GE has new 90 watt Watt-Miser bulbs on sale now due to the 100 watt incandescent bulb ban. You can find them at Wal-Mart. They are rated at 1450 lumens. But if you don't mind paying more, GE also has 72-watt halogen bulbs (rated as "100-watt equivalent") which put out 1490 lumens, so with those you get slightly better brightness with less energy being used. UNDATED (NBC) - As we say goodbye to 2012, we're also saying goodbye to a fixture in America's lighting fixtures: The 75-watt incandescent light bulb. Scientists at the Wake Forest University have created a new type of light bulb that promises to be just as efficient as LED equivalents, but without any of the drawbacks. The new field-induced polymer electroluminescent bulbs — FIPEL for short — produce light when an electric current is passed through the nano-engineered plastic layers. After months in development, Philips is finally ready to sell LED light bulbs that last 20 years. Could be quite a game-changer — after all, if you didn't have to change a light bulb between now and when your unborn child graduates from high school, just think of all the precious minutes you could spend on other tasks. A trip to Home Depot this weekend revealed the shocking news that while some incandescent (Edison) bulbs are still available, our choice of bulbs has come down to: awful compact fluorescent bulbs that are hazardous to the environment and cost more; halogen bulbs, which cost many times the price of a regular bulb; and, the new and improved $50 LED bulb.
