Contrary to reports earlier in the day, President Barack Obama is not offering a "new" proposal to avert the year-end fiscal cliff during a meeting at the White House today. Rather, Obama is reiterating previous positions on income-tax rates and other components of the cliff, Reuters reports. He will ask Congressional leaders at the meeting for a concrete counterproposal. If there is none, he will ask for an up-or-down vote on his plan in Congress.
