one of those Milblog guys at Winter Soldier”, so excuse me for not getting all I should have.I was there bright and early...

"The most dramatic testimony out of the IVAW's Winter Soldier II hearings is that American troops are using bullets in Iraq!" Col. Harry Riley, US Army, Retired, at Eagles Muster, Washington, D.C., May 15, 2008. There is a saying that sunlight is the strongest disinfectant. That was certainly the case this past weekend in the Washington, D.C., area when American veterans and troop supporters gathered to counter the Iraq Veterans Against the War's ill-conceived Winter Soldier II "hearings" at the National Labor College in Silver Springs, Maryland. The original Winter Soldier "investigation" was a farce put together by John Kerry's...

The Iraq Veterans Against the War held their Winter Soldier II event this weekend at the National Labor College. The implied intent of this event was to give testimony to a myriad of claimed attrocites committed by the US military in Iraq. Not surprisingly, it fell far short of its intent. For lefties expecting proof of the dishonor and heinous behavior of the US military, surely Monday morning recaps will bring little more than disappointment and frustration. For those who feared the smearing of our military a la John Kerry and the original Winter Soldiers, solace can be found.

Earlier, describing “Winter Soldier II Off To A Lying Start,” I concluded by noting that “Bloggers today see the Associated Press and Washington Post in the audience. Let’s see whether the American press has learned anything since 1971.” Apparently not. Unless some editor culled out all critical thought, there’s no excuse for the Washington Post’s coverage today. The bald assertions by Iraq Veterans Against the War of atrocities are parroted, without scrutiny.

Members of the radical group Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) are busy preparing to host a new “war crimes” conference next month in Washington. The event, billed as Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan, takes its title from the IVAW’s namesake and mentor, the Vietnam Veterans Against the War (VVAW). However, information has now come to light that profoundly undermines the VVAW’s original atrocity claims.

Hot Air TV: Sen. John Kerry confronted about Winter Soldier II By Michelle Malkin • March 12, 2008 11:12 PM Grab the popcorn. We’ve got another joint YAF/Hot Air TV production for you, just in time for the anti-war confab known as “Winter Soldier II” that kicks off in Washington, D.C. tomorrow and runs through Sunday. YAF’s Jason Mattera, our intrepid special correspondent who cornered Jack Murtha in September, is back in the halls of Congress. This week, Jason caught up with the original Winter Soldier, Sen. John Kerry, and confronted him about his unsubstantiated, troop-smearing testimony. Jason also tried...

Washington, D.C., March 4, 2008 – A national coalition of pro-troop and veteran organizations is gathering in the Washington area next week to oppose a planned reenactment of Sen. John Kerry’s infamous “Winter Solider” anti-Vietnam War event that, like its predecessor, will feature “testimony” alleging atrocities committed by American troops this time in Afghanistan and Iraq. Eagles Up www.eaglesup.us and other organizations are taking aim at Winter Soldier II, patterned after a similar event staged by Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry’s Vietnam Veterans Against the War in 1971. Although most of the “veterans” who “testified” in Kerry’s event a generation ago...

This week in Silver Springs, Maryland about 100 members of the Iraq Veterans Against the War, discharged veterans opposed to the Global War on Terror, will spend three days publicly revealing their knowledge of American war crimes at an event dubbed “Winter Soldier II.” In addition to media attention they hope to generate, the veterans may find themselves getting attention from federal prosecutors armed with a relatively new law that can send them to the penitentiary, knowledgeable lawyers say. As the name suggests, Winter Soldier II is not the first time disaffected veterans have protested the war they fought in....

The post below is from Denis Keohane. Denis Keohane is a typical veteran, after graduating high school he enlisted and served in ARADCOM (Army Air Defense Command). Returning quietly to civilian life, Keohane works as a technical writer in the aerospace industry (and a patented inventer, Denis reminds me). Keohane is married, with 5 children. His son's service in Army Special Forces, 1st Group, brings the importance of success in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the morale of his son and his comrades in arms, home to Denis and his family. Keohane started a blog, Obiter Dictum, that has paid much...

Some of them will be okay. They will live with the secrets. They can dissociate from what happened in combat because it was part of the job. It was what they signed up for. They will keep the secrets out of duty – the silence is part of a code, and they honour that code above all else. But for others, the secrets they keep are like a poison, slowly releasing toxins of shame and remorse. Who can they tell anyway? They talk to each other – other veterans who have seen what they’ve seen, done what they’ve done, and...

In November 2006, Jason Wayne Washburn was a member of the 3/1 Marines Weapons Company in Haditha. Today he is a member of Iraq Veterans Against the War. Washburn wasn't in Haditha the morning of November 19th, and didn’t see what happened. But is coming to Washington to testify about it anyway. He will be part of Winter Soldier II on March 13-16. As Washburn says on his IVAW profile page, “it was a squad in my unit that went on a rampage after they were hit with an I.E.D. and ended up killing around 26 civilians.” How does Washburn...

Last Monday morning (Feb 25) Scott Swett’s timely article “Newly Discovered Army Reports Discredit ‘Winter Soldier’ Claims†on the discovery of the summary files of the Army CID Investigations of VVAW War Crimes Allegations from the 1971 Winter Soldier Investigation was published at FrontPageMag.com. By late that evening, at the suggestion of a friend, I had gotten the on-line petition entitled “Appeal to the Senate Armed Service Committee†up, and it has been there for less than two full days. Many of the hundreds of signatories have made comments. Many of those show how truly appalled people are that the...

All proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit Iraq Veterans Against the War. "Body of War" focuses on Tomas Young, an Army soldier paralyzed upon arriving in Iraq. It will open on March 13 in Austin, Texas, and expand nationally in subsequent months. Talk show veteran Phil Donahue directed...

To The Honorable Members of the Senate Armed Services Committee During the Democratic Debate between Senators Clinton and Obama televised on the evening of February 21st, Senator Obama spoke of information passed on to him by an officer in the United States Army about our forces in Afghanistan suffering from a shortage of equipment and weapons. Senator Warner wrote: "...I, and I believe other members of SASC, have a responsibility to establish...

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 29 (OneWorld) - U.S. war veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan have announced they're planning to descend on Washington, DC this March to testify about war crimes they committed or personally witnessed in Iraq. "The war in Iraq is not covered to its potential because of how dangerous it is for reporters to cover it," said Liam Madden, a former Marine and member of the group Iraq Veterans Against the War. "That's left a lot of misconceptions in the minds of the American public about what the true nature of military occupation looks like." Iraq Veterans Against the...

As I said at the GOE rally, the Iraq Veterans Against The War are out to smear this generation of military as "babykillers" the way their mentors the Vietnam Veterans Against the War did during the Vietnam era. But I never expected that they'd give away their intent by calling it "Winter Soldier" just like their mentors. Winter Soldier was a series of 109 interviews that were turned into a book and film. According to B.G. Burkett's investigation of Winter Soldier in his book Stolen Valor, many were phony soldiers that never served, others like VVAW leader Al Hubbard served...

Man who lied about actions in Iraq admits faking forms By David Bowermaster Seattle Times staff reporter Jesse MacBeth stoked opposition to the Iraq war in 2006 when he spoke out about atrocities he committed as a U.S. Army Ranger serving as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. MacBeth, 23, of Tacoma, claimed to have killed more than 200 people, many at close range, some as they prayed in a mosque. He spoke at an anti-war rally in Tacoma and appeared in a 20-minute anti-war video that circulated widely on the Internet.

A military panel recommended that an Iraq war veteran who wore his uniform during an anti-war protest should lose his honorable discharge status, brushing away his claims that he was exercising his right to free speech. Marine Cpl. Norfolk-based sailor uses Web to channel opposition to war By LOUIS HANSEN, The Virginian-Pilot © November 5, 2006 NORFOLK - Jonathan Hutto graduated from Howard University with a degree in political science and a résumé of social activism. This is Marc Cooper reporting for Radio Nation. One of the more interesting groups that emerged in the protests around last week's Republican National Convention was the "Iraq Veterans Against the War". This is now just a small group, maybe 35 or 40 people, being helped and formed indeed by the "Vietnam Veterans Against the War", the group formed in the 1960's that John Kerry had a hand in. But these mostly young men, recently returned from Iraq, are having quite an impact on people's conscience with the stories that they tell.During the Republican Convention at one of the auxillery events,...

WASHINGTON – If John Kerry is elected president and doesn't immediately pull U.S. troops out of Iraq, he could be faced with an unusual situation – anti-war protests by a group modeled after the one he led during the Vietnam War. A new organization, Iraq Veterans Against the War, is just that – an organization inspired by Kerry's own Vietnam Veterans Against the War legacy.
