  • Adjustable gas plug: M1 Garand

I'm looking for feedback regarding adjustable gas plugs for an M1 Garand. M2 Ball and equivalents, like most other ammo, isn't all that easy to come by but I've been able to find plenty of 150gr 30-06 though it's generally at higher pressures than M2. My understanding is that an adjustable gas plug will allow me to dial in adjustments for modern, higher pressure ammo, heavier bullet weights, etc. If anyone has experience with, and recommendations regarding, these plugs I'd be happy to hear them.

Image: Wikimedia CommonsThe “M1 Carbine” was instead the first carbine to be developed and thus while it does have similarities, these are in fact different weapons. Here's What You Need to Remember: The confusion between the two weapons isn’t helped by the fact that both are designated as firing “.30 caliber.”Despite its name and the fact that its basic appearance is similar to the M1 Garand, the M1 Carbine—officially the United States Carbine, Caliber .30, M1—wasn’t really a carbine version of the main battle rifle. The confusion lies in the fact that both were designated “M1” but that simply dates back...

A Vermont gun importer is blaming the White House for its laying off of 41 workers because the government blocked its plan to bring nearly $30 million worth of antique, American-made military rifles home from South Korea... Century International Arms to re-import the World War II-era M1 Garand rifles .. This importation was denied despite our explaining that the denial would harm the company and pointing out that there is no rational, gun-control reason to block the importation of these historic, 70-year-old firearms ... the South Korean government had been given preliminary approval for the deal last year and the...

Garand collectors have long known about these, as stored and recorded by Springfield Armory, but as far as we know, nobody’s found one yet. In 1959, Armory officials told the local newspaper that a few cans recently arrived (of which, more later) were the last survivors of the cans the Armory filled in 1947 and 1948 — apart from a few in the collection of the Armory’s museum. Right after World War II, the Armed Forces went from something like 12 million men, mostly armed with M1 Garands, to a tiny fraction of the size. Logistical problem: trainloads of surplus...

"The story of the first semi-automatic rifle ever widely-adopted as a standard military arm began after the start of the First World War, when the inventor John C. Garand (Canadian, then living in USA) began to develop a semi-automatic (or self-loading) rifles. He worked at the government-owned Springfield armory and during the 1920s and early 1930 developed a number of designs."

Without the proof, or even data that former military rifles were used in crimes or gun violence, the White House has decided today, through executive order, to ban the re-importation of hundreds of thousands of surplus rifles that were made here in the United States. Announced this morning at a press conference, Vice President Joe Biden said that they would halt the importation of american GI service rifles from the Korean War era. This move is in line with the recent executive orders issues in an effort to reduce gun violence. But where this falls off the tracks is that...

For more than thirty years the Ordnance Department endeavored to obtain a satisfactory semi-automatic or self-loading rifle to replace the bolt action Springfield. These efforts were not confined to the development within the Department. Invitations were extended periodically to gun designers in this country and abroad to submit weapons for test, and tests were made of those received which showed any promise of meeting the specifications prescribed. During this period of thirty odd years many rifles were received and tested. Mechanisms embodying every known principle of operation were represented in the many types submitted. After many tests of various calibers,...

Interesting take on the recent importation ban for "our protection". ----------------------- "One now arrives to the original article and the event that spurred this rambling conversation. The Washington Times published an editorial September 3rd entitled Government is blocking sale of historic weapons. Actually the title was more along the lines of “Obama’s Backdoor Gun Ban” which is what caused my original “gut clench”-almost toss to the spam file. Realistically there is no way 8 weeks before the Midterm election that the titular head of the Democratic Party is going to do any such controversial thing. Right now it is his...

Just picked up a 1943 M1 Garand. What I'd like to know is...EVERYTHING about the Garand. 1. I need to know where to get ball ammo to feed it (it's a bit scarce, as far as I can tell); 2. I'd like to know the best data sheet/book on the Garand (breakdown, cleaning, greasing, etc.); 3. The best info I can get on making the weapon as accurate as possible (peep sights on the current configuration); 4. Where I'm most likely to pick up the best (and best valued!) accessories for it (slings, parts, etc). I know...I should Google all...

I apologize if this has been posted (other than the one time I've used it as a reply) already. Although the site I found it on is a leftist POS place, this poster kicks ass. I think that the leftists assume this poster is a slam on Rummy, when in fact it is patriotic - just shows how twisted their thinking is!
