The Russian and Syrian governments announced that they are moving on to the next stage in reconstructing the ancient temple of the pagan god Ba’al in Palmyra. If successful, the project will necessarily mark the third incarnation of the Roman Victory Arch of Palmyra which an ancient Jewish source states must fall and be rebuilt three times before the arrival of the Messiah. On Wednesday, the Syrian Trust for Development, Directorate-General for Antiquities and Museums and the Institute for the History of Material Culture, Russian Academy of Sciences signed an agreement to start the second phase of the project for...

A $45,000-a-year school in Los Angeles is locked in a struggle with parents as administrators push for a more progressive curriculum that excludes classic modern American literature like To Kill a Mockingbird and the Lord of the Flies. Parents, faculty, staff and alums of Brentwood School began clashing over the curriculum after the school participated in #BlackoutTuesday, a social media campaign to stand against racism, just days after George Floyd died under the knee of a white Minneapolis cop last year. According to the Los Angeles Magazine, under a #BlackoutTuesday post that featured a black box, some alums criticized the...

Let’s begin with the understanding that there is no “hate speech” exception to the First Amendment. That has been settled law since the Founders first signed the Constitution of the United States in 1787. Yet, on college campuses all across the United States, the First Amendment rights of commencement speakers have been repeatedly violated by those who think they have a First Amendment right to forcefully silence any speech they don’t like.To demonstrate the absurdity of this response, Wall Street Journal columnist Kimberley Strassel cites her five-year-old daughter’s definition of the First Amendment: “Free speech is that you can say...

SEATTLE, WA--Well, this can't be good: infighting has begun to break out in Seattle's utopian paradise of free stuff and community gardening and love and peace as CHAZ leaders can't agree on who gets to hold the conch shell. One warlord had suggested passing around a conch shell to determine who would be the leader of the group. The other warlords all agreed. This uneasy truce only lasted for about 12 seconds, however, as they began to bicker over who got to hold the conch shell first. One of the warlords was wearing glasses and suggested they attempt to create...

Hollywood is remaking Lord of the Flies, except this time ... wait for it ... the island is full of girls. The movie will be written and directed by two men, Scott McGehee and David Siegel, most recently known for the critically acclaimed What Maisie Knew. Deadline reported the news Wednesday. “We want to do a very faithful but contemporized adaptation of the book, but our idea was to do it with all girls rather than boys,” Siegel told Deadline. William Golding's classic book was adapted for the screen in 1963 and 1990.

There is to be a new Lord of The Flies film with a twist - all the people stranded on the island will be female. The adaptation of William Golding’s 1954 novel has faced backlash on social media as critics have accused it of "missing the point".

The William Golding novel is being adapted once again, this time by a male writing-directing duo. Warner Bros. is planning a gender-bent adaptation of the iconic William Golding novel Lord of the Flies. Scott McGehee and David Siegel will write and direct the new take on the story, which follows a group of young boarding school students that end up stranded on an island and devolve into pre-pubescent savages over the course of the novel. Harry Hook directed a 1990 version of the story, while a 1963 feature was helmed by Peter Brook.

JERUSALEM — Prophesy sites are having a field day with President Obama getting worldwide attention for sparring with a fly yesterday. News media reports document how Obama has somewhat of a larger history of attracting flies during multiple recorded interviews and speeches. Already, religious and other sites are using the headlines to point out that a biblical reference for Satan, the Semitic deity Beelzebub, literally translates from Hebrew into “lord of the flies.” As Obama yesterday nominated two new members of his second administration it was a swarming fly that stole the show. “This guy is bothering me here,” said...

Board members of California's Oakland Unified School District unanimously voted on Wednesday to cease suspending students for what they call "willful defiance." Those behaviors can include swearing/yelling at teachers, refusing direct orders, texting, and storming out of class, to name a few. The reason? Concern that too many black students are being suspended for willful defiance. One sophomore student, Dan'enicole Williams, told the San Francisco Gate, "They never take time out, if someone is sleeping in class, to ask what’s wrong. They may be acting that way because they didn’t eat the night before.” "We’re getting pushed out of schools,”...

A shocking case of a family of ~40 in rural Australia, the “Colts” (it’s a pseudonym), which has engaged in several generations of first degree incest has surfaced. You can read the summary in the press. But the Australian government has released a report on the case. I haven’t read most of it because the snippets I have stumbled upon are very disturbing. But, I was curious as to the characterization of the 12 children who were removed by social services. In particular, only one, Cindy, had parents who were unrelated. Note how different she is: Cindy Colt (5), Rhonda...

Obama laments entrenched power at Ohio State commencement By REID J. EPSTEIN | 5/5/13 1:24 PM EDT President Barack Obama is the most powerful man in the world, but he still laments that there is so much still out of his control. Obama told Ohio State University graduates Sunday that it will be their responsibility to make the world a better place, because forces aligned against them still hold substantial power. The dour commencement address touched on Obama’s familiar we’re-all-together theme and included shots at his regular bogeymen: Wall Street, an obstinate Congress and, of course, the press. “As you’ve...
